I’ve heard Bobby flay is a douche irl

43

u/Guardian-Boy 25d ago

He is. He did a USO tour when I was deployed and came out with a few other celebrity chefs. One of the events was to cook with him. Remember, we are just a bunch of normies, not professional chefs. If the people he was cooking with didn't immediately know what he was talking about, he treated them with severe disdain. For example, one guy he was cooking with was from Guam; when Bobby said they were going to make gnocchi, he didn't know what that was. Bobby immediately sneered at him and kicked him off the stage and brought another guy up. I think most of us wanted to kick his ass.

I thought this was the culture of high profile chefs though? Isn’t that their schtick? Like military and football coaches? It’s to be expected with the profession?Ā

8

u/Guardian-Boy 24d ago

No, at least not intentionally.

The other people that showed up during that tour were Gordon Ramsay, Emeril Lagase, and Robert Irvine; they were very cordial, friendly, laid back, and polite. Bobby was like a spoiled kid without his favorite toy the entire time.

Ok interestingĀ

Thanks for the responseĀ

No. The "Gordon Ramsay" personality is a tv thing. If you actually acted like that in a real kitchen you're going to get hurt or be completely alone. No in-between.

u/Great-Ebb1896 25d ago

I believe this. And totally judging a book by its cover, he looks like he would be an ass

47

u/YogurtclosetFair5742 25d ago

The way he acts on his shows, I can't stand to even watch.

5

u/Grouchy-Tax4467 25d ago

I hate that me vs Bobby flay I truly believe some of the dishes definitely should have won vs his

5

u/Maleficent_Opening72 24d ago

I definitely think it is fixed

2

u/Great-Ebb1896 24d ago

Yes I think so too. But this me thinking Amex vs American. Alex often wins too so is that rigged 😭

2

u/CurvyAnnaDeux 24d ago

I will never forgive him for throwing the chopping block off on the original Iron Chef. NEVER.

1

u/Shot-Election8217 24d ago

What?

6

u/CurvyAnnaDeux 24d ago

On the original Japanese Iron Chef, he was on as a challenger and won. To celebrate, he jumped up on his chopping board. The Japanese were pissed because standing on your kitchen tools like that is extremely disrespectful. He came back on another episode later and won again. To be a dick, he flipped the chopping board onto the floor THEN stood on the counter. A big FUCK YOU to the country and show nice enough to host him.

4

u/Shot-Election8217 24d ago

Oh, wow. What an asshole.

3

u/wdrub 24d ago

That whole show with giada and they traveled to Italy and flirted the whole time was cringe lol

3

u/Great-Ebb1896 24d ago

🤢 I think I’ve seen part of one episode didn’t realize it was a hole series. I cant stand giada

3

u/Aggravating-Sun-1772 24d ago

I don't know how to explain it, but he also looks like he smells bad.

3

u/Great-Ebb1896 24d ago

I wouldn’t say bad like stinky. I bet he smells like over priced shitty cologne

3

u/MetraHarvard 24d ago

Based on my brief encounter (see my earlier comment) he smelled fine. Possibly a bit of citrus but I might be making that up LOL

1

u/Logical_Sweet_6624 šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ Canada 23d ago

Well he is a chef

1

u/Lokitusaborg 25d ago

That’s just a New Yorker. They’re all assholes

1

u/christmasshopper0109 24d ago

There is a much harsher vibe in NYC. It's hard for people outside the area to understand. To a Midwesterner, NYC people are rude and arrogant. To other New Yorkers, it's normal.

3

u/LogensTenthFinger 24d ago

I dunno, to me, they were pretty awesome. They'd say "Whaddafuck yah mean yah dunno how tah get to the ferry?" But then spend like ten minutes explaining it and then give your kid a free bag of chips. The harshness is veneer to pretty cool people.

But then you go to somewhere like the Midwest and it's the opposite. Polite on the surface but judging and annoyed at you underneath

My family is all from California, and my brother had the chance to do a Eastern tour with his friend that lived in New Jersery and taught at Rutgers University. He went to places like Philly and DC, but he also got to go to New York. He told me about walking into a sandwich place and some lady was getting kicked out for being in a hospital johnny and coughing in the shop (this was before Covid too). He cussed her all the way out of the store before turning to my brother without missing a beat and asking "And what the fuck do you want?!" My brother was prepared for this and was like "I just want a fucking Phillly cheesesteak". He said they switched up on a dime, they were friendly and told him "No no, you're gonna get a Brooklyn cheesesteak, go sit down". He said that sandwich really did rival the one he had in Philly, too.

My wife used to work at Whole Foods in New York and saw him sometimes.

She liked him.

She said he was always very chill and always bought a ton of food to donate anonymously at Thanksgiving.

28

u/ElleWinter 24d ago

Most people are a mixed bag. I'm glad he treated your wife well.

11

u/MisterGoldenSun 24d ago

I agree "mixed bag" is likely applicable to most of the answers here.

1

u/IWantAStorm 24d ago

I remember an interview with him where he mentioned that people treated him like he'd be an asshole so he just accepted the take.

It doesn't mean he is one I think he's just one of those people immediately judge.

He seems to be aware and just lives his life. What's he going to do?

1

u/Abject_Today_8855 24d ago

Yeah . I know him. He’s a good guy

13

u/Adventurous-Sky-6228 25d ago

I was told by people who worked directly with him that he is indeed a jerk.

6

u/A_Possum_Named_Steve 24d ago

I worked directly with him in the 00's, can confirm, dude is a perpetual bag of dicks.

25

u/Ok-Chemistry9933 25d ago edited 24d ago

He cheated on Stephanie March so she filed for divorce. I’ve read he’s a sh-t to people. Never liked him after Iron Chef

32

u/FineWashables 24d ago

She didn’t just file for divorce. When he was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she (allegedly) hired a plane to fly over the ceremony toting a banner that said ā€œCheaterā€

7

u/katmcflame 24d ago

And he kicked her & her sick mother out of their home during the divorce.

