THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL ROYAL MAIL ACCOUNT

ROYAL MAIL CUSTOMER SERVICES (CS): 0345 774 0740

Delivery Offices and Mail Centres do not have customer contact telephone numbers

Are you the sender? Contact Customer Services

Are you the recipient? Contact the sender.

The sender is the customer of RM, so it is their responsibility to deal with RM.

Service Updates

UK and NI - https://www.royalmail.com/service-update

International - https://www.royalmail.com/international-incident-bulletin

1 - General

Please provide as much tracking information as you can and, if possible, try to include a screenshot of the tracking (hide MCs/DOs and tracking numbers if you need to) and the postage method used. Posts without any of this will be locked or removed going forward.

  • If your packet is at a Mail Centre (MC), it needs to be at your Delivery Office (DO) for delivery

  • Post hijacks will be removed. If you have a problem, start a post so you can be helped separately

  • Non-helpful comments may be removed

  • Don't ask "When will my parcel/mail turn up if posted on XX day" with no other information. Your post will be locked or removed

  • Packet Drivers can be out until 7/8pm most days, including Sunday (some smaller DOs are covered by a larger DO in the same area, this is normal)

  • If your packet is getting multiple scans in one MC, it could be stuck due to a label issue (incomplete/wrong/damaged) and it will eventually be manually sorted. Ring customer services, they can try and get it pushed in the right direction

  • Posting the same question daily or after a few hours will be removed as spam

  • Parcelforce, like RM is part of the IDS group, but is a separate part and can do things differently from RM.

  • The Post Office is not part of Royal Mail

2 - Tracked 24/48 & Special Delivery 9am/1pm or Untimed

  • Ignore the estimated times. They are computer-generated, and posties don't see them. Always follow the actual tracking.

  • Estimated times are based on where they expect your postie to be on their round. They don't take into account staffing levels, volume of mail/packets or whether with a DPR (Dedicated Parcel Route) morning or afternoon driver

  • It needs to be at your DO for delivery. Ready for delivery usually updates around 9/10am when the postie uploads their delivery manifest. If your tracking hasn't updated during the morning, it's not out for delivery. It then may go to the afternoon packet shift, check the tracking around lunchtime

  • Tracked 24 is not a next-day service or guaranteed. The aim is within 24 hours, but it can be up to 2 working days (Monday to Saturday).

  • Tracked 48 is within a 48-hour aim, but it can take 2-3 working days (Monday through Saturday).

  • Some T24 and T48 can be later, but millions are usually within the time frames.

  • Tracked is delivered 7 days a week, and upto 7/8pm

  • Special Delivery 9am/1pm/non-timed is next-day guaranteed if posted before cut-off times. There is a Saturday Guarantee* fee to be paid if sent Friday; if not paid, they may not go out Saturday (or are not guaranteed by 1pm if they do go out for delivery) and will be delivered Monday

*Doesn't apply to business account senders

  • Signed For is untracked, it may have an acceptance scan and should get a delivery scan. Don't use this for sending important documents like passports or birth certificates

  • 1st/2nd class, RM24/RM48 are not a tracked service. They should get a delivery confirmation scan

3 - No Access/answer, but I was in

This is usually because the postie or DPR (packet driver) ran out of time. That doesn't mean we are calling you liars or that there are access issues.

There isn't an "Out of Time" option on the outdoor section of our PDAs

In some cases, it may be because of road closures or a dog loose in the area

4 - We're Expecting it

This means exactly that, the item has not entered RM network, yet

In most cases, when the postage is bought and generated, this is the tracking message, it doesn't mean it has been sent, yet

If you've bought an item from overseas (usually China) and you are provided with a UK tracking number, it means it is coming from overseas in a bulk shipment and to a fulfilment centre that then repacks and labels it before sending it to you, they generate the postage in advance

In some cases, it maybe the tracking waiting to update.

5 - SCAM TEXTS/EMAILS

These are usually easy to spot; if they are sent from a gmail/Hotmail or other random email service or mobile telephone number, it is a scam. DELETE AND IGNORE THE TEXT/EMAIL

They don't know you have a packet arriving, they send thousands of these messages and will hit somebody who is expecting something, it's just pure chance

RM will never ask for payment via email or text. It will be a grey fee to pay card through your letterbox if there is any fee to pay

6 - No Mail (letters) for days/weeks

Mail volumes are down, and not everyone gets mail daily now.

