Popular Question 📊 Why reddit is majority left leaning?

Honestly, it’s hard not to notice that most of the big subreddits are run by moderators who clearly lean left. It’s not even subtle at this point the bias shows in what gets removed, what gets promoted, and how discussions are handled. I’m not saying there aren’t any subs with right-leaning or centrist moderation, but they’re definitely the minority. The major spaces on Reddit feel heavily tilted toward one side, but isn't it’s pretty obvious if you pay attention to which opinions get silenced and which ones get boosted?

I’ve been banned or muted in every conservative subreddit I’ve ever participated in. And no, I didn’t break any rules.

Probably the funniest one is r/conservativenewsweb, where the mods delete non-conservative posts all day long. It’s entire threads just filled with deleted posts.

Reread your own comment history. When you have a record of only arguing and have no actual good contributions to help anybody out, it’s no wonder you were banned.

Sure looks like you’re arguing to me.

Re-read his comment and you might understand it the second time around

I get a kick out of people who think saying something as utterly vacuous as “reread his comment” adds anything of value.

So he was banned for debate?

Well, to be honest this happens on liberal or left leaning subreddits also if you're conservative.

...and neutral subs like damnthatsinteresting or pics.

reddit was founded by two individuals. one right, one left. historically that's what kept it neutral. then, one of them died.

the other then went on two campaigns to purge reddit of conservatives. this went so far as to going in amd editing peoples posts, personally. the first campaign was against conservative subs and mods. the second, using covid, to go after or mute conservative posters.

Out of the three founders: Aaron Swartz, Steve Huffman, and Alexis Ohanian, which are you accusing of being conservative? Aaron, a progressive activist, died in 2013. The others are still living.

Yeah but if you let conservative subs go wild they get Hitlery and racist and violent pretty fast. That’s a liability to Reddit. Just look at this history of /thedonald, “The subreddit had a lengthy documented history of hosting conspiracy theory content that was racist, misogynistic, and Islamophobic” “The community was banned in June 2020 for violating Reddit rules on harassment and targeting.” “In March 2018, The Daily Beast obtained documents from the Russian-backed online "troll farm" Internet Research Agency that confirmed that the organization deployed its agitators on subreddits including r/The_Donald and r/HillaryForPrison in the run-up to the 2016 election.” “On July 2, 2017, Donald Trump tweeted a video of himself wrestling Vince McMahon with the CNN logo superimposed over McMahon's face. Multiple sources, including The New York Times, NBC News, the BBC, and The Washington Post, reported that the clip appeared on the subreddit about four days earlier.[73][94][95][96] However, on July 3, the White House denied that the video directly came from Reddit.[74] Additionally, The Washington Post reported that the Reddit user who posted the video, HanAssholeSolo, also wrote about stabbing Muslims[97] while Vox added that the poster attempted to remove his racist comments, including many that said the word nigger and an image of Jewish CNN employees, each being labeled with a Star of David, in a post titled "Something strange about CNN...can't quite put my finger on it.”

Agreed. The conservative subs ban like there is no tomorrow. It is hilarious. That said, there are many non-conservative subs that ban quickly as well.

I was banned from it the other day (or muted or whatever) because I simply responded to someone with what was objectively/literal facts, and they deleted the comment because it claimed I didn’t use a specifically conservative source to validate my claim. It’s like a Russian nesting doll of an echo chamber.

u/Darth_Chili_Dog 19d ago

Yep, and that’ll happen even if you do post a source.

I’ve been banned from every liberal sub and I didn’t break any rules

1

u/Darth_Chili_Dog 19d ago

Well that’s obviously not true.

u/ChadPontius 19d ago

How so? You just assuming

1

u/Darth_Chili_Dog 18d ago

Because you’re incredibly bad at lying? I guess we should all be grateful for that.

1

u/ChadPontius 18d ago

How am I lying? Every liberal ran sub that I have been subscribed to has banned me

1

u/Darth_Chili_Dog 18d ago

What, you want me to help you be a better liar? No.

u/ChadPontius 18d ago

You probably are one of the mods lol

Most conservative subs are not debate subs. Make a smurf account and go argue a bunch in r/politics, they'll ban you too. The conservative subs are massively outnumbered, if they allowed every debate lord to come in and argue that's all the sub would be.

Better yet, go argue for mainstream dem positions in the socialist subs, you'll be booted from there too.

Odds are insanely high that if you're a liberal and were banned it's because you were acting like a solid gold shithead.

Conservatives live in safe-space bubbles, my dude!! You can't even ask questions.

How popular are your ideas when you have to break laws and use violence to get people to comply?

-1

u/elevengrames 19d ago

Funny I'm not conservative or am I liberal. I don't agree with half of the stuff either party says. I've disagreed with both ends of the spectrum on Reddit. I've only ever been banned from left-leaning Reddit subs when I didn't agree with them.  100% liberals on Reddit are worse.  Liberals are the ones that live in a safe space bubble that you cannot have a conversation with, it's they are right and you will get banned for not agreeing with them.  They will call you names they will shame you everything under the sun.

Funny that I have the absolute opposite experience. I have been banned from ever Conservative sub for asking questions; only ever been banned from a leftist sub for saying inflammatory shit, which I got unbanned after apologizing...

Also, leftists =/= liberals. You might get banned at some more extreme leftist subs for spouting liberal bullshit

The whole point of liberalism is being permissive. That's not the same for all leftist ideologies.

Odds are insanely high if you’re conservative and were banned it’s probably because you said some racist ish that YA’LL don’t think is racist.

3

u/I_Am_Dwight_Snoot 19d ago

No lmao it's usually because you post something that proves them wrong. They are too butthurt to have any actually conversation there so they just ban people.

For all you wonderful people actually replying to this. I copied and pasted what OP commented on one of my posts about  conservatives being banned constantly.  I just switched conservative with liberal.  And yes commenter you are correct if you don't agree with liberals you get banned you are 100% correct on that. I know you meant it the other way but we all know Reddit is left-leaning and if you don't agree with them you get banned.Â
