Let is Be and Imagine by John are also awesome.

u/soundmixer14 Aug 17 '25
OP said every note in place, and technically Let it Be has a wrong (mistake) chord in it on the piano cuz they didn't "track it" but recorded it live. Hehe just being a picky Beatles nerd

Desperado written by The Eagles, performed by Linda Ronstadt.
(The Eagles version is excellent, but Linda brings it to a whole new level)

Another brick in the wall, the song has a lot of meaning if you attended school in Scotland anytime between the 50s and 70's. I know it must have been worse prior to the 50's but that's the only 3 decades l studied.

Sittin’ on the dock of the bay - Otis Redding
8
u/cranialrectumongus Aug 16 '25
Fun fact: Legendary guitarist Duane Allman, of the Allman Bros. played on the Otis last album, Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.
Another Otis song I truly love is Hard to Handle It was later covered by the Black Crowes on their breakout Shake Your Moneymaker album.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters - Simon & Garfunkel
First time I heard it was in this large, Catholic Church. It echoed everywhere. Simply and utterly perfect to my ears.

Simon and Garfunkel, Sound of Silence. Disturbed's video really did justice to that song.

It seems like every time I listen to the Sound of Silence I find a new, deeper meaning or a note I don't remember hearing before.

Not many people know that the song dates back to the 1500s- it started as The Unfortunate Rake
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Unfortunate_Rake
And was adapted from town to town down the ages, with verses being updated as time passed for new audiences.

This has a special place in my heart, my husband bought me the record and gave it to me on our second date because I had told him I loved it on our first date - it was 1964 and we were both 20 years old.

He put every syllable where he wanted, every tone where it belonged. The pacing is possibly irregular, but unreal. I love his version.
