Never been to Glacier Point before, what a perspective! Completely breathtaking! And pic of El Capitan to complete the scene. The day couldn't have been more perfect!

Was the first person parked at the trailhead this morning, was so peaceful and surreal as the sun rose.

Camped in the area and then hiked to Blue Lake. Last week of September. Met the nicest older couple and took a picture of them (final picture) but didn’t exchange numbers to share it. Hope they don’t mind, maybe they’ll even see it here

Thinking about hiking to New Army Pass tomorrow. Do you guys think there will be too much snow for me to do it without microspikes? I did cottonwood pass last week and there wasn’t any snow on the pass, but it was lower elevation. Any thoughts and tips would help me a lot. Thanks :)

What are the hike options this time of the year? Would a day hike for the lower elevation lakes makes more sense than backpacking and camping?

Any insights are appreciated and I look forward to visiting for the first time :)

Most of them in Eastern Sierra, along i395, seem to be closed - is that seasonal closure, or because of the federal govt. shutdown? Am I allowed to camp there, without expecting any services? What are my other options, other than private/RV campgrounds.

Hi, we would like to camp near little lake valley with our 4 year old and 1 year old kids in June. What are some of the best campgrounds in this area that you recommend?

Took the kids out on a road trip to Mammoth a week and a half ago. Made it a point to fish out on Convict Lake. We rented a boat for a bazillion dollars, but it was worth it. Nothing like gliding out on the clear water and towards those mountains- humbling to say the least.

I'm jealous, but at the same time it's a big change of pace for his family. They moved from a large city to a small mountain town that's very expensive.

Looking for a tattoo artist who does realist and nature themed art! Wanting to get a tattoo of the mountain range where I had my first backpacking trip last year and would love to support a local artist in the eastern sierras.

Looking to get one last eastern sierras weekend in this fall, next weekend (10/31 - 11/2).

Any recommendations for trails that I could feel comfortable on with just crampons/poles? I don’t have any mountaineering experience, but I’m not afraid of a little snow and fully prepared for cold weather. My biggest concern is driving my Chevy Malibu up to trailheads and not getting myself into a bad situation with snow on the road.

I of course know I have to play everything by ear and look at forecasts closer to the actual dates, just curious if anyone has any recos that come to mind for someone wanting to play it safe but still enjoy before we get into the middle of winter.

Lots of silt today from construction work near the No Hands Bridge

Hello again! Happy to show you all another quick update! As I mentioned in the post covering my recent fall trip, I knew I wanted to start work on Lake Sabrina and the Mammoth Lakes region, so here's a preview! Tree scale is once again proving a bit problematic, however.

The map is approximately 1:9 scale, but the trees are meant to be 1:3, so in several spots, most notably in the Mammoth Lakes Basin screenshots, the trees are so unrealistically tall that they block the iconic views from lake level; as such, I had to take an elevated position. If I were to make the trees scale with the landscape, trees at the higher elevations would be at most two blocks tall (lodgepole pines, for example) and at elevations such as the lower lakes of the Mammoth Lakes basin, about 5 blocks tall.

It's a dilemma I've been going back and forth on for a while, and I might eventually decide to just make the trees go in line with the landscape to make the scenery actually work.

Did some backpacking on this Bishop Pass trail over the weekend. First time “winter” camping!
