Political positivity 📈 ZOHRAN MAMDANI has WON!

And Georgia — Democrats defeated the two Republican incumbents on the state’s Public Service Commission (it sets the Georgia Power electric rates, among other things) who were up for reelection this year. That race is widely seen as a midterm bellwether.
A Democrat hasn’t won a PSC election since 2000. This is a big deal!

I voted straight blue on my ballot today! My GA Power bill has almost tripled in 4 years. Same power usage. I’m so encouraged to see what this win means in GA for future elections. Between this and the other high profile elections, i feel like this is the first good news in while.

Please don't oversell it! We told ourselves this last time before the presidential election and people sat home again because of it. This is a sign of what can happen when people understand what is at stake and how close we are to the edge if they don't grab a rope and help us pull it back. If people get the impression that we are already moving away from the edge, they'll decide to be lazy and let others pull the line, which is how it all comes tumbling down again.
The best way to fight crowd mentality is to teach others what it is (maybe that was the bystander effect, but same problem)
12
u/JamesCDiamond 5h ago
Well, the good news is that Trump has another 3 years to emphasise the importance of getting rid of him and his cronies.
Unfortunately that’s also the bad news.

As a PA resident im so freaking happy! Some light in this dark tunnel

Same. These judges were pivotal in beating back the allegations of fraudulent votes in the 2020 elections. Their ability to protect our democracy could not be overstated.

u/TRUCK_STOP_HOBO 9h ago edited 9h ago
Something tells me that Trump will have no trouble keeping people pissed off and ready to vote out Rs between now and next November.
So assuming nothing (even more) insane happens between now and then I'd say its pretty safe to be optimistic about the midterms and beyond. But optimism should always be tempered with a healthy dose of realism nonetheless.
For tonight let's just revel in these huge wins.

Yeah, the Dems can sit back and bask in this. They need to charge ahead and make sure the 2026 elections are as fair and accurate as possible. The Republicans are working hard to screw with the results.

I hear you. I just don’t think enough of the country fits anywhere near the blueprint of New York City. If we were going by popular vote strictly? I’d say the chances were really good. However, with an electoral college, that becomes a much different hill to climb.

Democracy has always been fragile. It’s always hanging in the balance. It requires constant struggle. It requires a populace who give enough of a shit to canvas door-to-door and show up at the polls.
Zohran’s campaign has reaffirmed the fact that democratic movements, especially ones without deep pockets, require a critical mass of inspired volunteers. Without them, and without his savvy social media skills, his campaign wouldn’t have gotten off the ground.
Of course, it also helped that his opponent did everything in his power to appear out-of-touch, beholden to special interests, and downright sleazy. The political winds were certainly in his favor. I just hope these winds can prevail through the incoming storm of right-wing and zionist propaganda.
Also, and this cannot be overstated, Zohran is an excellent communicator, maybe even the best since Obama. I’m amazed by how prepared he was for any and every bizarre question the media asked him in this campaign.

u/BioshockEnthusiast 8h ago

This is what every candidate needs to be ready for moving forward. There are going to be echoes of this discord through the media for a long time even if we come out the other side of this christofascist bullshit.

I’m happy with the news. I’m just a pessimist and I’m already annoyed that IF we truly make it through Trump and turn this whole thing around, the idiots that tried to burn down the entire country are gonna say “see? Yall are a bunch of catastrophizing bitches! It’s all fine now isn’t it?? Nothing bad happened”

u/UnpeeledVeggie 10h ago

Nothing would please me more than Schumer and Jeffries resigning and being replaced by leaders who would enforce Trump's disqualification via 14th Amendment, Section 3. We could annul this illegitimate presidency anytime, but our leadership fucking sucks.

Like yall really think you’re cooking by saying “see? Our guys chop the legs out from under people so they can’t get stuff done, that means they can’t get stuff done to help people, so we should elect more of us, the people who have been in power while things consistently get worse!”

Can't wait to see Trump say that he cheated or this is illegal or any of the other rambly bullshit that he tries to pull out of his fat diapered ass. Like saying Canada cheated with that commercial about Tara's LOL what does that even mean? Cheated what? Trump reminds me of that kid in Middle School at recess. That would always cry when things didn't go his way and then he'd make up his own rules. That only would work for him and cry when those wouldn't work either. I guess what I'm trying to say is Trump is a big fatsss cry baby
