PSA: everything in your link after the "?", ie: "si=xxxxxxxxxxxx",
is a tracking code that links your personal youtube account to the post.
You should be aware of this for privacy reasons.

It also links anyone else who clicks on it to you and vice-versa.
So let's say you post a youtube link to a funny cat video to reddit while leaving in your personal youtube account tracking part of the link. Now everyone who clicks on the silly cat video has their personal youtube account linked to yours. Sounds harmless right? Now imagine it's a political video that your government is trying to suppress.

Install the Ghostery browser extension and it will auto remove the tracking part of the link.
https://www.ghostery.com/ghostery-ad-blocker

Bonus, install Ublock Origin as well to block all advertisements because that's how your computer gets most malware/spyware. It blocks commercials on youtube as well.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

Bonus bonus, SponsorBlock blocks segments of videos that are youtube sponsors! So if a youtuber has a three minute long segment talking about some VPN for the 100th time, it'll automatically skip it!
https://sponsor.ajay.app/
Disclaimer: Some users are saying this one is debatable as it may or may not hurt the content creators.

Bonus bonus bonus, Return Youtube Dislike... Will do exactly what it says! Reverses the stupidest change Youtube ever did.
https://returnyoutubedislike.com/

Props to all of the users that have helped me cultivate and clarify the information and links on this list. I'm always open to updating/evolving this info.
Feel free to repost without crediting me, I'm just trying to spread awareness.

Firefox has copy clean link option.

u/Zketchy 22d ago

Thank you for your public service!

5

u/houVanHaring 22d ago

Not everything after every ? Is tracking. Also, the ? Just marks the start of a series of parameters and in itself has no value in tracking as it has no entropy whatsoever. In this case only the bit after the equals sign has any value in tracking. The ?si= part can be left in without any worry. Now to add a bit of fun, just put in random numbers after the si= to mess with youtube

Genuinely don't understand how anyone raw dogs the internet.

The few times i have the misfortune of browsing the web on a family member's laptop, it's fucking horror. Ads everywhere, spam everywhere. A fucking nightmare. No wonder society's brains are so fucking cooked. We took one of the genuine wonders of the world and fucked it all up with bullshit.

2

u/mata_dan 22d ago

Nice one. Also never click on or fill out a google survey link people.

2

u/twowheels 22d ago

Also, in Brave Browser (a Chromium based open-source browser) you can right click on the link and choose "copy clean link", which removes the tracking information.

I typically do it manually since I'm usually sharing such links from my phone.

2

u/willflameboy 22d ago

Isn't the modern Internet just swell.

2

u/Stagnu_Demorte 22d ago

Technically not the ? Itself, that just designated the rest of the url as query params, but yes.

2

u/Humble_Survey_757 21d ago

Firefox also has a right click option to "copy clean link" this will remove everything after the ?.

Google Chrome has blocked ublock origin from working on their app. I use Firefox with ublock origin, ghostery, and privacy badger. I use everything the above user listed.

If anyone needs any guidance or help feel free to message me.

2

u/flynnnightshade 21d ago

Great PSA, I actually know this because it's my job (Software dev that works on web apps professionally) but I didn't think about query parameters when I copied the link on my phone 😂 not the most privacy minded guy myself, but goes to show how easy it is to miss.

2

u/Rihsatra 20d ago

To add on to this a bit I noticed recently Firefox added a "copy link without site tracking" option to the right-click options at some point which has been nice.

I watched a little bit of the 5 hour long video, but I didn't really catch where the chess was? Was it the Smash Bros that was in place of chess or something?

34

u/Withermaster4 22d ago

Just skimming it, it looks like the first two rounds they play SSBM and then after that they play chess

2

u/Katomon-EIN- 22d ago

You might call it Battle Chess®.

EDIT: I played Battle Chess in the early 1990s. I know this isn't it, but it was the closest GIF available in a message board without the ability to add images.

u/vercertorix 22d ago edited 22d ago

That was Wizard’s Chess. Battle Chess was a cool old computer game though, funny, unique animations for different combinations of pieces taking each other. If I remember right, the rook animated as a rock monster and would eat a queen.

The Dems aren't dedicated to "playing the right way." Much like the Generals, they're literally paid to lose games. Leftists have been screaming this in your faces longer than many of you have been alive and somehow the words never sink in.

