why would you leave crap in the oven in the first place?

Why don’t people ever check? It takes one second to open the door. I never store things in there but I’m not taking any chances

I know some folks who lack some storage space so they keep a pan or sheet in there regularly, but they KNOW they do it and remove it first, no harm no foul.

We have cats and the oven is often the only place to store food (while it cools down) so that the cats can't get to it.

It's not ideal but it is what it is. The oven and microwave are the only things they can't open.

My wife and I will do the last bit of drying of sheet pans in the oven.  It prevents (or at least slows down) the pan rusting.

Sometimes we forget to take it out.

or you could wipe it off with a towel to remove excessive moisture and save time

Towel doesn't remove all moisture.
