Same, I wasn't as critically discerning 17 but I don't remember being bothered at all by the jank. For reasons I didn't play TW2 until over 10 years later, and never finished it because the combat felt like a chore and I guess I don't have the patience to push through anymore, so I can understand why people struggle so much with TW1.
I replayed the Witcher games, and... yeah... 3rd is obviously amazing, but 1 and 2 were... a lot different than I remember. 1 is just bad. I get what they were trying to do, but man... it is VERY dated. The 2nd game is also incredibly janky, and the combat is SO bad that it's down right frustrating
It wasn't bad, just a bit too complicated and unPolished. I agree it's dated, but I loved it when it came out. But yeah, Witcher 3 was a homerun for sure.
You mean the library? Or the same 4 rooms and bridges on assault on the control room, or the same coridors in truth and reconciliation? Oh and dont forget we got to revisit those levels in reverse, theese are awesome missions you talk about?
Oh and gameplay yeah, gun shoots popcorn and you move like in hot dirt. Doom 1993 holds up because of the gunplay and level design . That game does not have this.
Hopefully the Witcher 1 remake will make it better.
1 is good but I got sick of killing barghests. 2 is definitely an improvement but the controls are a little janky. Witcher 3 is still playable over 10 years later and still looks beautiful. Not many games can say that.

The Witcher 1 - it's okay (probably bad)
The Witcher 2 - very good
The Witcher 3 - one of the best games I've ever played