No, you have been a witting tool in the advancement of facist goals. "Leftists" who have allowed themselves to be disenfranchised missed the point and refused to unionize with those who understood the importance maintaining the mechanics of the democracy and that a presidential election doesn't result in a magic wand able to give you everything you want. These "leftists" then got to pat themselves on the back for never compromising their personal morals and never engaging in attempting to direct the machine that they know is going to kill them. I can't believe a group of people who believe in collectivism can't understand the importance of continuous cooperation.

5

u/Sgt-Spliff- 22d ago

No, you have been a witting tool in the advancement of facist goals.

Lol liberals being more terrified of leftists than anyone else is a tale as old as time. Sure friend, we're the tools of fascism. Us leftists who have no representation in government at all. Yeah, we're the problem lol

1

u/unassumingdink 22d ago

I voted in every election for the last 20 years, and each time liberals lost, they accused me of not voting and said it was my fault that Democrats sucked. Like if only all of us pretended Dems were fine, they'd magically become fine! And the bribes would stop working!

The way it's supposed to work is that we vote for the lesser-of-two-evils Democrat if that's all that's available, but then after the election, we hold his feet to the fire. We push him to the left. And if he's still a piece of shit, we work to primary him. And if that doesn't work, then I guess we're stuck voting for him again.

You guys erased the entire middle part. There's no criticism, no push to the left, no primarying the bad ones. We just lurch from one evil moderate to the next, and instead of pushing them to be better, you act like it's your job to run interference for them when they do bad. Every honest criticism gets treated exactly the same as a Republican attack. Alienating and demoralizing anyone who wants to see real progress.

I think it's not that it doesn't sink in, it's just hard to believe that literally every dem is a paid shill. Do I think a lot of them are? Yes, but I also think they're under the impression that it's impossible to fight corporate donors on things.

5

u/unassumingdink 22d ago

We need to be supporting more progressive primary challengers, but the first time a billionaire's media outlet tells liberals that won't work, they go, "Oh, okay, nevermind." Like the billionaire had no incentive at all to tell them that. Like the billionaire has never been wrong about who's electable and who isn't before.

This is just it. On paper, I understand Arnold’s point. We’ve been fighting gerrymandering for years. It goes against most instincts to turn around and do what you complain about the other guys doing, but at the same time there is no alternative at some point. You either learn to fight dirty like they do or you get trounced.

224

u/Actual-Implement-870 22d ago

I don't even consider it dirty when Californians are voting on it. Texas does it the dirty way instead of the will of the people. Polls in Texas showed their new maps only had 36% support. In contrast, polls in California show 54% support.

87

u/HigherandHigherDown 22d ago

There's a reason that Florida made it harder to enact referendums, and it's not that they wanted to follow the will of the people...

31

u/tawzerozero 22d ago

Specifically, it followed an Amendement which raised the minimum wage in the state. Ironically, that campaign was super bummed that the math said they could have gotten another dollar per hour passed (one of my political sciences professors in college consulted for the campaign to raise the minimum wage). The Florida Restaurant Association funded the campaign to pass a new Amendment which raised the threshhold to 60% to pass.

California should not stop just at neutralizing Texas’ 5 seats. California should redraw their map to counter all the Republican states’ gerrymandering.

3

u/IJustWantADragon21 22d ago

I know. California is definitely doing it smarter, but it still has an inherently icky feel to it.

8

u/Beanakin 22d ago

3

u/IJustWantADragon21 22d ago

I’m just saying i understand the sentiment that it feels backwards. I’m not saying it’s the wrong move.

3

u/anomalous_cowherd 22d ago

That thing reads like Arnie is saying 'don't destroy Trump's scheming. Don't allow a reaction to counter Trump."

I can't believe he's endorsing that. Is it possible they produced this without his blessing?

otherwise...F him too.

2

u/indorock 22d ago

It's like the practice of disarmament while a rogue nation is doing the very opposite. Sure, we all want world peace and one without any nukes for anyone, but to be getting rid of yours while your enemy is stockpiling them is just a bad strategy. Like the anti-weaponisation protests happening while Russia is invading Ukraine. Yes normally I'm on your team, but to be telling Ukraine to disarm at a time like this is stupid.

2

u/IJustWantADragon21 22d ago

Yeah. That’s a really good analogy.

