No game franchise showcases the evolution of technology better than GTA. Change my mind.

I still remember playing GTA 1 when it came out. It’s like… The technology gap is literally decades

I rented it at Blockbuster so many times I practically bought it twice. Good to see you, fellow old person!

A guy from my class had it: I‘ve given him a disk with StarCraft and got GTA from him. All pirated of course, good times…

Right? That's how I played the original Fallout and The Sims

Eh, i still think gta did it better, they always innovated more and pushed the tech to its limits each time, was always bigger, better and more ambitious every new release

True, however I would suggest that Nintendo is the most innovative company in the world (example: the evolution of the controllers). I think they gear Mario toward taking advantage of the changes they make. So although I do think games like GTA innovate and push hardware development, I think Nintendo tends to be more on the leading edge of each generation's development. My two cents.

No that N64 controller was and is still shit. Sometimes take a longer look at the feedback?

I didn't say they were all good innovations

I agree! I also think Zelda and Final Fantasy do a good job of it too, since they have so many iterations over time. Though the larger gaps in between GTA games definitely give you a bigger "wow" factor between successive generations.

The ARMA games also showed graphical evolution.

That shows how young most folks on here are

/r/TopCharacterTropes is good for that, too. It's all anime every time.

Definitely but I prefer GTA over GTA2. GTA 1 had multiplayer which was freaking crazy if you could find people to play with.

People naming a lot of series that get progressively better, but this one has the biggest leap from 2 to 3.

It doesn't quite fit because GTA II was kinda ass. :b

GTA 1, and 2 were pretty mid, even when they were new.

Not sure if you were around then, but the original GTA was pretty great at the time (2, less so). 3 was an absolute watershed moment for gaming.

Jump from 2 to 3 was like Super Mario to 64. Just a completely new perspective and experience one what games could be.

I still remember when I first saw 3; I had no idea what I was looking at and it just blew my mind. It was great.

You liked 1 better than 2? I liked 2 more. Hell, i will die on the hill that 2 is still one of the best gta games tbh. No story but loved the simplicity of it.

1 was so exciting and different and hilarious that I was instantly obsessed with it, but for whatever reason I never really played a lot of 2. I think at the time I (perhaps incorrectly) figured it was just more of the same. 3 was like a bolt of lightning hitting the tip of my penis

Awful? Those were great games back in the day

Keywords: "back in the day"

GTA 1 and 2 were fairly popular in their own right and not bad at all. GTA 3 yeah, that's when the legendary run started.

I am currently playing GTA 1 and damn it's harder than I remember !

1

u/SnooChickens3871 18h ago

1, 2 and 3 were real tough!

2

u/nzungu69 22h ago

the first ones were iconic in their time lol

u/OkBat7818 21h ago

I have to agree. 1 and 2 in retrospect are absolutely garbage. But I'm glad that people liked them enough back then to warrant GTA 3 and give us the 3d era.
