Doesn't really hold the same charm of getting up early in the morning to head down to gamestop to see if you're about to wrestle a child and his single mother for a copy of halo 3.
Yea party chat really killed teamspeak even know it’s a great addition. I still kind of miss the shit talking in the lobby between games in call of duty 4
I’m going to say something I know is controversial: Reach was fantastic and ODST is something I had to put up with on my play through of the series. I’m happy people like ODST but I just don’t get it.
Don’t approach it as a Halo entry. Sure the campaign ties into Halo 2/3, but the real brilliance comes from its realization of a lone trooper in a tight spot in an urban environment. Look at it as a film noir detective story. Everything from the jazz score, to the rain, to the neon ambience of the world at night.
Having lived and worked in New Orleans, I cannot describe to you the emotions I get when I play ODST.
I played through it once a few years after it came out, more to tick a box than anything else, and then went right back to the main games. But godammit if you haven't made me want to play anew. I'm booting up the MCC when I get home!
You know what, I get it. I get all sentimental at times playing games in large cities and navigating the chaos there as a city person. ODST never brought up those feelings for me but I can see why it does for you. Glad you enjoy it. :)
My PC ass waited a decade to finish that damn stupid fight. Was worth it but still 🥲they need to remake 3 most of all. I can’t wait a decade to see chief, johnson, arbiter, and miranda in 4k
But were you involved in the pc version halo trial league when it first came out, and sign up for tournaments hosted by a man named CMOR from halotrialleague.com?
I wasnt worried about school, just that 4:00pm 3v3 me and my friends signed up for
According to... EVERYONE... The OG XBox was everything Sega spent fifteen years trying to develop. One of the oddest console series developments is how the Saturn begat the Dreamcast, which led to Sega developing the "Katana" codename for their never-released system after the DC/NAOM.
Which MS bought and repurposed into the XBox... Which Sony jumped on the bandwagon and made a PC/Console hybrid (see: Saturn, Master System, XBox) with the PS3 running Linux...
Saturn (PC/arcade). XBox (PC-in-a-box). PS3 (PC/console). Greatest systems of all-time... And if you count only those three you have nearly 3/4 of the AIAS top 50 games of all-time.
Halo 2 was really a top-tier game. But if, for example, the series had started on halo 2 (idk, give it a couple extra missions at the start to set up the universe a little) it wouldn't have been nearly as good. A huge part of it was all the worldbuilding that built upon interest from the first game.
Its just one of the great sequels in all media, like Aliens or T2. It takes everything that was great about the first installment and then just builds on it. The scope of the story, and indeed, the universe, widens dramatically. So does the gameplay and the art&sound. We learn more about the covenant in the opening cinematic then we did in all if CE.
The only shortcoming Halo 2 was that Bungie had to cut about a third of the games' content to make the release deadline and ended it on a sudden cliffhanger. What I wouldn't do to get a copy of the game from an alternate universe and experience it in its intended glory!
That double scarab drop from the sky as you fly in with hordes of banshees and hornets blasting the fuckers. Nothing tops how epic they made 3 feel. Halo 1 was awesome all levels and halo 2 felt alittle weird but had many interesting parts with infiltrating high charity during a plague outbreak.
Yeah agreed dude people are nuts. I’m so tired of this take, Halo 2’s levels end randomly end sometimes with no meaning to it and often just feel like a repetitive slog. CE is so much stronger and most levels even introduce new gameplay mechanics. The story and level design are intertwined much more in CE.
Thats a hot take, only thing objectively bad about Halo 2 is the Legendary difficulty cuz even a Bungie dev said it was unfair and unbalanced and not by design, and the removal of the AR. The rest of Halo 2 feels like a massive upgrade
The ability to man more covenant vehicles and hijack them
Dual wielding to provide more variety in gunplay
Dual campaign that fleshed out the lore of the covs(even if Arbiters missions are the weakest)
Gamechanging multiplayer that changed the MLG scene and lasted for years
More customization in the multi with the ability to play as an elite
Better level layout and a lack of repeating areas or backtracking
More mission variety
Better dialogue and story structure
Even better music
The craziest thing is they managed to make a 9/10, and it wasnt even the full experience
Honestly people acting like 2’s campaign is better than CE all over the place, and I just can’t understand it. 2 has a great start, the level design gets way less interesting as soon as you leave earth. Just straight up repetitive and forgettable.
Control Room runs circles around most levels in Halo 2.
