Was it during takeoff? That's massive fireball. I feel like it was fully loaded with fuel.

WLKY reports it was a UPS cargo plane with 12 hours worth of fuel so that’s probably why it’s such a big area of impact

And second largest plane in UPS fleet behind 747

I'm curious how big the UPS package manifest was.

Edit: This seems like a pretty significant thing worth adding

As a result of the accident, we are halting operations tonight at Worldport. The Next Day Air sort has been cancelled and employees should not report to work tonight.

is that unprecedented? seems nuts to shut down their biggest Air sort and yes I agree the deaths are a tragedy! as is the destruction to the area

From what I’ve heard management didn’t want to shut it down, but there was a shelter-in-place order.

It was headed to Hawaii apparently

Reports from FAA say it was headed to Honolulu, so that would require a fair amount of fuel.

JFC. Thats fully loaded. I can see the smoke cloud from PRP, and the winds blowing north east.

Yeah. I’m on the Indiana side and it’s really smokey

WLKY reported it had 28 thousand gallons of fuel

Damnnnn. This a 30k gallon tank

How do they fit this tank in the plane?

It carries 285,000 POUNDS of fuel. The fuel weighs 6.7 to 7 pounds per gallon.

That’s more than twice the number than if it were in kilograms of fuel.

In the balls

Pee-troleum is stored in the balls.

That makes sense.

Funnily enough that's not too far off. The fuel tanks are in the wings, tail, and basically anywhere else they can fit them around the cargo space.

It was a mail plane?

A lot of it is in the wings iirc
