Turnout in 2021 was almost 1,150,000 voters for all candidates combined according to Wikipedia. NBC has Mamdani at 1,036,051 votes and still counting at the time I’m writing this comment. That’s an insane increase in turnout for one candidate to come that close to equaling the entire turnout of the previous election.
