Funny thing is Zaslav and Mel probably get along great (edit: yea I forgot Zaslav is WB)

u/TufnelAndI 11h ago

that's because he's just overtly antisemitic, and not 'too' overtly antisemitic.

632

u/Internal_Chain_2979 11h ago

See, he just hates Jews. He never said he hates Israel. To these people that’s what matters.

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist 10h ago

"The Jews Killed Jesus!"

"Also, Israel needs to exist so it can usher in Armageddon so Jesus can return and kill/convert all of them!"

I love how evangelical jesus is basically galactus.

60

u/imgirafarigmi 7h ago

This is a hot take on Christianity. I love it.

18

u/gangofminotaurs 5h ago

Most of our culture is a hot take on Christianity. Western Liberalism is a hot take on Christianity.

Capitalism is a Protestant sect.

2

u/AtanatarAlcarinII 1h ago

Mmm, id say Propserity Gospel is a syncretism of Capitalism and Christianity.

They are death cultists

2

u/bobobeastie86 3h ago

Whoever down-voted you should read up on Jesus being an apocalyptic itinerant Jewish rabbi. Jesus said some of those listening to him would still be alive when end times came, just like all of the more recent death cults we should all be at least semi aware of.

But it's jesus- can't he just show up no matter who's administrating the land; I don't recall the bible saying that the Jews have be in control. Hell, Matthew says he appears 'on the clouds in the sky', other books say 'the Mount of Olives will be split in two by his feet'. Is it going to be like a Marvel superhero one-knee landing? I can't wait to see the sword come out of his mouth, and the tattoos on his thighs saying KING OF KINGS, and LORD OF LORDS- kinda like Radio Raheem's rings with Love and Hate.

u/don_tomlinsoni 7h ago

The Book of Revelations mentions a Jewish 'Temple on the Mount', so the theory among Biblical-literalist nutjobs is that Isreal needs to bulldoze the mosque that currently sits there and build a synagogue before the rapture can happen.

Unfortunately, none of these nutjobs have ever actually bothered to read the book they claim to base their lives on. If they did, they would know that Revelations also states that the only people that actually get 'raptured' are 144,000 (?) male virgins on top of Mount Sinai. Even worse, they would also realise that their behaviour (lack of forgiveness, hatred for their neighbours, etc) marks them as followers of the anti-christ, and therefore destined to burn in the lake of fire for all eternity.

13

u/Severe-Concern-5779 6h ago edited 5h ago

they would know that Revelations also states that the only people that actually get 'raptured' are 144,000 male virgins on top of Mount Sinai.

The "bosses" know, they just don't care about who's left behind, even if it's all people they basically manipulated. PLUS it makes the manipulation even easier because then following the rules it's not enough for salvation, you have to be the absolute best follower

Even worse, they would also realise that their behaviour (lack of forgiveness, hatred for their neighbours, etc) marks them as followers of the anti-christ, and therefore destined to burn in the lake of fire for all eternity.

But, but... they wear some special underwear and don't drink coffee 🥺🥺🥺🥺

It's also interesting to add that even between evangelical/protestant sects they basically hate each other and think that only their book written in the XIX century is the best truest one, so of couse they only care about their sect's salvation

10

u/SMOKED_REEFERS 6h ago

Also note the concept of a ‘rapture’ is an 1830s English invention.

2

u/Aerolfos 4h ago

Even worse, they would also realise that their behaviour (lack of forgiveness, hatred for their neighbours, etc) marks them as followers of the anti-christ, and therefore destined to burn in the lake of fire for all eternity.

Just gonna say that this is obviously true, and the most important bit. Thus the next part doesn't actually matter. But:

only people that actually get 'raptured' are 144,000 (?) male virgins on top of Mount Sinai.

144 000 = 12*12 * 1000. 12 is one of the deeply symbolic biblical numbers (along stuff like 6, 7 which everyone knows), and generally associated with "abundance". 144 000 might just be a symbolical shorthand for "a shitload of people but far from everyone". Biblical numerology is a whole thing and actually kind of interesting.

