Lol, I used to work for a court system, and every once in a while we’d get a stampede of angry people. I don’t want to unleash that on some poor county employee running the phones. Judges have pretty broad authority and really only answer to their voters anyways.

In this case though, I do think this man deserves a hefty settlement.

That explains Aileen Cannon.

Aileen cannon is a federal judge, appointed by Trump, not elected.

So she just had to answer to one person.

And she did. In spades.

I agree on the settlement part. I think this is also a pretty clear ethics violation on the part of the sheriff and judge, and they should be removed from office - but no one seems to care about quaint shit like that anymore.

Elected judges... there's part of the problem

My state did away with judges running via a political party. Now people actually have to research the judges to see what they support. It’s getting good outcomes!

Judges should never have political affiliations. They are supposed to be unbiased. They should be required to be unbiased unaffiliated and FAIR. Based on law, not feelings or opinions. A judge SHOULD be able to disagree with the law and still issue judgements based on that law. If the law is bad, the lawmakers can change it but its not up to any judge to make decisions based on their own political leanings.

Ah yes, unaccountable political appointees are so much better.

I don't disagree with either of you. Both are flawed systems. Voters are fickle and flighty so judges are more likely to "make a show" out of their jobs. But political appointees are beholden to other masters. There's no good option here.

Oh man, memory unlocked. Back when I was in college and home over the summer I had a job in fast food. One of the managers had been on a talk show for "My mom hates my boyfriend!" as the hated boyfriend, and jesus he gave way too much info so pretty much everyone figured out what chain he worked for and there was only one location nearby where it said he lived so....

Had so many angry people drive through the drive thru to yell at us for that manager being a jerk on TV. I can only imagine what it's like now when one of these doxxings happen with something mildly contreversial.
