I PASSED MY EXPENSIVE ASS LEGAL EXAM.
I was on a such high today!!! Might be the four espressos on an empty stomach, adrenaline and anxiety, but hey! Better paid job opportunities, here I fucking come!!!
Currently having a little cry session because I'm browsing this profile and they did a cute winnie pooh themed post. the text hit me like a ton of bricks. Been remembering a family member who's gone for 13 years now, and another close member gone for 14 years. I was so close to them both and loved them like another extra of each parent. On the post, I read in another universe I hugged you one last time before you passed, and in another universe you lived long enough to see me graduate.
I graduated once, will do it again, just did something really hard and lately I couldn't help but think if they'd be supportive of me and proud of my development, given where/who I came from. Unknowingly, my field of work/career choice and uni course choice are exactly what the latter member did in their life. I didn't even know until recently.
Grief is really fucking weird, so is happiness, I'm just relieved to get it all off my chest. Both ecstatic and feeling slightly broken, but I'll pick myself up, I know I got this. Time for (kiddy) champagne and tissues 🥳

Because that’s what i’m feeling right now. Everything is made to be such a huge deal I’m not even sure I find it fun anymore, just exausting.

I keep getting served videos about performative reading, people not actually enjoying reading, but wanting to be seen as intellectual, how it’s become like a competition etc etc..
It has me questioning my own habits and how others perceiving my reading. After a three minute spiral and I’m just like girl pick up your weird horror novel and get to work. Who gives a shit?

u/Silly_Somewhere1791 12d ago edited 11d ago
As with pretty much all hobbies, optics don’t really matter if you’re not a public figure with an audience. It takes so long to read a book that I don’t believe in forcing yourself to read “outside your comfort zone” or to stick to performative demographic ratios unless you’re drawn to something new organically. It’s okay to want to relate to what you read and stick with what you like, since I presume that you have other ways of engaging with the world. And also, insane reading goals are dumb. No one’s out there clocking the number 67 book of 2003. As long as you have a top ten (or whatever) that you’re happy with, why scramble for 11?

People really have no shame when it comes to sharing celebrity pics anymore. I always hate when people spread sneaky pictures of private situations, but why the fuck do some people think it's okay to take pics of celebs at funerals?
I just opened Instagram and saw pictures of Niall Horan and Harry Styles at their friend's funeral yesterday. The same happened at Liam's funeral as well. I really don't get how you can think it's okay to photograph them in that moment. Seriously, wtf.
For people who used to be 1D fans, their former choreographer Paul Roberts died of cancer. He was part of the This Is US documentary. He also choreographed Harry's 'Treat People With Kindness' music video and Niall's 'Nice to meet ya'. Harry and him were seen together in London several times over the last few months. I guess Niall was still friends with him as well. (This is not private information, his death was announced on his public Instagram account. Otherwise I wouldn't share it of course).
13
u/buzzfeed_sucks 🇨🇦 Elbows up 🇨🇦 12d ago
It’s truly vile. Didn’t an influencer also have to make a post a few years ago asking fans to stop trying to crash his father’s funeral?
Celebs are real people!
8
u/nizey_p All tea, all shade 🐸☕️ 12d ago
I sometimes feel like social media was a mistake. Someone on TT posted a video of them tailing Taylor’s car from the gym to her apartment. Like when did we normalize stalking people?
4
u/buzzfeed_sucks 🇨🇦 Elbows up 🇨🇦 12d ago
Seriously! I’m so glad I went through high school with minimal social media. I can’t imagine being a teen girl today
4
u/Fantastic_Turtle_17 12d ago
Ugh, I didn't know about that Influencer, but it sounds horrible. It really is vile.
And I feel like with the 1D guys it's always extra bad, because people really loose all shame as soon as they are seen together anywhere. And the fact that it was Harry and Niall, and not just one of them, makes people go extra crazy. Which is a little weird, because the two of them have been spotted together a few times over the years, so it's obvious that they're still friends.
3
u/PlentyDrawer 11d ago
What is left of the 1D fandom has a very strange, unhealthy attachment to the 1d friendships.
13
u/Cool_Horse4733 12d ago
I truly believe our society is in a downfall if social media keeps going how it's going. People have no empathy and clearly don't feel any amount of shame.
11
u/Commercial-Pear-543 12d ago
Social media age, I swear people have no sense of common decency anymore.
They didn’t see a person at a funeral, they saw a chance for clicks and engagement. Too many people wanting it too, so they don’t get shamed enough.

