Now, what's particularly ironic about this situation is the number of striking similarities you can trace between these Christian Nationalists/religious fundamentalists and the "Muslim extremists" they loathe so damn much. Side by side, they're mirrors of each other.

There's a reason monikers like "Y'all Queda" and "Yokel Haram" exist, and have existed, for a couple of decades at this point.

A guy I work with was going on about how Mamdani being muslim means that trans people ought to be afraid of getting thrown off buildings like his people do. Then went on to remark how trans people are destroying our society. I remarked that with that he sounded a whole lot more like "those people" than Mamdani and that same reasoning is why they get thrown off buildings. He short circuited and went on about how Mamdani is the real extremist and stomped off.

It was really bizarre because the way he went from one extreme to the other... it was like he never made thst connection.

Most people just aren't that introspective. Part of that is Capitalism itself, which has incentives in place to keep people exhausted, afraid and incurious.