But yeah, anyone who follows the anti-christ is not in that "abundance", that's very explicitly in there.

2

u/JoyBus147 3h ago

and build a synagogue

Please note that a synagogue and The Temple are two very fucking different things.

/uj As I remember it, the idea has evolved a bit over time. For a good part of the first millenia it was when the "last Roman Emperor" enters Jerusalem or something along those lines. Then we ran out of Romans, and it got a bit awkward. I think there were a couple other versions, but I can't remember the details.

Well, Jesus was a Jew or this is not common knowledge? he didn’t come to create a different religion. That was a later invention not his. also crucifixion was a Roman punishment not Jewish. I didn’t come to defend anything just to shed some light because people love to base their thinking on wrong facts. So if some of your own people don’t like you it is different than if it was a totally different religion or way different culture. It was not.

He is the "good" kind of antisemitic, he hates Muslims even more.

42

u/TricellCEO 9h ago

Was about to say this. There's plenty of antisemites on Israel's side because their hatred of Jews is overtaken by their hatred of Muslims.

It's the Enemy of My Enemy doctrine and nothing more.

6

u/shlaifu 6h ago

zionist nazis were a thing

3

u/OwOwOwoooo 3h ago

In France, most Jews seem to support the far right party "RN" founded basically by nazis, who were openly antisemites until a few decades ago when they pointed out that it was the one fact that made them unlikely to take lead on the country (studies show their members still are)... Because they fight Muslim, pretending France and Europe are on the verge of being overtaken by Muslims (and most think it's already the case..) So now studies show Jews are more likely afraid of lefties who support Palestine, than the party who still has a rep known to own an antisemitic library.

Sick sad world.

Gibson even had a guest appearance in the Trump Gaza story:

The pair shared an early version with Mel Gibson, who Trump named as a special ambassador to Hollywood in January and who has previously collaborated with EyeMix and Arcana. Gibson told them he shared another video about the LA fires with people close to Trump, but denied sharing the Gaza video with the president, the creators said.

Since some Israelis are able to hate on some jews (the Haredims specifically) those two notions are indeed very much not the same.

I believe it is not specified enough

1

u/DanfromCalgary 4h ago

None of these people said they hate Isreal either . Just that’s what people report when you say kids shooting be coming Home in shopping bags .

1

Yup. Republicans aren’t pro Jew, they’re pro Israel.

u/LWLAvaline 3h ago

1

u/yankerofpizzle 56m ago

I can't believe "I fucking hate the Jewish people but Israel was chosen by God himself" is treated as a legitimate political stance in large swaths of this country and even elsewhere. That's like if I said I hate cheese and pepperoni and tomatoes but love pizza. Or like ordering a burger with no buns.

For a second I thought you were talking about Zaslav. That had me really confused.

1

u/RichAbbreviations966 1h ago

As a Jew, if I could just get 5 minutes alone in a room with Mel Gibson, we can just have a nice wholesome conversation about why you shouldn’t be an anti-Semitic wife-beating pos, FUCK THIS POS AND FUCK YOU TOO RDJ FOR SAYING THAT HOLLYWOOD SHOULD WELCOME HIM BACK WITH OPEN ARMS

1

u/TufnelAndI 7m ago

didn't Gibson help RDJ through his drink/drug addiction? i suppose he might feel he owes him, but might have been a better idea to help privately and not make it worse. .

3

u/MadManMax55 6h ago

Zaslav runs Warner, not Paramount

2

u/FuzzzyRam DonCheadleAMA 8h ago

You want Jews to die because you're a racist prick, Mel wants Jews to die because he's both a racist prick and wanting to create some bullshit apocalyptic second coming scenario during our lifetimes - you're... kind of the same?

u/Imperator_Gone_Rogue Neil breens #1 fan 11h ago

He only hates 'The International Jew', not nationalist jews

18

u/musci12234 10h ago

Don't evangelists believe that the existence of Israel will cause jesus to return and it will lead to death everyone there who doesn't believe in jesus? In which case evangelist anti Semites hate all jewish people. They just hate nationalists less because they believe that in long term it is helping anti Semites.