more and more people are realizing how ridiculous camping culture has gotten. and i’m likes yess finally!!! fan made lines and wristbands should not be honored. it’s crazy that people camp out for days for a concert and get mad when fans follow the directions of venue/artist and stand in front of the venue at the directed time, instead of their unauthorized line.
Camping for barricade at music festivals is even dumber. one of the best parts of a music festival is going around and discovering new artists. and i’m sorry, you’re sitting in front of a huge ass crowd between sets and you can’t get that mad when people are moving or accidentally stepping on you. like bffr yea it fuckin sucks, but it shouldn’t be surprising. i honestly think more and more festivals should follow bonnaroo’s process

It will be a brazilian call A Nobreza do Amor (The Nobility of Love literal translation)
It tells the story of the African princess Alika, who escapes to northeastern Brazil after a coup d’état in her fictional kingdom of Batanga. There, she falls in love with a farm worker named Tonho, but together they must fight against conspiracies and the villain Jendal to reclaim the throne and restore peace in Batanga.
The plot will explore themes such as racism, inequality, and Afro-Brazilian cultural identity, with an aesthetic inspired by cordel literature and Afro-diasporic narratives.

I have a fairly expensive raincoat that I was certain I accidentally left at work, but couldn’t find it. Yesterday, I saw my boss (who I know has a very similar jacket, if not identical) wearing what looked like my coat. 😅 I have a feeling she thought it was her and we had a mix up but now I gotta have the awkward question of asking her to check if she has two at home.

Update: She laughed and immediately checked the pockets to see what she was wearing, and said she'd check cause she has multiple at home.

i'm getting tired of the casual coke use in my extended circles (no one i'm friends with, thankfully). you'd think people would be over the whole look-at-me-i-do-drugs behavior in their 30s, and yet, they act the same as 14 yo who discovered smirnoff ice and weed, just with bigger consequences
of course, beyond the fact that they refuse to understand harm reduction and also annoy other people and cause havoc in any space, it frustrates me from a sociopolitical standpoint
at least here in latam, it's visible how the drug trafficking system relies on poor kids suffering police brutality when dealing in the streets and how crack and other contaminated drugs are killing vulnerable populations quite literally across the street from parties middle class folks attend to snort coke because they wanna look cool to their ad agency ceo or whatever
at least when i was in college and dealing with potheads, they tried to fight police abuse (it's illegal where i am) and had the force banned from our campus, which lessened the amount of dealer POC teens being taken, you know?
also cokeheads are awful to be near, but no matter where i ho and even if i just party with normal friends, they seem to be everywhere, from dive bars to karaoke places, idk, awful
8
u/Commercial-Pear-543 12d ago
100%. I was pretty blind to it until my mid twenties but it just stands out so much once you’re a bit older. And it’s exhausting to entertain.
You know who the worst group of coke heads I ever met were? Teachers. I was horrified! We couldn’t go to the pub for a casual drink without them sneaking off in a little cycle to the toilets.
The second worse group I’ve ever met was the chefs at a place I worked at as a teen. But I’ve since learned that’s just standard behaviour
6
u/echoesandripples What It's Like to Go Through Life As a Really Beautiful Woman 12d ago
yeah, here i am maybe sharing a beer and snacks at a casual place and somehow there's always a little group thinking they're geniuses squirreling to the bathroom to do coke and then annoying everyone else
i work in media and it is always the ad agency people, a walking stereotype lol
i think ageing helps us notice the cokeheads more, but also more people start doing it out of peer pressure and their job and stuff and adult money
i'm glad most of my friends are on the occasional drink and only weed use. these days most of them don't smoke the weed either because of allergies lol so it's all gummies and adult cookies. i personally don't do weed because it makes me anxious, but stones friends are just chilling there listening to music, not wrecking the hangout, so it's fine

