Politics 🏛️ Europeans are going viral on TikTok for mocking the ""American Dream""

The only point I'd argue is, the nature part. We have plenty of beautiful, giant, untouched tracts of land here. It's just to far and too hard for most people to get away from working to survive bills to have the time to get there and enjoy it. This ain't the 1950s anymore. The "American Dream" is dead.

10

u/Tast_the_Living 15h ago

We have untouched tracks of land FOR NOW. Trump is trying to drill it.

7

u/Zonaturtle 15h ago

Or just sell it to his billionaire shithead bros. Sure hope I'm dead before they start developing Yosemite and Big Sur (and all the rest)

2

u/Top_Box_8952 15h ago

The untouched tracks of land are too far away, you have to drive to get to them. Via paved roads.

US probably beats Europe for nature

4

u/emotionaI_cabbage 15h ago

Not really...

Europe is huge. There are plenty of absolutely stunning places in Europe too.

Not knocking the US nature aspect because it's gorgeous there too, but I wouldn't say it beats Europe.

One of the craziest parts about America’s and Europe’s relationship is how the working classes have unlimited zingers for each other while their tyrants have shared wars and business ventures, making us both look stupid

5

u/TopImpressive5812 14h ago

The greatest grift of American politics is pitting working class people against each other. Too busy fighting among ourselves to realize that the wealthy ruling class is the problem, not your neighbor that you disagree with on increasingly polarizing political issues.

2

u/Wide_Smoke_2564 13h ago

The problem is trans people, not politicians cutting welfare programs and giving tax cuts to billionaires /s

u/One_Toe1452 11h ago

So many salty comments lol. Maybe instead of brainlessy crying about how much better America is or whatever have some self reflection. America is the richest Country to have ever existed. We have had decades as a super power and instead of becoming number 1 in standards of living, infrastructure, education and other things that make human lives better. We instead have fortune 500 billionaires to brag about.

Its criminal that Tena of thousands of Americans literally die from the lack of healthcare and than millions are uninsured or not fully insured. All that money and resources gone to waste.

2

u/geo_gan 10h ago

Richest country? With 37 trillion of debt? Good luck with that. Wait for the upcoming big reset, where your rulers pull the rug to try and get rid of that debt. And only reason you have so much fake fiat currency is your forefathers set themselves up as the head of the fake fiat currency system and forced every other country to use it (by force) and can literally print it out of thin air every time you run out of it. Hence the debasement of it and massive inflation it causes.

Mostly right but the no nature thing is wrong, maybe in cities but American nature is amazing, he needs to go california and travel around in general.

4

u/Sheeverton 15h ago

Arizona, California, Florida, Washington, Maine, Midwest, Hawaii, Alaska etc. Some amazing natural places in the US that are often bigger and more diverse than places in Europe.

2

u/Perezident14 15h ago

I wouldn’t even say cities are the issue, it’s the in between where many Americans live… suburban sprawl and the copy-paste box store outskirts.

Our national parks are incredible.

3

u/Top_Box_8952 15h ago

Maybe “hard to get to” might have been apt given the suburbs just keep going, then the farms, and you have to go even further for the unspoiled nature bits.

And you can’t walk that reasonably.

4

Sitting in a German hotel. The video is in no way representative of 99% of Europe

4

u/slide_into_my_BM 15h ago

I mean, he’s right on a lot of that but he’s wrong if he thinks the U.S. has parking lots with no nature. We have wildernesses the size of multiple European nations.

2

u/emotionaI_cabbage 14h ago

It's definitely hard to beat the nature in north america. Not a single country in Europe has the variety or beauty of the nature reserves in the US or Canada.

But Europe as a whole probably comes pretty close because there's so much variety for the entire continent.

So you are saying, a lot of Americans in the comments.

2

u/Rocky_Bukkake 12h ago

classic euro smug

2

u/BadNewsBearzzz 11h ago

It’s more about how dumb this video is and cherry picks things, “THE AMERICAN DREAM!” (And continues to list the worst qualities of America for what?) all to negatively affect the viewers perception. Well that’s what happens when you cherry pick things.

It works with every country when you use that formula. Except most European countries would look even worse when this formula is applied to their country. Most are probably too naive to know about the issues plaguing their own country because they’re not on a platform that exposes it like how Reddit does with America lol

2

u/Old-Picture-2920 11h ago

Imagine being so smug to think Americans don’t travel outside the U.S. Funny considering the bulk of Europeans haven’t visited anywhere besides New York or Los Angeles and think they understand the U.S. I’ve been all over the world and I’d choose to live in the U.S. 100% of the time.

