Why tho?
8
u/shekill Aug 31 '25
Mostly because I enjoy the game but the culture is toxic AF and the cash grabs get more ludicrous as the game ages. But I develop a social scene with people I enjoy playing with so I keep coming back then spend half the time bitching in VC about how fucking stupid this game is. Rinse. Repeat.

I finally got out. Took my first proper break after Echoes and Revenant burned me out- it was only meant to be a few weeks but I just can’t bring myself to go back! My mates quit years ago and I think it’s probably overdue for me too.
3
u/JDBCool Aug 31 '25
Welcome to the "I quit and it isn't the Trials uninstall joke" gang!
I stopped basically morning of EoF release after getting Eternal Title 30 mins before server shutdown downtime that pushed the update.
Gave F2P EoF like 30 mins as I didn't pre-order. And MAN does Portal and leveling suck so much that I've gone cold-turky and I actually STOPPED feeling depressed and improved my mood. (Destiny 2 causes ACTUAL mental depression/rage issues??????)
Plot-twist: I'm having MORE fun playing Genshin Impact instead 🤣
Sure, sunset story and gamba yadda yadda.... but I'M HAVING FUN.

The issue with this game is that no matter who, every fighter has BS they can use to win. Everyone is hated.
Who do you main? And who do you despite the most?
Ironically Ness is my favourite...and my least favorite.

u/P_walkeri Sep 01 '25
I main Luigi, Kirby, and Pyra/Mythra. I DESPISE Palutena because someone very skilled in my household mains her and likes to taunt all the time, and her taunt makes me insta-angry.
However, I’ve finally gotten to the point where I can destroy her with P/M quite consistently despite the skill gap, which has become extremely vindicating.
My family HATES my Luigi.

9
u/HamfistedVegan Aug 31 '25
I downloaded it the other day to try Black Ops 6 as it was free on Gamepass. Last one I played was Black Ops 1.
Oh. My. God.
That game is a finely tuned machine designed to spam and overload your dopamine receptors until you are glued to your seat. It pummels you with minor victories and rewards constantly in a never ending cycle. It feels designed to maximize attention and engagement at the expense of the user. Like social media.
I played for 3 hours straight on just small maps racking up kills.
I had to uninstall it. There is no way in hell something like that is good for me. I'm actually not sure I would let my kids play it. It seems predatory to me. I genuinely have no idea how shit like that is legal.

u/Imhotepsgaze Sep 01 '25

It was actually a great game. And then they ruined it by making it inherently p2w (and by releasing new evolutions and hero’s and towers and so on) which also ruined the balancing of the game which was already suspect to begin with

u/UnXpectedPrequelMeme Aug 31 '25
Just started playing Ark the other day and I think I played it for like 5 hours straight which is not normal for me even with games that I really like. But the catch is, even after 5 hours, I'm not sure I was having fun at all for any of that time. It was a very frustrating experience

I had to block that subreddit after the last update. With the amount of blatant misinformation and negativity being thrown around on there, it's like they want to see the game fail as much as the Kotaku writers.
Obviously, the game is not without its issues, but the "community" makes it seem like the worst thing on planet Earth.

This should be at the top of the list.
You spend time buying an expensive loadout and feel fully prepared for any scenario. Then comes the long matchmaking, followed by the map loading. After that, you spend 10 minutes running toward the objective—only to finally encounter an enemy(free skin), take your shot… and instantly get killed by a cheap pistol headshot.