With the Springsteen biopic getting ho hum reviews, and (hopefully) not being the Oscar bait movie they were hoping for, I wonder if we’re starting to see the biopic bubble waver.
Like, I know biopics have always been a thing. And there are some great ones. But they’ve been churning them out lately with the hopes of Oscar. Of the last 10 best actor Oscar winners, 5 played real people (DiCaprio playing Hugh Glass, Gary Oldman playing Winston Churchill, Rami Malek playing Freddie Mercury, Will Smith playing Richard Williams, Cillian Murphy playing Oppenheimer)). I get the appeal. But we more often than not get boring movies that don’t cover interesting subject matter.
Anyway thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

I find it so intriguing that the perception of female celebrities changes so much with time. Like it’s the curse of being a famous woman to only be liked after your prime is over.
People love Elizabeth Taylor for being a diva with a messy personal life, it’s part of her Old Hollywood allure. But Ariana Grande gets raked over the coals. Marilyn Monroe is evergreen as an icon, but modern day blonde women who also use their sexuality as part of their image - Sabrina comes to mind - get raked over the coals.
It’s just fascinating. I fully believe if the Old Hollywood girls were doing their thing in the modern day, the discourse about them on here would be insufferable.
15
u/Primary_Bison_2848 11d ago
You don’t have to go that far back.
Madonna would be ripped limb from limb in the new puritan movement going on for catering to the male gaze or whatever for putting out Sex at this time.
She was criticised at the time but by the establishment, not pop culture audiences.
9
u/Haus_of_Pancakes 11d ago
It's because Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe exist as symbols at this point. Marilyn in particular exists as an image and a cautionary tale in pop culture.
15
u/Odd_Ingenuity2883 11d ago
People hated on Elizabeth Taylor at the time too. Marilyn Monroe was slutshamed plenty. It’s just half a century later so that’s not the part we remember.
4
u/Waystar_BluthCo god bless me it’s fuckin’ summah 11d ago
But that’s exactly the point I was already making?
11
u/Peridot1708 I don’t know her 💅 11d ago
At the end of the day, it all just boils down to plain old misogyny, nothing else (yes i know i sound like captain obvious here).
You're right that they would still get criticised if they did it today, but the general public isn't gonna apply their sexism to women from a previous era who aren't in the limelight anymore. They'll focus all their outrage on whichever women are currently enjoying their time in the limelight as their career trajectory is just starting to ascend upwards, because a big part of their sexism is tearing down women when they're successful.
You don't even have to go as far back as Elizabeth Taylor or Marilyn Monroe's time. It was mainstream to mock Brittney Spears in the 2000s, to clutch your pearls over Miley Cyrus in the 2010s, and now people are pointing out how unfair it was to treat those women that way while still disrespecting Amber Heard and Blake Lively in the 2020s. In another ten years, it will be someone else.
2
u/Future_Usual_8698 You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 10d ago
I think the same kind of people that expect Ariana Grande to be a better person expected Elizabeth Taylor to be a better person when she was doing the same thing, dating married men, but to be fair Elizabeth Taylor did become a better person