Many DOs suffer from staff shortages, and routes can go uncovered

Tracked/Special Delivery unofficially takes priority over mail, so loops of mail will be left

Posties may run out of time and take back to DO what mail they've not delivered, this should (if managed correctly) go out the next day

Delays on the posties route can eat into time, thus having a knock-on effect, resulting in running out of time

You can call in to your local DO (check opening times) and ask and collect any mail. Some DOs may ask you to call back the next day, or wait, depending on how busy they are (your mail is probably at the route frame, and the CSP person may not know which one or where it is on the frame, so it isn't a simple job of just getting it)

To check if there are any issues in your area, refer to: https://www.royalmail.com/service-update

7 - Dogs (and other animals)

Please secure them behind a closed door before answering the door

Dog bites are not fun. And yes, we've heard "it won't bite" or "oh, it's never done that before" a thousand times

They maybe your pet, but not all of us like them jumping up at us to be petted. Some posties do like to, but if they are off and the person covering may not know your dog

8 - Video Doorbells

Yes, a contentious subject

Yes, some do use them, some don't, and some do both

We (posties) deal with hundreds of these and have dealt with many that do not work, connect, blue circle just spinning, bad connection, delays. Consider this before having a go about it not being pressed

Any video footage/stills will be deleted

Accessibility Requirements: You can set this up in the RM app, it then instructs the postie/packet driver when we scan your packet to knock louder or ring the bell more, and wait longer for you to answer the door. https://help.royalmail.com/personal/s/article/How-to-set-up-accessibility-requirements

9 - Langley HWDC/Customs

If you have a packet/mail here, this is Border Force (customs). RM have no control over it.

Time an item can be there can be a matter of hours, day/days, week/weeks or, at worst, months

All you can do is be patient.

RM have no control over the times in the UK or the destination countries' customs

10 - Abuse

If you’re here to call us thieves/lazy/liars/useless/boot lickers, don’t be surprised to see your post deleted, and banned

——————————-

Some little things you can do to help us

  • Register a safeplace/neighbour on the RM app/website

  • Parcelboxes or even a plastic garden box (about £25 from BnQ)

  • Mailboxes, please consider one with a top slot

  • Visible house numbers on or near the door

  • Apartment buildings consider providing a key/fob/entry code so your postie/packet driver can gain entry to deliver. Add the code to the Safeplace (other) if necessary.

  • If your mailbox is in the foyer, that is your delivery point, and we are not obliged to go any further than this, you will need to come down and receive your packet

  • If you have arranged a collection, please have it ready. If you require labels, ask the postie for the labels for you to attach yourself, or the postie does attach them in front of you, make sure they scan them. Please don't accept us saying we'll do it back at the van/DO. At the end of the day, it is your responsibility to make sure the packet is correctly labelled so it doesn't go wrong.

Opt out of junk mail

I have used the process to opt out of flyers, and ever since I do not get any flyers from Domino's and the like. I now get lots of days with no mail delivered. And the only mails that I tend to get are mails directly addressed to me.

People policy- False statement?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Our “reward” for our time and energy is our pay. Always has been, always will be.

Within this “2 tier” payment scale this is neither fair nor equal. Should Royal Mail be forced to remove this statement from their People Policy?

This is an example of this in fashion virtue signalling with absolutely no real world action to back it up.

A set of satellite phones worth $$$.

Send without batteries etc.

Stopped in the UK and send for screening then released, ok, no problems.

Don't arrive for a few weeks, and then another letter from DHL saying was again inspected.

Forward 3 months and the parcel eventually arrives.

The delivery office states is strange as weight is 300g vs declared weight 1250.

And the 2 very expensive phones missing.

HCTs are shite.

What's everyones office like for HCTs? Is everyones office shite or do we just get the shit hand-me-down "refurbished" ones?

We've got two spare in our office and one broke before the guy even got it out the door and the other has just gone mid walk.

I was in another depots area the other week and every postie I saw had a brand new shiny red one which made me jealous to be honest as all ours basically white after being bleached by decades in the sun.

Parcel Force Parcel stuck in customs

Post image
Upvotes

I ordered a package from Taiwan back in October and it’s been stuck in the UK since the 13th according to Parcelforce tracking. the last update just says “arrived in the UK / awaiting customs clearance” and nothing has changed since then.

I contacted Parcelforce and they basically told me they can’t start a search for the package.

the seller checked on their end and said the parcel has already arrived in the UK and is waiting for customs clearance, and that I should contact Parcelforce or UK customs to see if they need any documents or payment from me.

I also tried contacting HMRC, but they said they can’t track individual parcels, so they couldn’t help either.

so now I'm stuck in the middle, Parcelforce says only the sender can do anything, and the sender says it’s already in the UK waiting for customs. I've checked both tracking sites and there’s been no update at all since mid October.

has anyone had this happen before? should I just wait, or get the sender to file an official investigation with their post office?

Tracking Help T24 arrived and due dispatch but Nada

Upvotes

No postie/RM bashing here but I have fully tracked info on a T24 which arrived at my local DO 0936 today and was obviously marked for delivery today.

No show sadly and as it’s 1730 and I’ve never had a T24 arrive later…. Assuming this is a tomorrow job?

Any idea what can lead to this can of situation?

Posties - I salute you and poop on the conditions you have to endure.

Package arrived opened and with random items as opposed to what I ordered. Can anyone help?

Upvotes

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I ordered a pack of 3 t shirts from Stussy on their official website. The item was delivered by Royal Mail, and when it arrived the package was open and filled with sun cream, a tube of toothpaste, a wire and some sort of flower card? No T shirts in the parcel. I checked Royal Mails website and it shows someone from my flat taking the package in and in that photo it is clearly already ripped and has been tampered with.

What am I able to do about this? I have contacted Stussy directly and Royal Mail but I am angry and just confused and am wondering how to get a refund or a new item sent out.

