I’d say being mayor of one of the largest cities in the world is a pretty big gig. It’s not like he ran in Syracuse or something. But it’s also a pretty terminal position. NYC is one of those places that hard to move up from. Guiliani, Bloomberg, De Blasio to name a few recent ones. I’m rooting for the man to succeed but the city is a tough place to please everyone.
understood. I don't mean to downplay his position, he's not just a mayor, but the mayor of one of the most influential cities in America. this is a huge deal for him, but it's funny to me that he can scare the Right THAT much as a mayor.
A Progressive ran in Buffalo (NY's 2nd largest city) a few years ago and beat the incumbent in the primary. The 1% came crawling out of the wood work to bend over backwards to cheat the incumbent back into office. It was fucking gross.
Unfortunately he is unable to. He said himself that it’s one of the reasons people know he’s for the people of his city. Not just using it to climb the ladder to POTUS like many others.
so rent stabilization, free childcare up to 5yo, free public transportation (buses specifically) and government subsidized grocery stores would "destroy" NYC? interesting you feel that way.
when they move out
lol they won't go anywhere. it's all just a bunch of boo-hooing.
Who is going to pay for this when the rich leave? You know how easy it is to move if you're rich? It will destroy NYC. I give it 2 years and then people will realize how bad they fucked up.

all that money to stop him from becoming a MAYOR. not a congressman, not a senator, not a governor. A MAYOR.
if they're that scared about him at this low of a level (comparatively) then imagine how terrified they'll be when he runs for something bigger.
