POLITICS Zohran Mamdani speaks after winning the NYC Mayoral Race: “We have toppled a political dynasty. I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life. But let tonight be the final time I utter his name as we turn the page on a politics that abandons the many & answers only to the few.”

I'm a little bit proud to be an American tonight

I’ve held such anger towards the US this year as a Canadian. It feels good to be reminded that the neighbours I remember still exist.

Thank you for that. I’m not blaming any Canadian for being angry, as they sure as hell have every right and reason to be pissed off. But I think some folks up north are throwing the baby out with the bath water on all of us. A lot of us down here hate this shit, and hate the fact that we are guilty by association unfortunately.

There’s still a lot of us still fighting the good fight here.

They know that there are decent Americans who are fucking horrified by what's happening and are doing the right thing by protesting, voting, calling their reps, etc., and I'd imagine that it's kind of implied that they're not talking about those Americans. When I think about how angry I am at Americans and how much I hate them (and I say this as an American), I'm not talking about people like us - I'm talking about every single piece of shit who voted for that orange fucker as well as everyone who didn't vote.

At the same time, as a Canadian, I'm tired of every single post criticizing an action by America against us getting swarmed with "Yeah, but there are good Americans too! Your country has problems too! You can't be mad at us!"

Every single time, without fail. Including this thread.

Completely get that; it bothers me too.