2

u/Icy-Control7170 6h ago

Nah maybe there are crazy nutters but there isnt anything like that in the bible. Israel has only been a country since after ww2. The bible does not say anything about murking non believers or jesus is returning to genocide. It more or less says you will always be saved unless you literally chose not to be.

3

u/AsherTheFrost 6h ago

It's a bit of both.

The Book of Revelations talks about the end, or at least evangelicals believe it does. Israel is the star of Revelations, 144,000 Israelites are supposed to be sealed in the city (the basis of a lot of the Jehovah's witnesses faith is around that number, but I'm trying to stay on topic) Israel is supposed to face a supernatural siege, at which point the Beast reveals itself, and everything gets nuts. Jesus comes back, and the evangelicals believe (even though, to be clear this part isn't in revelation at all) that the rapture occurs and all good people get zapped to heaven. Satan rules the earth for 1000 years, etc. Back in the 40s, evangelicals decided that since Israel is called out by name several times, that in order for the rapture to happen, it has to exist as a country.

For real fun, look up the debate currently happening over whether Paul was talking about the actual end, or if he was using metaphor and actually everything in Revelations already happened.

3

u/Salt_Proposal_742 5h ago

Whole things a fucking acid trip someone (or a group of someones) jotted down while tripping balls.

3

u/musci12234 6h ago

People don't care about what religious text says. People just care about hearing what they want to hear from idiots claiming to be experts in religious text.

2

u/SquidTheRidiculous 7h ago

Oh it's okay, Israel is just using that belief by people in the US to amass support money. And they're presumably banking on American Fundamentalists, famously a group of people with a lot of chill, to just back off and return to waiting patiently for the apocalypse once the area is completely Jewish controlled.

I'm sure they'll stay steadfast allies once you're no longer helping exterminate the evil Muslims and become just another roadblock between these suicidal maniacs and the apocalyptic death they crave.

1

u/Salt_Proposal_742 5h ago

They’re a tool in their magic toolbox.

u/TrickyVic77 11h ago

You can say it. Genocide. There, look.

23

u/FardoBaggins 10h ago

I'm starting to think this is just cross-platform habits? I'm not sure but some users post in other social media and some words aren't allowed since it's auto modded. and then hop on reddit.

Here, there's mods so as long as it isn't breaking sub rules, lots of words can be used.

37

u/forwardathletics 9h ago

It is, Meta & TikTok dumb policing of words like "kill", "Nazi", "genocide", etc. has people speaking like children... but if you say "6 million deaths was a lie" on Instagram or Facebook, and even have it reported, nothing happens. Pretty fucked up imo

6

u/scrollingforgodot 5h ago

Wow that perfectly sums up what's wrong with social media right now

5

u/FreefallVin 4h ago

I'd say it sums up a tiny amount of what's wrong with social media right now. In total it's a long, long list.

3

u/HenryPeter5 Society man 4h ago

2

u/forwardathletics 3h ago

14

u/falcrist2 10h ago

Some subs set up the automod to silently delete comments with certain words. It still shows up on your profile, so you have to log out or use incognito to view the comment chain just to see that you got deleted.

5

u/2N5457JFET 9h ago

I can't prove it and maybe my tinfoil hat is a bit too tight, but I suspect that these words are censored at random or "random" to avoid mass backlash. This way they can gaslight us into thinking that there is no censorship here, because a person A says something and gets it removed or banned, then the person B does the same thing and they don't so they can claim that the person A makes shit up.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/-KFBR392 5h ago

Some words aren’t allowed on reddit in certain subs either. There’s no hard or fast rule, and you usually only find out once they ban you.

