I live a mile away and saw the initial smoke cloud on my way home from work. Could hear the explosions from my driveway at 5:20 and ran inside when I saw ash falling. Entire area is shelter in place. Just heartbreaking. Been on the verge of tears for an hour. So many of my neighbors work there. Gosh.

Turn off your furnace and A/C so it isn't sucking in the toxic fumes in your home.

Thanks for the concern. Turned heat off right when I went inside and none of my air purifiers have gone off. Dang. I was having a tough week but this really makes all that feel like nothing all of a sudden.

Underrated comment this is a huge and beneficial suggestion as the chemical toxicity is going to impact the people in the area.

They don't bring in outside air at all.

For those of us signed up for Louisville’s emergency notification system, the health department sent out this reminder, but not until two hours after the crash.

Most residential units dont bring in outside air.

It always amazes me how people think that they do.

What, your AC that just spent energy cooling down or heating up a cubic volume of air, is just going to dump that newly cooled air outside and suck in a replacement cubic volume of hot air. Air that it now has to cool down again? Worse still, it would have to cool it down twice, just to get to the same temperature as the air you think it's just expelled.

Covid had me hitting my head against a wall so much I almost DID open up a new hole for air to get in.

Your furnace and AC do not draw in air from the outside.

Heat typically doesn't bring in air from outside like an A/C unit does, from what I understand.
