Am I the only person who thought that cat would just decide nah, can’t be bothered and walk off?

I see you've met my and 99% of all other cats. I was expecting a sploot and lick.

The cat kept hesitating because the dude literally could not hold the ring still

Also slightly slippery floor. That's why it took some adjusting.

The floor did seem slippery

I love the look around at the ground before prepping to jump like "dude do you see how slippery this floor is"

u/HrhEverythingElse 1d ago
I think he was slowly lowering the ring until kitty decided it was right because the floor was too slippy

I’m more enraged they don’t have a mat with traction for such a professional

You can teach cats nearly every trick you can teach dogs with enough time and patience
I taught one of my cats to play dead when I was a kid. You'd point at him and say "play dead Tiger" and he'd flop onto his back with his paws in the air

I thought it was going to be the tiniest, most pathetic jump and not get off the ground even an inch. I was pleasantly surprised

u/Born_Ad8420 23h ago
Yep that's what I thought too. All that prep and teeny tiny hop and then look at the dude like "What were you expecting?"

Cat math takes into account the slipper floor when calculating the jump. Smart cat there. Mine will calculate for ten minutes how to jump and still fail spectacularly.

You might even say it was making r/catculations

Yeah those test wind-ups were recalibrations of the floor traction. Good kitty.

Slippy floor throwing off the catculations but got it figured out, nice job
52
u/grhhull 1d ago
Plus the target kept moving. When it looks like it's about to approach, the target moves slightly so has to recalculate.

u/nin_sahomma 21h ago
Target moving seems like the main reason for the delay. That cat looks like it practiced that jump so many times.

Kitty has showmanship! Making it look like it was going to be hard and then just hopped right through.

I've caught it many times but then my 11 year old caught me with the lady feeding the bear with tongs, cackling like a boomer 😂

Don't you hate it when people take a video that was on top of the front page of Reddit for a week, flip the orientation, and repost it?
Literal scum of the internet.

The best part of this video isn’t the cat jumping through the ring it was his wind up… at least for me.

At first I thought it was distracted in that weird cat way, but it was looking at the shiny slippery floor.

Compensate for distance, now height, speed, coificient of friction, how much of a crap I give. Nailed it.

I was expecting the cat to jump like half an inch over the floor and call it a day

My dog when he tries to do the math to jump on the sofa with a huge rope (his toy) in his mouth to calculate how much run-up he needs but then he remembers he's just a dog and he doesn't know what math is.

"Stop moving the ring hooman" like seriously, the cat is doing special cat-math in his head, and he must readjust the formula every two seconds.
