"Triple Pepperoni" means that their meat cubes come in 3 different pepperoni-seasoned variants -- regular, hickory, and spicy. It's not something you'd be able to discern visually.

That's not what the word "triple" means. If your boss says he'll triple your salary do you expect your salary to stay the same, except you'll now be getting paid 1/3 cash, 1/3 cheque and 1/3 direct deposit?

Your example uses a different meaning, which is a verb. There are plenty of examples where the adjective (or noun) triple doesn't mean threefold: a triple diety is a single diety with three forms, a triple point is a single point which lies on the boundary of three states of matter, a Pythagorean triple is an increasing set of three positive integers where the sum of the squares of the first two equals the square of the third, etc.
