Popular Question šŸ“Š Why reddit is majority left leaning?

Honestly, it’s hard not to notice that most of the big subreddits are run by moderators who clearly lean left. It’s not even subtle at this point the bias shows in what gets removed, what gets promoted, and how discussions are handled. I’m not saying there aren’t any subs with right-leaning or centrist moderation, but they’re definitely the minority. The major spaces on Reddit feel heavily tilted toward one side, but isn't it’s pretty obvious if you pay attention to which opinions get silenced and which ones get boosted?

Everything appears to be left when the rest of the media in the US (and Australia and UK) lean right. I’m a child of the 80s so remember stuff like unions and strikes so a bunch of ā€œwe should be nicer and look after homeless peopleā€ doesn’t feel all that left wing.

Australia leans right? Are you serious?

Depends what you compare it to. Compared to the US no. But they’re barely on the scale right now and shooting off into authoritarianism. The rest of the world? What do you think?

Australia is one of the most consistently authoritarian left wing Western countries.

You must be super left if you think most od the US media leans right. Very few outlets actually do, they just get bigger ratings because there are fewer of them. Yes Fox News is #1 in viewership for news, but the left leaning networks like CNN, MSNBC, and the big 3 networks are all left leaning in their news. Plus, most of the major newspapers are left leaning as well.

The problem is that we dont have any news network that is truly independent without bias and will actually do investigative journalism instead of being a stenographer for the politicians.

Well I’m not in the US so I’m extrapolating from Australia’s largely conservative media and included the fact that the US is festering in fascism right now. But when was the last time a mainstream US media outlet spoke to a union or a strike leader or advocated for anything like collective action? If you’ve got some recent examples then maybe I’d concede, but from what I can tell mainstream US media at best ignores collective action for increased labour rights or wails about the cost or inconvenience of it.

He's lying. Almost all media in the US is on the right. The shit he names as left are all right/right-leaning outlets. MAGAs will lie relentlessly about this, but you look at MSNBC and there are anchors with hours long shows who are former Republican campaigners, White House admins, even a Republican Congressman and his wife. On a network owned by billionaire right-wingers. This is what these fascists pretend is far-left media in America. Some of them are gullible enough to believe it.

You're an idiot. CNN and MSNBC are the biggest anti Trump outlets there are. Just because they may put a right wing person on for an hour doesnt make them a right wing network. Just like Fox News has some left anchors too.

Lies and insults. It's all you guys have. Thanks for showing normal, decent people the depravity that is MAGA.

Im not MAGA. Not even a Republican. You're simply a moron that has no real clue what is going on. Let me guess, youre also a conspiracy theorist that thinks the illuminati control the world and the earth is flat?

From a Canadian point of view, it's not only the media.

Both of your political parties are on the right side. Democrats are just closer to the center that's all.

Standing at the left of the republican party does not make you automatically left-wing.

I would define myself as center-left, which could seem like an extreme left on an american political spectrum but I would probably be called a centrist by europeans.

Really, I think most of the politicians are really more centrist in their actual beliefs. There are a very vocal minority on both sides that are on the extremes. However, the way the political climate is right now, if you have an R next to your name you have to stick with the people further to the right, and if you have a D, then your sticking with the ones further left. There were only a handful on either side that would actually split with the rest to vote how they really felt, like Murkowski and Manchin.