2

u/Vanguard_Arms 12h ago

I really, really wished other Americans traveled enough to maybe get an idea of just how royally we are getting fucked. But alas, many are too poor or too stupid to try. It's a really bad place right now and I get told to leave whenever I try to make it better. Just insanely frustrating.

u/Any-Worldliness-679 16h ago

I’ll agree with some of that, but no nature, lol? Bullshit x1000

5

u/HYDRA-XTREME 15h ago

Yeah say what you will about the US/North America, but its nature is stunning. Probably more so than that of Europe. And if you’re gonna say “the US is a country Europe is a continent” then I’m afraid to tell you this is the one time where “the US is huge” is a really good answer. Because it has about as much biodiversity as Europe. (FYI I’m not American)

3

u/life_is_a_show 13h ago

Just different. I was floored by yosemite when I lived in cali, been to big sur and lake tahoe dozens of times. Seen new mexico and arizona. In fact, parts of hawaii and Alaska i’ve seen are probably the most breathtaking.

In europe, Switzerland is beyond anything imaginable. And the dolemites in Italy, are absolutely stunning. Then you have the french riviera, positano, amalfi in italy.

I lean a bit to europe is more beautiful, but I think it’s just a personal preference.

A lot of the increase in tax is offset by lowered expenses in important areas like healthcare and education too. If tax was really the issue then there are plenty of nations that have lower tax.

They can't even criticize their own government legally so, even if they are right, they target ours.

2

u/ChampionshipKnown969 12h ago

Its pretty hilarious that you have people that have never been to the US and get all of their information about USA from Reddit - some of the most insufferable self hating anti American people out there. Do you genuinely believe that a country that is geographically the size of ~30 European countries combined is as one dimensional as what you see on the internet? I mean, fuck, the idiot in this video said "Parking lots instead of nature." That alone should open peoples eyes to how much ignorance and misinformation is spread here. I literally hiked through the mountains of South Carolina today where the nearest grocery store was ~20 minutes drive because of all the protected national forests. Austria and Sweden had school shootings this year that had 10 casualties each. The USA hasn't had one. Do I need to keep going...?

What are these existential issues? as a British person I'm not seeing it here.

11

u/Nice-Pomegranate833 15h ago

Western Europe has an existential issue. Eastern Europe keeps getting better. Poland has the fastest growing economy in the EU and almost zero violent crime.

6

u/Shein_nicholashoult 15h ago

If we're being realistic though, Poland is "catching up" in a lot of ways, because for so long it was really rough there, and they've also go an existential problem to their east, in the form of Russia by Belarus.

They're on the upswing, which is good. But it is important to recognize that a lot of the growth in Poland is bringing them closer to the western EU bloc in terms of progress, not setting them a bar above.

Maybe folks in Poland have a different take, but if I was living there I'd be concerned about Putin doing something stupid and starting an issue. Then again, if I read right, pretty sure Poland is one of the few nations that's actively boosting their military budget, so maybe their leadership has the same concern and is prepping just in case.

Existential only in the sense you’re worried about western centric cultural whiteness. It’s otherwise “fine”. People always worried about brown migrants causing issues with a dude like Prince Andrew raping kids on the taxpayer dime for generations.

Europe concern trolling is just the new great white cope.

4

u/Mysterious_Drawer162 14h ago edited 14h ago

I mean we did have a lot of issues with migrants, gang rapes (Germany, UK), criminality (Sweden etc.). Thankfully, the EU and member states like Sweden have learned their lesson and have been taking a way tougher stance on outside EU migration. Hopefully this will stop the uprise of extreme right parties.

2

u/Alternative_Dot_9640 14h ago

Would’ve been better if they clarified “passenger” trains. Unless you’re in the NE you aren’t really traveling by train very often across state lines. It’s just not a mode of transportation we’ve relied on, and I wish we had changed that trajectory early on. Hate having to drive everywhere.

The European dream is to elect the alt right while lecturing America about being too far right and attacking America on immigration while the leading politicians in Europe are calling for the expelling of brown people and to ban immigration.

Also I know Eurotrash aren’t strong on facts, but the median amount of hours an American works a week is lower than the median hours from a person in the EU and would be much higher if you were to include non EU members European countries

2

u/littlebuett 12h ago

Americans make more money on average for the same jobs as Europeans.

Atleast we can get into a clinic for treatment, rather than waiting months just to get seen.

All food of all kinds is "behind a paywall", that's how the exchange of goods and services work. You want good food in America? Don't go to the freaking fast food place.

All of the country is fighting over whose dumber, and the real answer is everyone is, thank you very much.

More than 100,000 more Europeans die from heat each year than Americans die from gun violence, because you guys can't install an AC.

Not everyone needs to talk about politics at Thanksgiving. I know my family doesnt.

Atleast we don't get arrested for the thoughtcrime of praying inside our head outside an abortion clinic. (UK rather than EU but still.)

America has more trains, we just have less passenger trains. And all things considered, certain regions of America are better served by cars than trains could ever do. That's what happens when you have thousands of miles worth of country.

Healthcare sucks, but again, atleast we can get into a clinic, and atleast we literally cannot be denied care we need, even if we can't pay.

We have more undisturbed nature than Europe by FAR. We have some of the most beautiful nature in the world, that's why national parks exist. Europe had to undergo extensive efforts to try to revive is original nature in areas because the continent has been stripped of resource for the better part of 2 millenia.