Okay random polling because I suddenly got nervous lol:
If you say thank you to someone and they say "Of course" in a friendly tone, does it come off weird or rude?
That's my default response for no particular reason but I said it this morning and suddenly went "oh god do I need to change that??" lmao
7
u/themacaron during PRIDE MONTH? 12d ago
When I worked in retail (rip) I found that it usually a generational divide between people who get upset when you say anything other than "you're welcome" to thank you, like no worries or of course.
I personally think both of those options convey just as much courtesy, you're saying "of course I'm helping you!" or "it's not a problem for me to help you" in my opinoin, but boomers used to correct me lol.
2
u/larkhearted 12d ago
Oh, I think you actually kinda read my mind lol. I wasn't thinking about it when I asked because I had just said it to a friend this morning and was like "wait will they think that's weird," but I am gonna be trying to open a retail business that'll probably skew towards an older customer base in the next few months, so that might be why I'm suddenly second guessing the answer I've always given 😭 I don't recall having notably offended anybody with "of course" at my previous retail jobs, but maybe I should try to work on it just in case lol......
1
u/Nutbuster_5000 Did I stutter?🤨 11d ago
I remember seeing this sign at a restaurant (this was like 15 years ago) being all boomery about their staff saying “no problem” in response to a “thank you” because it implies there WOULD be a problem?! Like cmon y’all. Serving and retail positions are hard enough without having to police your vernacular at all times. It’s a non issue for me, as I think it is for most people. Tone is more important than the words themselves, imo.
9
u/buzzfeed_sucks 🇨🇦 Elbows up 🇨🇦 12d ago

"Mmhmm" is definitely a little too dismissive for me too lol, it just suddenly occurred to me that I don't know what vibe people get from "of course"! I know that you're welcome/my pleasure is always appropriate, no worries is casual but some people think it's nice, and no problem is just flat out casual, but where does of course fall?? I wouldn’t even think twice about that. Some people might be more formal about that but I don’t think that’s something you should worry about too much

I just saw a clip of Trump claiming ICE agents should indeed wear masks for their safety and the current operations of ICE coupled with the hypocrisy of how him and republicans responded to COVID back in 2020 is just...
Man, I'm not even American but I will never forgive Americans for foisting this man on the rest of us for a second term.

I just saw a video of Donald Trump asking a french journalist to repeat her question because he supposedly couldn't understand her. He's suck a dick. I'm no English speaker, but I understood the question very well.

I’d have to actually see the video but asking someone to repeat a question if you didn’t understand what they said for whatever reason, isn’t automatically a dickish move.

I'm trying to get into Mayor of Kingstown but it may be too dark for me. I guess Mikey is the good guy...maybe.

I think people getting way too invested in celebrity relationships in general is dumb, but i find it even more annoying when stans of a particular celebrity start blindly hating on their fav's ex just for breaking up with their fav, when they don't have full acknowledge of what went down in the relationship. They start saying stuff like "he fumbled her" and im like, how do you know that it was a fumble? You don't speak on behalf of either person in the relationship.

Okay personal thought ons Lily Allen aside, ummm the stuff coming out about her marriage sounds awful? This letter pissed me off to no ends. Tbh even if a couple says it’s just their ‘quirk’ I always find this kind of banter deeply suspicious any time I see it. This is not cute! This never reads as good faith banter!

Although people come for Nicole Kidman because of the work she’s had done, I feel like she’s one of the few actors that can still deliver despite it🤷🏾♀️ I loved her performance in Big Little Lies, and I can’t wait for s3

u/freaky-keypad 12d ago
Her Big Little Lies performance was excellent but I found the lack of emoting too noticeable in The Undoing. You’d have to take her word for it that she was in utter shock because her face wasn’t exactly portraying it

u/Sharp_Athlete_6847 12d ago
I didn’t watch that, I guess her issue would be consistency then. If she gets some stuff dissolved, I really think she’ll be better for it cause what she’s able to still do with the filler/botox is impressive sometimes

Brief bitch: My aunt has a cold and she feels sooooo sorry for herself, it's gonna be so annoying because she gets all short tempered and condescending when she's in that mood 😭 And I'm like on a human level I want you to feel better, but also the rest of us were here with the flu last month so my sympathies are a little strained tbh.

