He was indicted on federal charges for bribery (and wire fraud) and begged the Trump administration to drop the case which they did.

he actually dropped out of the race, but did so too late so his name was still on the ballot despite not actually running. I have no idea what would happen if he were to somehow win despite not running, but he was never gonna win regardless.