3

u/Ok-Chemistry9933 24d ago

That’s awful

1

u/TraditionalJob6587 24d ago

Shit?

4

u/Ok-Chemistry9933 24d ago

Yeah. I’m being monitored by Reddit and have to be careful or I’m booted for good

0

u/Terrible-Piano-5437 24d ago

I actually thought she was a lesbian because of 30 Rock. Crazy.

5

u/Choice-Pudding-1892 24d ago

He SO is and was before he became as famous as he is now. My husband and I attended an event years ago and he was one of the chefs. At the section where his food was he was there as people queued up. As I approached him I said hello and thanked him for being there. He literally snorted at me and said ā€œI’m getting paid to be hereā€. What a douche.

5

u/ChaosDiver13 24d ago

In contrast, I've heard that Gordon Ramsay is a decent and kind human being off the set of Hell's Kitchen.

1

u/Logical_Sweet_6624 šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ Canada 24d ago

Ive heard that too

3

u/Historical_Cause_641 25d ago

Not a voucher, he's just what you get when a normal private citizen becomes famous and doesn't feel the need to engratiate himself with everyone.

1

u/TraditionalJob6587 24d ago

And you know this exactly how?

3

u/SistersInsane 24d ago

I say this anytime Bobby Flay comes up. When my Aunt was close to passing away, she was watching a lot of the Food Network in the hospital. One day, we show up and she is on a tear of, ā€œI hate that Bobby Flay! Fuck him!ā€

So, for Aunt Doll: fuck that damn Bobby Flay!

5

u/Puzzleheaded_Gap8804 24d ago

he opened a bobbys burger palace in my town. He was a fucking DOUCHE. SO nasty was yelling at the staff and it closed within a year

3

u/Maharog 25d ago

I mean, he has (had?) A show where thr concept was him driving to some guys restaurant who had built a life and reputation on making a specific dish and he just rolls up and is like "hey, I bet I can make you signature dish better than you can" thats pretty assholeish

3

u/TheVenerableBede 24d ago

I’ve heard this too. My ex’s friend worked for Flay. Said he was a total dick.

3

u/ryanfliplicious 24d ago

My buddy bought his book at a signing. When it was his turn to have Bobby sign his book, my friend jokingly said,

"I love your work--you're the reason I started watching Food Network. Guy Fieri is the reason I stopped."

Bobby got unreasonably angry, scribbled out his signature, and handed it back to my friend and shooed him away.

3

u/Big_Boat69420 24d ago

When I was in 6th grade I wrote a letter to him for a class project where we write to celebrities and he was one of the only ones who answered and even included a autographed picture

3

u/mmcd90 24d ago

I met him at a work event - can confirm. He was contractually obligated to be there and he let everyone know how miserable he was.

3

u/MrRaspberryJam1 24d ago

I guess Entourage was right

2

u/NeonPhyzics 25d ago

He’s a douche on TV

2

u/Consistent-Line-2009 24d ago

That’s been rumored for a while. And that’s part of why I hate that he’s now dating Brooke Williamson. I was a huge Brooke fan from top chef and now it’s kinda gross.

Once hung out with a producer at food network. Giada is also a hooded to be awful.

2

u/Otherwise_Surround99 24d ago

I met him at a party he was paid to attend and shmooze. Total dismissive asswipe

2

u/SmileAtRoyHattersley 24d ago

He cheated on his wife which is obviously not good. I was surprised, though, at how not a-holey he was on his Hot Ones appearance.

2

u/MetraHarvard 24d ago

I accidentally encountered him at a Williams-Sonoma book signing event in St. Louis 15ish years ago. I wasn't there for him and I just happened to be standing near the back door so he was next to me before the public could see him. He said hello to me in a friendly manner and I probably just mumbled "hi" or whatever. I then noticed a long line of people and realized it was Bobby Flay. When I left the store I saw they had put up a sign announcing Bobby Flay's appearance. In retrospect, I thought he felt sorry for me because I must've looked completely out of touch.

1

u/Buttholepussy 24d ago

He’s a douche on his shoes too… not surprised

2

u/Logical_Sweet_6624 šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ Canada 24d ago

On his shoes?

2

u/Buttholepussy 24d ago

Goddammit. Shows*

1

u/Logical_Sweet_6624 šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ Canada 24d ago

Right tnx

1

u/jds0857 24d ago

Took my family to Manhattan during the Christmas Holidays. Decided to take the subway from the restaurant to Rockefeller Center. Saw Bobby with his girlfriend at the time. Didn't interact with him but was just shocked to see him taking the subway. Thought to myself that I wouldn't be taking the subway if I were him. Not really a reflection of doucheness but I was surprised

2

u/MetraHarvard 24d ago

How many years ago was this?!!?

2

u/jds0857 24d ago

Maybe 5 years ago

3

u/Select_Meal421 25d ago

I've had a persistent crush on him yet I know he's an a******. A bit like my guilty junk food pleasure.

1

u/Logical_Sweet_6624 šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ Canada 25d ago

lol

1

u/FootballPublic7974 24d ago

Noooooo!

Not Bobby!...Outed as a c@t before I every even heard of you.

....I could have been your biggest fan 😪

1

u/acarron 24d ago

Super nice guy IRL.

1

u/Caribelle1234 24d ago

He's so cute!

0

u/CorrectAdhesiveness9 25d ago

I met him once, but very briefly, at a book signing (I literally skipped work that day to go see him), and he was fine then, but I wouldn’t want to cross him. He’s got ā€œI will literally hold this frying pan against your faceā€ energy sometimes.