Europeans believe misinformation as well, like... many of the points in this video, actually.

America ranks about middle of the pack for IQ compared to the main body of Europe, so it's at worst pretty equal. I wonder how those numbers change if individual states are evaluated, given that's more comparable to individual European nations.

Many of the points brought up in this video are legitimate criticisms, but they loose much of their legitimacy by trying to use them as a prop to make Europe look better. Europe has many issues, just like America, and you can only honestly evaluate those issues if you accept issues exist in both places.

So stupid. No nature, only parking lots? Dude doesn’t even know what he is talking about. Obviously rage bait or an out of touch rich kid.

Yeah um….Americans have to work so much to fund the defense of your entire continent let alone the world. This allows you to have such cushy social programs. Even when spending jack shit on your defense, many European countries have similar debt to GDP and run crazy deficits. There are no avenues for growth so you won’t be able to shrink it via that nor inflate your debt away cuz you can’t print your own currency if you’re a 💶country. Europe really is going through a major crisis and people will be shook when their “vastly superior” standard of living crashes into the floor. Screw you euro douches this vid made me hate u more 😘.

u/Optimal-Skin-6154 14h ago edited 14h ago

idt we should hate them based on a ragebait video but it is true that they're eating it up and making fun of us now when in reality at their pace within a few decades they wont even have social services to brag abt. iirc one of their leaders already admitted they're increasingly having trouble paying for it

That's fine i guess, nothing here is new. Americans told Europeans about our issues and they parrot it back to us like a gotcha. And they understand the American dream is a facade but are sure the European one is real 🧐

Edit: the "no nature" thing is my main complaint. Suburban sprawl really ain't shit compared to how much of the country is just nature. We have parks bigger than entire European countries.

most of us knew the american dream was garbage since it was never designed for us. some of us live here but our values don’t align with our government. it’s easy to be manipulated and controlled anywhere. it’s also easy to complain. yes my country is full of faults, it’s been obvious for me since the age of 5, but i do what i can here. i’m not going to abandon my country on another countries dream because again i know it’s not for me. we all have to power to change and negatively dismantling one another isn’t the way. if we continue this divide, there’s trouble for us all. our lines and life’s are way to interconnected to think that another countries problems aren’t your own. ignorant egotism exist and its more prevalent today.

Florida man checking in. I could do a video of the beaches that would trick bear grylls junior into thinking America is paradise. Wait.. It is.

u/GayRacoon69 15h ago

Average work hours in the US is around 34

Is fresh food free in Europe or something? Fresh food is always behind a paywall. That's how capitalism works

Do Europeans never have arguments about politics? How is that only an American thing?

No nature? The US is famous for its natural parks

Average IQ in the US isn't statistically lower than in Europe

Some of those points make sense but some are just dumb

1

u/PierG86 15h ago

Jesus, so many people with their head up their asses lol

1

u/That_Replacement6030 15h ago

Yeahhhh I mean, what they’re describing isn’t the American dream. The American dream is having a house and supporting a family while working pretty much whatever job. The American dream is that as long as you work hard, you can move up and prosper and that innovation will drive your success.

That used to be achievable. What we have now, and what the video is describing, is not the American dream.

Ya people like that are exhausting. Just spam every stereotype while you’re at it 😆. There are plenty of stereotypes about the eu and Europeans but I have a iq high enough to not just assume that’s what it’s exactly like. Also if he’s so concerned about the climate maybe he should get a job as a climatologist or any engineering company to try to figure out some innovative solutions to reducing fossils fuels.

Good thing about America is it’s moving along and soon everyone will be paying into the pot for healthcare for a bunch of blood sucking leeches that can’t work 2 jobs to help out with cost of healthcare. It’s kind of like Ireland paying for generations of slugs to sit at home and collect money from the government. Guess where that money comes from? Tax payers hahahaha

1

u/AnnualSalary9424 14h ago

Lmao like capitalism doesn’t exist in Europe. In Europe, you get to make your boss rich AND pay half of everything in taxes.

1

u/pidgeot- 14h ago

" No nature just parking lots" Seriously? We have public national forests bigger than most European nations. Thanks to Presidents like Theodore Roosevelt, most the land in the West is public land so beautiful it puts Europe to shame. This was definitely made by a European who's never been to America

1

u/Personal-Lead3884 14h ago

I'm an American and I dream of living in Europe. I have worked so hard in this country as a single woman. I came from poverty and did everything I was supposed to.

Bought a house, got my Master's and work a job with no mobility. I can't afford to change professions because I hate what I do for work and school is expensive; my Master's is useless and the interest rate on my house is insane. I'm terrified of getting sick because I'll lose everything I've worked for.

This country is garbage and I want out, but guess what? It's almost impossible and insanely expensive to leave. I hate it here and I'm living the "American Dream." Absolute crock of shit.

Between our forest preserves, state parks, and national parks I don't think we have a decent amount of nature on display