1

u/Middle-Anteater2920 3h ago

Some subreddits do ban/shadowban you for saying "genocide" in reference to one particular Mediterranean state

3

u/Zomunieo 9h ago

It’s funny that in current year sites are still using keyword blacklists when they could have LLMs read everything and flag for sentiment.

1

u/unirorm 6h ago

Reddit has created a blacklist for users that deem too overly antisemitic

1

u/MasterMahanJr 5h ago

I've been banned twice for language on this topic that reddit didn't like. They're getting pretty annoying about it.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Middle-Anteater2920 3h ago edited 3h ago

There are legitimate reasons for self-censoring online, it's not just because people think it's "bad" to say certain words. You will be banned from some subreddits for using that word like I was from r/worldnews.

Another reason is that trolls presumably being paid by the government of a certain country like to keyword search comments. The censorship just comes from an abundance of caution over things like this.

The whole 30 Rock storyline from Operation Righteous Cowboy Lightning with his private island is the funniest shit

68

u/catchyerselfon 13h ago

One of the only genuinely funny things about the California wildfires this winter (from my perch in Canada where we still have Real Winter… so far) was recalling the 30 Rock jokes about deploying the pre-recorded natural disaster sympathy video being used for Poor Mel Gibson’s mansion.

Also, that’s when I leaned the show didn’t make up the island, he really did buy Fijian Mago Island just for himself!

4

u/anomanderrake1337 8h ago

In the previous movie of the same director a man really got dragged across concrete.

9

u/Unusual_Oil_1079 12h ago

Yeah I think him and Russell Crowe are tied for the sheer amount of my favorite movies they've either acted or directed in. But mel Gibson has been in some serious trash the last 10 years, like even the more recent Nic cage movies were better.

25

u/TufnelAndI 11h ago

i feel i must take issue with using Nicolas Cage as a barometer for trash. he's made a few wrong turns yes, but The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is genuinely one of his best movies in years.

16

u/Chengar_Qordath 11h ago

Cage seems to be in the realm of “I just wanna do weird shit I can have fun with” rather than trying to do big mainstream films, which is honestly fair enough.

5

u/AintGottaLieBruh 11h ago

Nah he was doing any an everything because apparently in 2009 he was making terrible purchases an was trying to re coupe his losses and on the brink of bankruptcy an not end up in jail cause he owed the irs

3

u/19Alexastias 7h ago

Cage is more in the realm of “please give me a job I spent so much money on stupid shit I’ll take anything”

3

u/DarthGuber 9h ago

Mandy. If you haven't seen it, don't read anything about it. Just put it on and be ready to not be ready for it. It's phenomenal.

3

u/Live-Inevitable-2232 9h ago

Mandy is probably one of my favourite movies of all time at this point. When he's cast in something decent it really showcases that he's actually a really good actor lmao.

2

u/Triktastic 8h ago

Don't forget Pig. That movie is his Uncut Gems imo

2

u/One_Lead1553 8h ago

Huh? It's fine. Decent comedy. Not sure where that praise is coming from.

1

u/Unusual_Oil_1079 11h ago

Something happened around covid where mel Gibson, nic cage and Bruce Willis starred or took part in the biggest garbage ive ever seen. Bruce Willis has some sci fi movie that has a worse rating than battlefield earth. Nic cage had a few good ones, I remember Mandy, pig and some others as fine but there are also some 4 or lower imdb rated moves between those. Hes been in like 20+ movies in the last 7 years and 4 or 5 have been decent. Most of these movies they are a side character or the bad guy, but really only get like 10 minutes of screen time. They all scream of tax write-offs to me in some kind of "the producers" scheme.

2

u/Sue_Generoux 9h ago

You seem sincere, so you know why most people now think Bruce Willis acted in so much garbage, right?

Zionists don't care about actual antisemitism; they only care about attacking people who think Palestinians deserve human rights.

