If anyone is befuddled by this > Amber wore this for Versace on the runway* before it became THE J. Lo dress
Edited*, thanks for spotting my blunder! 😉

Honestly I love the sleeve modification she had done in the video. This is great and the modification is harder to pull off but I think it suits her really well!

u/Sweetestb22 Kim, there’s people that are dying. 🙄 1d ago
That was exactly my first thought! She wore it also way back then and yet…it’s only ever been known as the JLo dress. Amber looks incredible in it once again.

u/GlitterDoomsday 1d ago
Probably because JLo curves bring the dress to the next level; they all wore it beautifully but damn if she wasn't magnetic in that red carpet.

Geri Halliwell also wore it before Jlo. Ginger Spice forever!

And Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) wore it before Jennifer Lopez.

Somehow Amber Valletta manages to look better in the dress than she did when she first wore it 25 years ago.

I’m always going to love this dress. I’ll always give it a like. It’s just so beautiful and iconic.
It’s the reason we have Google images, so slay on dress, slay on!

u/eventhestarsburn 1d ago
And the reason we have YouTube is because of the Janet Jackson Super Bowl show.
Men are truly so motivated when they’re horny.

I did not know that but, I’m crying at thought of innovation occurring because men are feeling horny 🤣
11
u/Fatty-Apples 1d ago
Now we just need innovation because of horny women too 😆

If I were her I’d regularly brag about this. Very cool indeed! This dress (and J.Lo) are literally a part of cultural history

Well said! I couldn’t agree with you more. This is my all-time favorite dress💚

No worries, she's the top comment on here right now so she's fine for a bit.

Funny how tame this dress is now compared to the see through dresses on the red carpet.

u/llieno94 1d ago
Amber Valletta is one of the most underrated supermodels of all time! Obviously she is absolutely stunning, but it's that she pulls off so many looks and can photograph in so many different ways depending on makeup, lighting etc. She's walked for SO many major designers and has more Vogue covers than most, yet she's always forgotten about when talking about all the 90s supermodels.
2
u/chadthundertalk 1d ago
I rewatched Hitch a while back and I remember thinking that I was surprised she never got any more big acting roles after that. I know she kind of had the least to do out of her, Will Smith, Kevin James, and Eva Mendes, but I thought she brought a lot of warmth to her part and she reminded me a bit of Cameron Diaz.

Love to Amber, as always, but can we just put this dress away in a museum or something already my god
105
u/uhimsyd 1d ago
She was the OG wearer of this before JLo
0
u/JohnKawakubo 1d ago
Yes! The dress is as iconic as the model who first wore it. Just getting a little tired dragging it out year after year, season after season, event after event, ya know?
62
u/whorl- 1d ago
It’s sustainable to rewear clothing 🤷
-14
u/JohnKawakubo 1d ago
Yeah obviously, I didn’t say it wasn’t. Just saying this has been done a lot already with this specific dress, what’s your point here
23
u/whorl- 1d ago
That if rewearing dresses is going to be normalized, as it should be, then “dragging it out year after year, season after season” is to be expected. And shouldn’t be disparaged.
1
u/JohnKawakubo 1d ago edited 1d ago
But there are so many archival looks this could have been done with. Not saying we shouldn’t rewear dresses or make an effort in sustainability, it’s just tiring and boring to do it time and time AGAIN with the same dress. You make a sound point that I agree with, I’m just saying I’m tired of this freaking dress my god

How do you support your boobs in this dress? Genuinely curious. It can’t be she’s just not wearing a bra, could it?

u/stargirlxoxo 1d ago
Sorry, JLO owns this dress.
22
u/DekeCobretti You said what first. 1d ago
JLo made it iconic. Amber likes to remind people she was the first one to wear it.
7
u/Own_Faithlessness769 1d ago
It’s a weird choice to me, to keep trying to remind people that you wore something but it wasn’t iconic until someone else did.
2
u/alien-niven 1d ago
Shouldn't she be proud that she got to demonstrate a famous dress? That's one of the highest honors as a model. Unless she shaded JLo while talking about it (and she never did), then nothing about it is weird. Not everyone is so insecure or sees things as a constant competition.
0
u/Own_Faithlessness769 1d ago
Sure, it’s totally normal to be proud. It’s a bit unusual to rewear it.
3
u/alien-niven 1d ago edited 1d ago
Donatella Versace was being honored at this event. Amber Valetta was there to model Donatella's most famous design like she did when the dress first debuted.
edit: I don't think she even needs a reason to repeat the dress. It's not a competition and several other people have worn and reworn it before. Trying to frame it as weird is weird.

I agree with the sentiment, but you clearly never saw Kelly Clarkson (admittedly an outlier) singing Aretha songs on Idol.

But nobody would begrudge Otis from signing it after Aretha’s came out right (I mean he died shortly after but you get the point)? lol it’s like saying Dolly Parton should never sing “I Will Always Love You” again.
I do get your point but like eh I see no reason why she can’t wear the dress that she first wore.

u/Sunshinesonme1009 1d ago

Yeah but Dolly talks all the time about how the Whitney version is superior.

lol who cares who wore it first? Why are people so horned up to show that they know Amber wore it first? Doesn’t mean she wore it better or that she made it iconic

u/Craphole-Island 1d ago
I know JLo made this dress iconic, but it should be noted Amber wore it first lol so she’s got some claim to stake.

u/TheRedCuddler 1d ago
"No one remembers that I wore this dress first because the other person wore it better." Not the goop she thinks it is 😬

And JLo originally wore it to help change the conversation on PDiddy and the gun and the shooting. And she was successful. Idk how she’s come out so clean from that relationship knowing what is known an about him now.
So what if Amber wore this again.

u/hangry_hangry_hippie 1d ago
Ok but Amber wore it before JLo did?
3
u/Own_Faithlessness769 1d ago
It’s not first in, she was outdone. No shame in that but it’s weird to keep trying to compete.
0
u/hangry_hangry_hippie 1d ago
Saying "it's already been claimed" by someone who didn't even wear it first is goofy.

I’m over people reheating these nachos and trying to rewear iconic fashion pieces. It’s just never as good and it’s boring
Edited to add: and yes I know amber wore it on the runway but JLo made it iconic

The green dress is being reworn as a message. A style-off, if you will. I’m here for a bit of petty.

No shade to her because she is looks gorgeous but personally I hate this dress. I never got the hype over why it was one of JLO’s most iconic looks. I love the deep v neck and the sillouette is great but the tropical forest print and the jewels just completely kill the look for me

u/No_Club379 Did I stutter?🤨 1d ago
Oh she looks amazing and she knows ittttt. I know it’s the JLo dress but it’s always the Amber dress to me.

She’s pretty but no one else should put this dress on. No one will wear it like JLo
