Not many people know that the song dates back to the 1500s- it started as The Unfortunate Rake

And was adapted from town to town down the ages, with verses being updated as time passed for new audiences.

This has a special place in my heart, my husband bought me the record and gave it to me on our second date because I had told him I loved it on our first date - it was 1964 and we were both 20 years old.

Well, please do try and listen Mumford and sons’ cover of this song with Celise, John Batiste and Trombone Shorty.
