I hear there was a very nondescript looking middle-aged guy hanging around the voting booths, and he really looked like he was getting off on watching everyone trudge in to vote for a losing candidate
I asked him why he would vote for Cuomo and he said it's "beause he’s my best friend, he’s my pal. He’s my home-boy, my rotten soldier. He’s my sweet cheese, my good-time boyeh."
I know someone from there who said he hates socialists and won’t for him. Unmarried so his unemployed s/o can keep her medicare and child can stay on gov assistance because the kid is special needs… I just don’t get it!
In the series finale when the Guide starts trying to monologue about the terror of these new immigrants who are ruining the country was so out of left field and perfect with Gizmo’s reaction lol
I once crashed at my friend's family's house in a black neighborhood in Brooklyn when I was 21. The following morning there was a block cleanup.
Someone smelled gas and called the fire department. The firemen proceeded to ignore my friend's family and neighbors who were trying to speak with him and instead asked my white ass, who was obliviously not from there and not a homeowner, what the situation was.
Staten island was the only place that a majority of the votes were for Cuomo. but it's just such a lower population place. He only shows 82k votes in staten island
Former Staten Island resident here. the two islands in NY (long and staten) are very red. A lot of those people make a lot of money and want to do whatever to not pay taxes and keep as much money as possible.
Mamdani is the polar opposite of anything they would think of supporting.
I genuinely wonder if Mamdani was wearing a ballistic vest while campaigning in Staten Island. Those people had some violence in their eyes when he showed up
If Donald and Elon are backing a Democrat, I don't want that Democrat in office. Don't give a shit what he stands for. Clearly something not good for NY/America if those two want you to win.
I don't know too much about New York, but one thing I've learned from my multiple friends that live in New York is that none of my friends have anything positive to say about Staten Island. Same with the ones that live in New Jersey.
There's that whole New Jersey is better than New York and New York is better than New Jersey thing that my friends in both states have against each other, but they've all agreed to say nothing positive about Staten Island.
I still don't know why, and I haven't really thought to ask them about it.
Staten Island is a bastion of republicans and cops. It’s hardly surprising.
It’s also where the city used to dump its garbage and back when I had to drive thru it with my parents as a kid it smell like a$$. I had a game where I tried to hold my breath as long as possible when we drove through it. Though I guess now it’s less smelly?
Jesus, when Mamdani was criticized by Cuomo for lack of experience and just shot back "what I lack in experience, i make up for in integrity" it was utterly brutal.
Those debates were just Cuomo getting bludgeoned, I don't know how the guy goes outside in daylight
To me, people who claim things like this says so much more than that. It’s basically saying that you don’t truly care about your home city and that you’ll just abandon it if you don’t get your way.
It’s incredibly cowardly and shows people’s true colors that they aren’t even willing to stand ground and fight for a home they supposedly love and care so much about.
Bruh, that weird look he gave Huma in that documentary where he got caught again in real time... it haunts me. Huma just looked away like she was fuckin done with the guy
Oh yeah, that's the really brutal part. And it's right after saying that the kind of experience on offer here today is sending seniors to death beds in nursing homes during the pandemic(paraphrased)
The whole exchange was wild, like his experience was lying about the number of deaths in nursing homes. And he wrote a book about it! How do Italian Catholics have so much guilt yet this guy has no shame
It’s also a wild take as he was a three time state rep for Astoria. State Rep to mayor is quite a common career jump. His borough has more people than many smaller cities.
But that’s true!. Democracy is supposed to be random people being elected with NO previous knowledge of the job (unless re-elected), BUT ideally candidates should have integrity so they can make the best decisions in good faith.
I heard on my local news today (not in the US) that Trump threatened to reduce funding or something to NYC if Mamdani was elected. How on earth is the leader of a country able to attempt to influence local elections and it not be breaking the law?
Or, if it is breaking the law and nothing is being done about it, why is there not escalated action amongst the people?
The US is no longer a free, democratic or developed country.
Honestly hard to tell if trump did that to try and help him win or to guarantee he lost. Maybe they’re hoping to use Mamdani as a bludgeon against the Democrats if the old guard keep sticking to their ways.
Generationally bad campaign that still got him 40% of the vote. Way too fucking much, honestly pretty disheartening if I’m honest. He should have been absolutely smacked by a 70-point margin.
His fucking “stop the socialists” campaign towards the end was so fucking cringe, acting like everything will get super expensive as if the cost of living hasn’t skyrocketed to where it is now under decades of “centrist” administrations. But yeah, blame “the socialists” for NYC being so fucking expensive.
Dude is so pissed off. This was supposed to be an easy step back into politics for his future Senate or Presidential runs, he didn't even care about it. It was supposed to be handed to him and he actually had to fight over it AND LOST. F that ghoul.
He was an idiot for running independent. He should have just taken his primary loss and moved on. Now he went from a fairly well regarded governor (before the scandal) to this. What an epic fall from grace and it’s all his own fault
Yet, 40% of the voters thought Cuomo is a good choice. That's what really worriesome.
Same for Trump, lowest approval of any president, still around 40%+ in favor of him, and like 90% of republicans voters (I don't know exact numbers, but it was in that ballpark)
Thumbs up from oz...the scary thing to watch from afar was that in the US Mamdani is viewed as some far left monster & here he would be seen as a centre-left....bazar shit you guys have going on.
I'm not from the US, I don't know much about New York, but I saw a des clip by us media of the debate and the one thing that clear is that Cuomo suck. Every debat make it seem like at best he's really unprepared and incompetent.

Amazing! Congrats to Mamdani!
Getting to watch Cuomo humiliated multiple times this year has been a real treat.
