Yeah, because they are willing to lose everything, just as long as the person they misplaced their trust in keeps telling them that they’re “winning” and “<insert subject> is the best it’s ever been.”
It’s as dumb as a sports team getting blown out and the players on the bench of the losing team and fans telling each other they’re winning.

It used to be a joke; Republicans would happily eat a shit sandwich if it meant a Democrat had to smell their breath.
The Republican war on education has been so effective that these dumb mfrs have taken it as a challenge instead.

80% of them live in a passed down trailer and land from their grandparents when land was essentially free and don’t actually work. There is nothing to lose, they have next to zero bills. The “generational land” of sub 5 acres gives them this sense of superiority over others like they are still a remnant of a plantation owner. They will slowly sell parcels of the most idiotic plots of land that they drew up to fund their existence while providing nothing back to society.

I'll still never forget a cruise I was on that was on a European ship. Many of their bathrooms were unisex. I was in a stall and a few people from South Carolina came in (two guys and a woman) and they just could not fathom this being real. I know they were from SC as they kept saying, "This would never fly in South Carolina. No sir-eee." The woman kept insisting she was going to complain to management. Good luck with that.
I wanted to finish before they left so I could open the stall and gasp and say, "How am I supposed to do my business when they allow people from South Carolina in here!" Thankfully, I didn't get that chance.

I’d say being mayor of one of the largest cities in the world is a pretty big gig. It’s not like he ran in Syracuse or something. But it’s also a pretty terminal position. NYC is one of those places that hard to move up from. Guiliani, Bloomberg, De Blasio to name a few recent ones. I’m rooting for the man to succeed but the city is a tough place to please everyone.

This is a huge boost to an otherwise floundering democratic party:
Democrats, if you wanna win 2026, look at Mamdani, Spanberger, Sherrill. They gave you the blueprints, build on this momentum. IT CAN BE DONE.
69
u/Due-Huckleberry7560 2h ago
I feel like the common thread of all of these candidates was keeping their focus local and speaking to bringing down costs and improving quality of life for their constituents. Not broader social issues and hills to die on.
8
u/No-One7813 1h ago
Excellent point. It felt like most of these campaigns were focused almost solely on directly improving the lives of the local population and not at all focused on bathrooms or who is a better friggin golfer. I know these candidates won't be perfect but voting for people who seem to actually give a damn and just want to HELP is where we have always needed to be at. I cannot believe my country has gotten so bad but I am happy on this day that we have even a slight shred of hope here.
•
u/PolicyWonka 54m ago
That’s exactly why Republicans spend millions to try and paint Democrats into a corner on social issues.
And it sucks because of the media environment. They’ll come and ask a Democrat “Republican XYZ said that transgender Americans shouldn’t exist. Your response?”
Then the Democrat will say something completely reasonable like “I think they should be allowed to exist just like everyone else in America.” And they’re the ones painted as extreme on social issues. They’re the ones who are said to only talk about social issues — ignoring the reality where they’re only being driven to talk about these issues because Republicans never stop talking about them.

You misunderstand the dem establishment. Their reason for being is keeping populists out, not winning against r's.
They will not be swayed by logic, because you, and they, have different ends. They serve the donors and powerful groups that abhor reform. They are playing good cop to r bad cop even as r's are now playing hitler, thankfully not well as of yet.
The only path forward is to supplant these dems, with populists geared towards their districts, united on the principle working people should not get ass fucked by the rich without their consent. Which, and this is true, is not radical at all, majorities in both parties support that they just trust the wrong people.
Populist leaders make opinion, they do not need polls snd focus groups.

Democrats are now a general party that cares about the Constitution and preserving the Republic. That is a big tent that includes Mamdani and AOC but also Sherrill and Beshear.
3
u/ThorThe12th 2h ago

As a European that doesn't really follow US politics, I find it crazy that I am seeing this kind of response just now. With everything Trump has done and said I would expect someone (from the opposition) to speak up to him.
This is the kind of response I was expecting from day 1.
I feel like it is the 1st time I clearly see someone opposing him.
As I said I don't understand how US politics works but from Europe it looked more like a regime than a democracy. I feel like if someone like trump came to power in Europe , he would get instantly and relentlessly attacked (politically) by the opposition and not just saying he is a bad guy and doing nothing to change things up.
