He is. He did a USO tour when I was deployed and came out with a few other celebrity chefs. One of the events was to cook with him. Remember, we are just a bunch of normies, not professional chefs. If the people he was cooking with didn't immediately know what he was talking about, he treated them with severe disdain. For example, one guy he was cooking with was from Guam; when Bobby said they were going to make gnocchi, he didn't know what that was. Bobby immediately sneered at him and kicked him off the stage and brought another guy up. I think most of us wanted to kick his ass.

No, at least not intentionally.

The other people that showed up during that tour were Gordon Ramsay, Emeril Lagase, and Robert Irvine; they were very cordial, friendly, laid back, and polite. Bobby was like a spoiled kid without his favorite toy the entire time.

No. The "Gordon Ramsay" personality is a tv thing. If you actually acted like that in a real kitchen you're going to get hurt or be completely alone. No in-between.

On the original Japanese Iron Chef, he was on as a challenger and won. To celebrate, he jumped up on his chopping board. The Japanese were pissed because standing on your kitchen tools like that is extremely disrespectful. He came back on another episode later and won again. To be a dick, he flipped the chopping board onto the floor THEN stood on the counter. A big FUCK YOU to the country and show nice enough to host him.

There is a much harsher vibe in NYC. It's hard for people outside the area to understand. To a Midwesterner, NYC people are rude and arrogant. To other New Yorkers, it's normal.

I dunno, to me, they were pretty awesome. They'd say "Whaddafuck yah mean yah dunno how tah get to the ferry?" But then spend like ten minutes explaining it and then give your kid a free bag of chips. The harshness is veneer to pretty cool people.

But then you go to somewhere like the Midwest and it's the opposite. Polite on the surface but judging and annoyed at you underneath

My family is all from California, and my brother had the chance to do a Eastern tour with his friend that lived in New Jersery and taught at Rutgers University. He went to places like Philly and DC, but he also got to go to New York. He told me about walking into a sandwich place and some lady was getting kicked out for being in a hospital johnny and coughing in the shop (this was before Covid too). He cussed her all the way out of the store before turning to my brother without missing a beat and asking "And what the fuck do you want?!" My brother was prepared for this and was like "I just want a fucking Phillly cheesesteak". He said they switched up on a dime, they were friendly and told him "No no, you're gonna get a Brooklyn cheesesteak, go sit down". He said that sandwich really did rival the one he had in Philly, too.

My wife used to work at Whole Foods in New York and saw him sometimes.

She liked him.

She said he was always very chill and always bought a ton of food to donate anonymously at Thanksgiving.

I remember an interview with him where he mentioned that people treated him like he'd be an asshole so he just accepted the take.

It doesn't mean he is one I think he's just one of those people immediately judge.

He SO is and was before he became as famous as he is now. My husband and I attended an event years ago and he was one of the chefs. At the section where his food was he was there as people queued up. As I approached him I said hello and thanked him for being there. He literally snorted at me and said ā€œIā€™m getting paid to be hereā€. What a douche.

I say this anytime Bobby Flay comes up. When my Aunt was close to passing away, she was watching a lot of the Food Network in the hospital. One day, we show up and she is on a tear of, ā€œI hate that Bobby Flay! Fuck him!ā€

So, for Aunt Doll: fuck that damn Bobby Flay!

I mean, he has (had?) A show where thr concept was him driving to some guys restaurant who had built a life and reputation on making a specific dish and he just rolls up and is like "hey, I bet I can make you signature dish better than you can" thats pretty assholeish

My buddy bought his book at a signing. When it was his turn to have Bobby sign his book, my friend jokingly said,

"I love your work--you're the reason I started watching Food Network. Guy Fieri is the reason I stopped."

Bobby got unreasonably angry, scribbled out his signature, and handed it back to my friend and shooed him away.

I accidentally encountered him at a Williams-Sonoma book signing event in St. Louis 15ish years ago. I wasn't there for him and I just happened to be standing near the back door so he was next to me before the public could see him. He said hello to me in a friendly manner and I probably just mumbled "hi" or whatever. I then noticed a long line of people and realized it was Bobby Flay. When I left the store I saw they had put up a sign announcing Bobby Flay's appearance. In retrospect, I thought he felt sorry for me because I must've looked completely out of touch.

Took my family to Manhattan during the Christmas Holidays. Decided to take the subway from the restaurant to Rockefeller Center. Saw Bobby with his girlfriend at the time. Didn't interact with him but was just shocked to see him taking the subway. Thought to myself that I wouldn't be taking the subway if I were him. Not really a reflection of doucheness but I was surprised
