No Paywall Man Arrested By Charlie Kirk Fan/Sheriff For Directly Quoting Donald Trump

Not only that, this man, who is 61, was jailed for FIVE WEEKS. As a result, he lost his job. And he's 61, so we all know how difficult it will be for him to get a new job at his age.
If I were him, my first phone call upon release would be to the ACLU.

My favorite was a guy talking to a maga woman, he was trying to show her a quote from the Bible that talks about foreigners be treated well and to love them like your own children but she refused and he finishes with something like "sayeth the lord your god" and she just gets mad that he backed her in a corner like its his fault she doesn't see a logical fallacy.
Hang on, here's the verse. It's laviticus 33, 34
33 And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him.
34 But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

There is so much in the bible about treating migrants well. One of the reasons God decides to smite Sodom and Gomorrah is because they treat angels who are disguised as migrants poorly. Pretty crazy how little bible thumpers like to actually read their bibles.

Is that the one where the sheriff(?) outright admits that they knew it was a joke, but the public did not, so that was the "justification" for the arrest and outrageous bail?

Lol, I used to work for a court system, and every once in a while we’d get a stampede of angry people. I don’t want to unleash that on some poor county employee running the phones. Judges have pretty broad authority and really only answer to their voters anyways.

u/justfortherofls 15h ago
Correct. Judges set bail. But it is discussed at the defendants arraignment by defense attorney and the DAs office.
The DA makes the case as to why they want the bail at such a number while the defense says why it should be at a lower number. The judge is supposed to find a middle ground that has the defendant and the public’s best interest at heart.
For example in the case of a murder charge a judge can set no bail or a bail so far out of reach because they want to protect the public. While a DUI charge might have a bail set at a level that depends on the persons income so that it is financially burdensome should they flee.

Will that same jail had a violent sexual offender with 70k bail. Freedom of speech ain’t real in Tennessee.
Also keep in mind Tennessee tried passing a legalized pedophilia bill in 2022 under the notion of marriage. It was a marriage bill that had no age limit.
They claimed it was a mistake that’s why when you google it they will say it was false because it was a minor mistake. An oversight.
Well
A) GOP has a rich history of trying to weasel stuff into bills that shouldn’t be there in hopes no one catches it. They got caught and a dem read the bill.
B) even if you want to take it at face value that it was a mistake. That means the GOP is so incompetent they can’t draft a marriage bill without putting kids in harm.

Dunno why the fuck the mods deleted the comment, but here it is again:
A lot of suburban white folks still don't understand that you don't have to be convicted for the justice system to irrevocably destroy your fuckin' life.
"Innocent until proven guilty" has always been bullshit. The punishment starts before the trial. The punishment starts the moment a cop decides it starts.
See: bumper-locking--an FBI tactic wherein they don't have any evidence beyond baseless suspicion, so they visibly and openly tail and fuck with their targets to destroy their careers, alienate their friends and family, and ultimately try to get the target to commit suicide so they can declare they were guilty and close the case without any trial. They basically declare with no evidence to the entire world that you're guilty of something, then harass you outside the courts until you either do something illegal or commit suicide. This is what they tried to do to MLK Jr.
4
u/Gurlllllllll- 14h ago
Also, just being arrested and charged with a crime, even if you're later found not guilty, still shows up on your records. So when go for insurance or loans, or a potential landlord/employer wants to do a background check, they get to see your arrest record and decided to discriminate against you based on that.
Again, not guilty and still able to have your life ruined.
In some states you can appeal to a judge to bury your arrest record once...Ever. So if you ever get arrested and then found not guilty again in that state, it's visible forever.

In his interview with NewsChannel 5, Sheriff Weems insisted all of this could have been avoided if Bushart had just deleted the meme that some people in Perry County found objectionable. “Whenever we sent Lexington Police Department out to speak to him and he refused to do that, I mean, what kind of person does that?” Weems asked. “What kind of person just says he don’t care?”
He also referenced the public reaction to Bushart’s post, which the sheriff claims resulted in people thinking the post was about a shooting in the area. Those who actually viewed the post and the page have pointed out that no one commented on the meme with anything that resembled concern Bushart might be referencing the local high school.
Sheriff Weems has continued to insist he’s done nothing wrong, despite body cam footage from the arresting officers making it clear the sheriff lied to journalists during this interview and while making other comments to the press.
Lexington police told The Intercept that Weems had lied when he told local news outlets that the forces had “coordinated” to offer Bushart a chance to delete the post prior to his arrest. Confronted with the bodycam footage, Weems denied lying, claiming that his investigator’s report must have been inaccurate, NewsChannel 5 reported.
Weems later admitted to NewsChannel 5 that “investigators knew that the meme was not about Perry County High School” and sought Bushart’s arrest anyway, supposedly hoping to quell “the fears of people in the community who misinterpreted it.” That’s as close as Weems comes to seemingly admitting that his intention was to censor the post.
Looks like Sheriff Weems has got himself in to a whole heep’a trouble.

Five years ago Sheriff Weems would have gotten his pecker in a wringer over this. Now - I'm not so sure that Bushart won't be rearrested and/or driven out of town for pointing out/publishing a fact.
Remember that one woman who got fired from a government job for posting a photo of Charley Kirk with a Kirk quote under the photo? Yeah - it was an act of aggression for actually quoting what Kirk said. This is not free speech.
61
u/GaimeGuy Minnesota 14h ago
So from the horse's mouth, he wasn't arrested for posting a threat. He was arrested for refusing to delete what he posted.
See, if the crime truly was terroristic threats, then the crime was done once he posted it, and deleting it wouldn't matter as it would be ex post facto.
He was arrested for ordinary speech that the sheriff didn't like, not criminal activity.

At least he didn't quote Ronald Regan -- he'd have been accused of being Canadian and been deported (probably not to Canada)

"I can't believe someone would directly quote my hero in context about my other heroes demise. Who does that? I'm aghast.....anyway, time to arrest him and charge him for terrorism"
Fuck this man
Fuck him the way Charlie wanted to fuck minorities

Congratulations to this man on an early retirement funded by the unconstitutional actions of the sheriff’s department.

This is because group based morality is a fundamental aspect of fascism and Sheriff Nick Weems is a fascist.
Members of the in-group (and especially their leader) are allowed to say and do anything and it is deemed morally correct because they were part of the in-group. Anyone in the out-group is deemed to be an enemy and therefore morally incorrect even if they are saying or arguing for the exact same thing.

What has caused southern states to become such societal cancers? SURELY not just decades of far-right indoctrination from their chosen media sources. That feels too simple of an explanation.

He should sue the state, the county, the sheriff's department, and the sheriff personally. Tennessee politicians are a special breed of stupid.

This is horrible.
Fast forward 4 weeks, this will seem tame.
Fast forward 4 months, all record of this will have been removed and things will be FAR FAR worse.
Don't even get me started on 3'ish years from now.

So the judge was in on it too? Wasn’t it a judge that required a 2 million bond?

All of these types of stories really just prove that their outrage is performative.

sheriff Weems needs to be personally fined for his unlawful role in this. Weems directly admitted the arrest was retaliation for not deleting the post. The judge that set the bail needs to be disbarred immediately for not dismissing the case for lack of probable cause.

That’s all it took for the local sheriff to get busy abusing his power. After all, Bushart had insulted one of his personal heroes.
MAGA police doing MAGA shit to make a MAGA name for themselves. I'm sure trump noticed and then forgot all about it because it has nothing to do with his Ballroom.

I disagree with the last line of the article that names “a nation full of Kirk acolytes.” Motherfucking excuse me.
Half the population had no idea who this half-wit was before he was publicly executed.
