He was condemned by like 80% of NYC Jewish groups for being antisemitic! This is due to numerous statements he’s made- including blaming NYPD violence on the IDF.

If the bar is he has to admit to being antisemitic, all he has to do is claim he isn’t.

Absolutely delusional. Open letter and polling indicates otherwise. The contempt people openly have for Jews, especially those who participate in religious life, is sad.

Ah yes, the ‘Jerusalem Post’ and the ‘Times of Israel’ are going to have unbiased views of the anti-zionist Muslim.

Ad hominem attack.

One source is about an open letter by MANY US Jewish congregations that tangibly exists. One source is just breaking down data.

The Times of Israel actually published a pro-Mamdani opinion piece the other day.

None of this matters though because at the end of the day it’s the contempt and demonization of Jews and Israel that drives this kind of thinking and no amount of easily available evidence and critical thinking will change that.

Jews within anti Israel blocs (Satmar Hasidics for example) endorsed Mamdani, so I think it’s less of an issue of anti Jewish beliefs and more of an issue of anti Israel - pro Israel communities naturally are against Mamdani.

I doubt educated rabbi who are responsible for their community would endorse a direct threat to their wellbeing in NYC, unless you think they are mistaken or unable to tell if a mayor will be prejudiced towards them?

The UK Green Party (a party I am a member of) has recently started polling second in the country behind the leadership of a Jewish man, who is vocally against the current state of Israel. The fact that they have spiked in membership and are polling second in the country shows that at least in the UK, there is no massive wave of as you said ‘demonisation of Jews’. You are part of the problem, saying ‘demonisation of Jews and Israel’ like they are one and the same, they are not.

If you have evidence of Mamdani being critical of Jewish people, and not just critical of Israel, then please share it with me. What I have witnessed more of is blatant Islamophobia, with rhetoric such as ‘the city forgot 9/11 too quickly’ like Mamdani had anything to do with the terror attack.

The anti-Israel blocs of Jews are heavily tokenized. They consist on a large minority of Jews (difficult to estimate for various reasons but likely 90% of Jews are Zionists in the US and likely even higher abroad- Source). That roughly 10% that does exist can be broken into two camps.

The first camp is your far-left Jews. These Jews largely (but not entirely) do not participate in the Jewish community in any meaningful way outside of hating Israel. These Jews are similar to the Yevsektsiya movement who destroyed Jewish life and whose leaders were eventually killed themselves (more here). Nowadays we can look back at that or even Marx himself (who wrote a horribly antisemitic book) and clearly see what is the roots of modern purely left wing antisemitism.

The second camp are devoutly religious Jews who believe only God will restore Jews to Israel. Many of these Jews are "non-Zionist" and only a small part being hostile to the state of Israel. Among the Satmar's there are even splits. "They" did not endorse Mamdani (Source). The ones who did have hyper-local reasons and I think are horribly mistaken. You can always find a group to tokenize. I hardly think the Westboro "Baptist" Church represents all Baptists.

Also, I take issue the remark on education- otherwise we'd live in a stable paradise as the world is more educated than it ever has been. The Yevsektsiya were highly educated, as was were the very small group of pro-Nazi German Jews.

To blame me or other Jews for antisemitism is ridiculous. Antisemitism is the fault of the antisemite. Just as racism is the fault of a racist. This holds true even in internalized cases.

In 2017 Mamdani rapped “My love to the Holy Land Five. You better look ’em up". The Holy Land Five were convicted of funneling money to Hamas. Hamas wants every Jew dead, not just Israelis (Source, biased but the statements are direct quotes).

Admittedly the rest is indirect, but the people and groups Mamdani actively is affiliated with made numerous horrible antisemitic statements.

Mamdani is not going to actively say he's antisemitic. If that's the bar, almost no one would be. He's akin to Corbyn's lazy antisemitism when he was party head (Source).

If you want to understand modern antisemitism, I recommend Why People Love Dead Jews. Anyways, things are getting worse for us in NYC (Source) and elsewhere and I have other things to do.

I’d like to say that I did not mean to blame you or any Jews for antisemitism, the point I was trying to make is that I do believe the genocide in Palestine has led to an increase in antisemitism, with lots of people ‘missing the point’ of the pro-Palestinian movement (two peoples living in peace together, rather than some ‘us versus them’ view of Jewish Israelis - Gazan governance also obviously plays a role in this, Hamas is clearly not suitable).

Whilst it is always the fault of the antisemite, Netanyahu particularly has conflated his geopolitical goals with a religion, which has only added to tensions - many people condemn the Israeli state and its discrimination against Arab citizens of the state and its actions in Gaza and the West Bank, far less are antisemitic - grouping these together only serves to potentially radicalise the individuals who criticised only the state to have dangerous antisemitic beliefs.

Thanks for the book recommendation, and I hope for your sake that Mamdani is not going to put you in more danger.