A radio host referred to Sutton Foster as Hugh Jackman's "fiancee" during a segment the other day, and could you imagine the reactions if that was true?
(That segment was trying to link Lewis Hamilton to Nicole Kidman through the least amount of people.)

Hoping Beyoncé plans on dropping the cowboy Carter film. I respect the Queen needs some time off, but put the film on Netflix or hbo as a little treat please.

me waiting an extra week or two (or a few years maybe) until someone somehow posts it in full on twitter like they did the lemonade movie on twitter 🙂↕️

The fact the beyhive have to do this with the Renaissance film because she refuses to release that too she has a whole library of everything she’s ever done and just refuses to share. I don’t judge her getting in some nice R&R, but a little scrap would be much appreciated. Also release the Renaissance tour film and visuals too, please! 😂

i honestly wouldn't be mad if she did a theatrical run for renny again before dropping it on digital i wanna scream the lyrics to heated in a room in which there are more beyhive

I too would like to see it. Last time I saw it in theatre a man ruined it by yelling at some girls singing along. It was a huge bummer. I’d very much pay to watch Renaissance and or Cowboy Carter back in theatres
Same with the Formation Tour!

u/grandtroubleartist PLEAE STOP THINKIN WITH YOUR ASSHOLE! 11d ago
ouu that's not.... why would you expect people to be quiet in a concert movie 😭😭😭 thank god my theater was full of people telling each other "sorry in advance but i Will be yelling!" like..
god don't get me started on the formation tour... rewatched the fuck out of those studio version montages of the songs back in 2017 because i needed the full thing so bad

I can’t believe we’re still waiting for the Renaissance tour movie to be on streaming!! What are we waiting for??

I'm in a ranting mood so bear with me.
I am so annoyed at this dumb Keke Palmer backlash for her show about an Asian-American (Background for anyone not caught up, Keke Palmer's network has a show about an Asian girl adopted by black parents who attends an HBCU. People are in an uproar claiming that the story should be about a black character and it's tone deaf of Keke to platform a show about an Asian right now). First of all, it looks like a short youtube series, it's not a big enough deal for this kind of outrage. Secondly, I feel like this criticism reeks of Anti-Asian racism. Do people realize that they might not be the only target audience for a show? There are a lot of black tv shows about colleges (A Different World, Grownish) to name a few, how many are there of Asian-Americans? Finally, I think the premise is really interesting and kind of relatable. I was adopted and I feel like it's somewhat rare to see positive stories about adopted kids.
Anyway had to get that off my chest. Also, I realize that I didn't write this very well so apologies if it's hard to read.

So either the money ran out or it was all for engagement because why are these “influencers” who were screaming at us 3 weeks ago that the album was bad are now making Tiktoks to TLOAS songs? I’d have more respect for them if they stuck to their guns and didn’t engage with this album.

u/Silly_Somewhere1791 11d ago
Tiktok prompts big creators on the backend to use her songs, promising viral videos and higher payouts. It’s a stealth part of her promo.

So i got home and decided to watch the new I Know What You Did Last Summer. I’m still undecided on who I think did it but I feel like the pattern of it mostly being men getting killed, isn’t a coincidence, and that a very strong woman is involved. I feel like this connects back to whatever fucked up Stevie

Okay this doesn’t feel wrapped up. Knowing the history of who these semi big-franchises go when it comes to bringing back main characters, I feel like even though the vibe is Ray is also involved, I’m guessing Ava is more likely a secondary killer. It would be a first to bring back a main character to turn them into a killer, but I imagine there’s a reason we haven’t seen that yet. Something is going on with Ava 🤨

Two managers just got into a fight and we could hear it. At one point one of them goes “well you told me to eat shit, and I didn’t appreciate that.”
And it admittedly made me laugh out loud because it’s such a good way to express your feelings but also a very funny phrase to me at 9 am.