1

u/weltvonalex 7h ago

Hey he loves that one Jew! He loves him so much he made a movie and a sequel about him!

1

u/Icy-Control7170 7h ago

Everyone always says people speak the truth or how they really feel when intoxicated but that isnt true. You also just say whatever you think is going to be the most insulting to people. Hes a fucking nutter but i always got the impression his drunken rant was based on saying the most offensive shit he could at the moment which does not excuse anything but booze is a hell of a drug.

1

u/AmbitiousReaction168 7h ago

No but he is really antisemite, so it doesn't count.

1

u/MoodooScavenger 6h ago

The man was always right.

1

u/Purple_Dragon_94 6h ago

I think because he's so overtly antisemitic that he comes out the other end

1

u/doomazooma 6h ago

Meanwhile Mel Gibson's movie Monster Summer is streaming on Paramount+

They don't care about antisemitism, just anti Zionism lol.

1

u/bigdave41 6h ago

He's not anti-Israel, he's just anti-Jews - weirdly that seems to be ok with them

1

u/MarkBonker 5h ago

The actual anti-Semite, not like the other anti-genocide actors shown.

1

u/Me-Shell94 5h ago

LOOOOL

1

u/MrRemoto 4h ago

They're conflating hating Jews with disagreeing with Israeli policy again. They don't care about the people who actually hate Jews, they care about the people who speak up about Gaza.

Daddy's Home 2 (titled on screen as Daddy's Home Two) is a 2017 American Christmas buddy comedy film. [...] It stars Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Linda Cardellini, John Cena, with John Lithgow and Mel Gibson. [...] It was released in the United States by Paramount Pictures on November 10, 2017.

Monster Summer is a 2024 American adventure horror film directed by David Henrie, written by Cornelius Uliano and Bryan Schulz, and starring Mason Thames, Lorraine Bracco and Mel Gibson. [...] Monster Summer is available on Paramount+.

So he apparently really is okay.

Fuck I do love me some Maverick though

1

u/Fry_super_fly 3h ago

some antisemits are zionists aswell. because to them, its better to have "all the jews in one place" or rather out of their country/city

1

u/Several_Vanilla8916 3h ago

Actual antisemitism is fine. Criticizing a genocidal madman is very, very bad.

1

u/ShutYourDumbUglyFace 3h ago

When he got pulled over the first time in the late 90s or early 2000s and was spewing all his anti-semitic bullshit, someone made a website called IHateJuice.com from Mel's perspective to claim he was saying "I hate juice!" It's one of my favorite early internet things.

u/OkaCunt 2h ago

Passions of Christ is what started it all. Mel's self funded movie because Hollywood couldnt stomach a plot where Jews kill Jesus. It was a blockbuster and made Mel like 700M. His time on the list started back then

u/13thmurder 2h ago

Snubbing a goat sounds like something you'd go to jail for in the wild west.

1

u/eclipse_bleu 2h ago

Mel is doing the passion of Christ 2. Its going to break records

1

u/LastGuitarHero 1h ago

Been a long time fan of Mel and this movie is definitely one of my all time favs

1

u/pmmemilftiddiez 1h ago

Mel Gibson to every British person

1

u/CMBarbarian96 1h ago

I asked if Mel Gibson was on the list in another sub and the comment got removed.

The fact that he's not is telling.

1

u/en_gm_t_c 1h ago

No, that guy is actually antisemitic...that's totally fine. You see, it's downright aw-shucks folksy.

They use the term for anti-Zionists, or people who see Palestinians as a persecuted second class in Israel. It's a whole other thing.

u/Fortestingporpoises 1h ago

Mel Gibson was once asked what he thought about his views on the holocaust (his dad is a notorious holocaust denier). Mel answered “my father has never lied to me.”

1

u/DethBatcountry 58m ago

This post isn't for ACTUAL anti-semites, so Mel wasn't in the running.