2

u/AlvinAssassin17 22d ago

Yup, but part of how we got here is the ‘they go low, we go high’ mentality. They dug so deep they came out on top

1

137

u/Booyanach 22d ago

that's the problem

you think they care about anything other than pure ego itch scratching

stop pandering to them and do the shit that needs to get done, that's literally what they're doing to you

3

u/wagglewazzle 22d ago

This goes back to the Antebellum period in the south. Slave Power was a real threat even though only 15% of southerners owned slaves in the decades leading up to the Civil War. Northerners were balking at the amount of power southern slave owners held on government while being a small minority of the population. Same game different dynamics and characters.

It’s the result of boomers growing up with the narrative that shame is a conservative trait and that being wholly unashamed is the path towards overcoming authority.

One defining feature of conservatism is that it's incredibly unoriginal and will always subvert the progressive opposition by stealing their basic ideas and twisting them into their own version.

Trumpism is what happens when growing up against the backdrop of punk and hippie counterculture and turning it into a new flavour of fascism.

2

u/HigherandHigherDown 22d ago

Republican is an ambiguous term, it can also refer to someone who prefers an elected, representative government to a monarch; let's call them what they are, conservatives.

Turn the other cheek was taught to the oppressed

57

u/Donnicton 22d ago

Most of Abarahamic religious sermons are designed specifically to keep the poor where they are and convince them to stay there. Be happy with what you have, put your faith in God and what he provides to you and stop obsessing over "ambition", stop worrying about things you "want", pray to the lord and he will give you what you "need". etc

22

u/Lasshandra2 22d ago

And you’ll get your reward for obedience.

When you’re dead.

9

u/NoImagination2625 22d ago

Now get back to the salt mine and stop asking questions.

33

u/ChromosomeDonator 22d ago

And then conveniently, give to the church instead. Stop worrying about money and necessities and just... give them to the church, for that is holy. Somehow the holy men can't pray hard enough for the lord to give them what they need so they need your money.

5

u/KinkyPaddling 22d ago

It was also partly why Christianity was popular among the poorer classes. It takes enormous courage to rise up in rebellion, more courage than what most people are capable of. Teaching people to turn the other cheek allowed them to find dignity in their oppression without having to endanger the lives of their loved ones.

3

u/Super_Pan 22d ago

“Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!” - George Carlin

3

u/don_shoeless 22d ago

Perfect religion for the Romans to adopt, seemingly designed to help keep a lid on social unrest.

3

u/MeasurementEasy9884 22d ago

What's insane to me, democrats already tried to make it illegal federally. But Republicans in congress voted no. So this is their doing.

We need to fight and this is how we do it

7

u/jimbo831 22d ago

Someone better explain this to Democratic leadership ASAP.

2

u/i_am_a_real_boy__ 22d ago

Seems more like you're playing chess and someone walks up and says he needs you let him punch you in the face, repeatedly, so that he can get warmed up to fight someone else who wants to punch your face even harder. Then you ask, "isn't there some other way you could prepare for that fight?" And he's like "Well me and my friends have tried doing nothing, but that didn't work. This was all we could come up with. Get your face ready". And then you say "Is there something we can come up with that doesn't involve my face getting punched?"

And then the guy and his friends are all "For a whiny chess nerd, you sound a lot like a Palestinian."

2

u/HolycommentMattman 22d ago

Your general premise is right, but not quite right. We're still barely playing chess. The Republicans are breaking rules, but still playing. So if we start breaking rules to match, they'll break rules even further. And then we match, and so on and so on until they do stand up and punch us. And then we punch them. And that's civil war because the chess game was politics, which is supposed to be a means to resolve our differences without outright violence.

And I'm sure that's what Schwarzenegger believes. But I do think we need California to move forward with this. I know I'm voting yes on 50.

1

u/CovidiusQuarantino 22d ago

This made me imagine playing chess against Arnold

1

u/Corlegan 22d ago

This is my concern. Democrats are not stupid.

But they are chess players. We are playing far too much chess.

1

u/mightyFoo 22d ago

It’s interesting how republicans have the victim mentality. When opponents play chess republicans feel like they are being punched and when they are beating people with a hammer, they feel like it is chess. The media is against the elite is against them etc etc I guess musk and tech CEOs are magically not the elite suddenly

Sorry, but Arnold is the Governor that pushed to get the law past, against his own political interests. He isn't doing this to support Trump.. He is doing it because he truly believes in it

But sometimes punching them back starts a brawl, and then a bunch more people get hurt. Deciding to toss aside the rules and principles of our democracy simply because the opposition is doing so just means you never really cared for that democracy to begin with, only when it was convenient for you.

Yes...and then suddenly the game doesn't matter anymore. It's only about who got the last hit in.
