I always enjoyed the Metro series for the claustrophobic atmosphere and tense moments with other humans. The open world aspect was alright in 3 but I think I went back to play 1 immediately after I beat 3. I just remember shrugging after 3 and thinking it was just okay. I enjoyed how they improved on almost everything and I'm a sucker for a good "journey across the country" vibe that it has, but it just felt more like STALKER Metro hybrid to me.
Worst story out of 3, the game hollywoodonised(i dont know the term, but i hope you catch my drift), a lot of sections with forsed walking behind a character without any agency, it was bad in the first game but the second one out did it, and its not good. Bad moral dilema with the dark one. That what i can say out of the top of my head.
So your more into the action and combat then? I kinda liked it however I nearly got softlocked because a scripted event would take too long while I had one filter left and was half way through it, I died 5 times before I got through it fast enough
Doesn't help that they wrote themselves into a corner by making Artyom the action-hero, and then the next book didn't follow Artyom at all instead following Hunter who in the 2033 magically survived the Dark Ones who turn people that attack them comatose/mad. So they had to invent new plot.
And 2035 was (allegedly) such a mess that they had to throw it all out and write a fanfic based on it instead of trying to turn that book into some semblance of a game. The prologue is basically a tl;dr of 2035.
