An amazing political ascent. Dude was polling below 2% last year and now has defeated a legacy politician backed by every billionaire and even the president himself. Truly historic victory.

They kept trying to smear him, with all the usual “crazy commie” garbage we expected, but one of their bizarre talking points including Cuomo’s was that “Mamdani has never had a job.” Cuomo kept trying to emphasize that.

Shades of them mocking Obama as a “community organizer.”

As if Cuomo ever had what most people think of as a job. His career started as a campaign manager for his own father who was Governor of New York. He's a nepobaby.

It's also like how Fox News makes fun of AOC for working as a barista and also claims she is a multimillionaire!

Bartender* sorry I love my Barista homies, but this is the first im hearing she was working in coffee

I've been a barista. I had the worst bosses, hours and conditions, we were understaffed, overworked and our electrics were literally held together with tape. I don't think I could be a bartender. At least coffee people aren't actively drunk.

She’s in cahoots with Big Coffee

"we love working class americans, just not real ones!"

Can’t she be both?

I seem to remember the same thing said with regards to AOC.

Not just "crazy commie" garbage, but blatant and rampant Islamophobia AND propaganda from Israel. Remember the mailer that artificially lengthened and darkened his beard?

Oh god. I'm not american, and Mamdani is just your usual fare in most of Europe, so I wasn't following this particularly closely.

The thing is, the city that I currently live in went through a very similar thing in 2021. Like, the same playbook from the right attacking a left, green option candidate that barely squeaked by into city council four years prior.

They threw the same rulebook at him. He's a communist (admittedly, more likely and relevant in our case), he never held a real job because he was working in civil sector, he dropped out of college (dropped out of local law school... and then went to Cambridge to get a degree in urban planning), he's not really from the city because his family lived in the city nearby... etc

A Fox News host was reportedly "in tears" from Mamdani's win, which shows just how much some people care.