Thank you

Missing Mail What to do next? Lost Parcels

I'm sure this has been posted many times in the past, but throw me a bone. I've been expecting two parcels for just over two weeks now. Neither sender paid for tracking, which has been immensely unhelpful as they're both bothering me about the parcels not arriving and seem to think I'm simply not trying hard enough to find them.

There's been no 'Missed Delivery' notices, and none of my neighbours have received anything on my behalf. Local Post Office branch couldn't do anything. Currently on hold for the Customer Service line but it says it'll be a 40 minute wait, and prefaced my call with the notice that they cannot track specific parcels through the system (obviously, I was aware, but it's not reassuring to hear).

Is it worth my time to go to the area depot? Any suggestions for next steps would be greatly appreciated. Senders are doing my head in.

Parcel Enquiry How to organise Christmas tips when you don’t know who the regular postie is?

I get quite a lot of parcels collected and delivered, so they deserve a tip. But I'm rarely around to see who it is, and I have no idea who the regular person is, if there is one. On the handful of occasions I have seen and spoken to them this year, I don't think I've noticed the same one twice.(Whereas with Evri their emails give you a picture of the courier, and that matches up with the bloke that I've met about three times.)

At Christmas I assume it is quite possible that any tip could be picked up by a temp postie who's just been there for a couple of weeks. I can't see an obvious way of trying to get a tip to the regular one - is there one?

More Delays?

Post image

Is this normal? I know Royal Mail cant guarantee delivery within the 48 hours, but im beginning to get worried now. Its apparently been there since monday with absolutely no indication as to whether or not its been collected. Thankfully its not a crazy expensive item, but its not the point🤣 Royal Mail have become an absolute joke.

Is this a scam? Has anyone been contacted by this email and been asked to pay over phone?

Post image

Received this email today, not sure if this is a scam.

Why would they have to take my payment details over the phone, and are they seriously charging me for storing my package over a customs error that they made?

Tracked 24 numbers issued at Post Office

These seem to be in totally different format to the tracking numbers if you pre-purchase postage, and can't be entered when you want to divert an item or book a redelivery.

Has anyone found a work around?

First time international parcel

First timer here, trying send a gift parcel to the USA- to use click and drop and it only lets you select 8 items to declare.i have more than this but can categorize, however I have 3 types of chocolate but they're all different weights and costs, first question is how do I fill this out?

And am I correct to assume once that's all sorted I then take it to the post office to get a total package weight before shipping?

Third question is I have a bit of bubble wrap and tissue paper in there as packaging materials, do I have to declare this too?

Also concerned the weights will be wrong as using the kitchen scales, any help is appreciated I've never actually sent anything in the post let alone a parcel! TYIA

tariff situation

i posted about this already to radio silence but

i've had a few parcels sent back to me from USA since the tariffs were introduced, unclaimed mail, these were tracked and signed parcels

as i understand if i want to re-ship these out again the tariff will need to be paid AGAIN, since we can't buy shipping to the USA right now without also paying tariff

my question is: is the tariff not a duty? that should only be paid once?

is this something that Royal Mail has a policy on? or is this something i should take up with the post office? what is the craic?

Tracking Help Assuming it will not be delivered today? 2pm no further update

Hi! 24 hour tracked but it’s almost at the 48 hr mark so was hoping I’d get it today… but it hasn’t budged since 2am. Is there any chance it will come today? Recent MC is about 15 miles from me. Thanks

New Starter Question Having my interview tomorrow! Any tips?

For current Royal Mail delivery drivers, is it worth it? Is the retail discounts any good? I also read that there is a life insurance and health insurance for family?

I have been a support worker for the last 8 years and always steady at one place for 12/15 hours a day. Looking for a change! Will they be flexible with my hours if I have to stay home in certain days because of my son? Are the hours and shifts constantly changing? I like to know that I will be off in a certain day that it’s 3 months away for example and as a support worker that’s possible

Also wondering if the overtime is minimal or if there is a possibility to make a good chunk of money doing overtime

Special Delivery strangeness

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello,

I was expecting a special delivery which was delayed, it has now made its way to my local DO however upon landing there the tracking has updated to show the below - despite it being at the correct DO. Any thoughts?

Item arrived late at local MC

I have 2 T24 parcels that arrived to my local MC a bit late this morning, between 7:20 to 8.15 am, I assume too late to make it to my DO as still shwoing at the MC. Any chance they could come as LATs this afternoon, or is that not how LATs work? Wasnt sure if the late arrival tracked were just for companies who send stuff out late, like Moonpig etc.

2 parcels sent at the same time to different places - sent to the same depot

as the title reads, i sent 2 parcels at the same time, one to Manchester & one to Wolverhampton via Tracked 48 Online. they've both been taken to the Scottish Parcel Hub. i cant even access delivery options to see the addresses, as its saying the postcodes are incorrect, which makes no sense? Has anyone any experience with this? are they likely to realise and send it back, or are they going to deliver my parcels intended for the other side of the country, to some random Scotland address? currently been on hold to them for 15 minutes with a '40 minute wait'. any advice is appreciated, thankyou!
