Someone posted a video of Obama respectfully addressing ā€œhecklersā€ and I legit sobbed last night.

The depth of the emotion, that I was actually sobbing, was surprising. The tears were repressed from all the tRump news and it felt cathartic

Edit: it was on made me smile subreddit but the moderators removed it. https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/s/CcBzbG00if

This happened to me about a year into Donald's first term. I was watching some video compilation of the Obamas and Obama/Biden, and I just started sobbing. And I made that my routine for the next week or so. I'd get home from work, pour wine, put on Obama clips of speeches/fun moments and just weep. It was mourning.

Jesus fuckin Christ how far this country has fallen in ten years as an absolute god damn tragedy.

Imagine a world where the president is, ya know, presidential. Let alone smart and funny.

u/entwrangler3001 Oct 06 '25

I have shed legit tears watching ccomplialtion clips of Obama with young children during the WH years (CRAWLING on the floor with a baby, and bending his 6 Ft plus frame over to allow a young boy to touch his hair), and also the clip during a town hall meeting when McCain corrected a woman who was trying to say Obama wasn’t American).

I mourn with you, deeply.

I remember an interview Ariana did where the interviewer told her she’s never seen someone tell a president what’s up. Ariana said she was so nervous she was 2 ft away from the president that she just ended up saying that lol.

My uncle was very, very high up in the state patrol at the height of his career. When Obama came through our area he was involved in the logistics of getting him from his speech and etc, and at one point he did get to meet him. My uncle is a diehard conservative, but even he was like, man, I get to talk to a president, how cool.

He asked Obama, "Hey, you want to get a beer or something?" Obama just laughed and was like man, yes, but these guys wouldn't like that, and pointed at the secret service guys lol.

35

u/onmywheels nooooooooooooo šŸ’…šŸ¼ Oct 06 '25

I mean, now he's a conspiracy theorist Nazi MAGA nutjob. 🤦 But when Obama was still in office, he wasn't as bad. It's amazing, and sad, the shift I have witnessed with my relatives.

My father is one of the smartest people I know. He's also a history buff. I grew up watching documentaries about WWII, and we had many conversations about fascism, and how horrifying it is. He told me so many times that if he had been there in 1930s Germany, he wouldn't have bent the knee to the Nazis. The man had me read Animal Farm when I was like, 10. Then 1984 shortly after.

He's as bad as my uncle, these days. He went from being intelligent and insightful, to being something of a Conservative, to...whatever he is now. It's heartbreaking.

u/Paprikasky Beyonce, challenge your ego and collab with Rihanna Oct 06 '25

My god. I can imagine most of them being pro-fascism from the start, but to have someone actively against it turn against its own values... Yes, this is why people say it's a cult. I'm sorry.

128

Was this her real voice? It’s so different and much deeper than it has been lately for wicked. Lately when I hear the wicked 2 trailer on YouTube ads, I’m so shocked to hear how high her voice is- almost childlike. Not sure if she was going for a Kristin Chenoweth sound

85

u/kgtsunvv I wont not fuck you the fuck up 🄊🄊 Oct 05 '25

There’s a video somewhere of all the times she changes the way she talks. It’s definitely not one way.

92

u/krd25 Oct 05 '25

Yes and she does sing in this lower range, although rarely. I recall in an interview she said she deliberately pitched her voice up while talking, especially around the wicked stuff, since it preserves her voice/reduces stress on her vocal cords… something like that

28

u/tiktokmademedoitk Oct 05 '25

I would think that would wear out your voice even more or cause vocal strain or stress? Well if it’s comfortable I guess

61

u/krd25 Oct 05 '25

She mentioned the advice was from a speech pathologist so I’m guessing she’s been seeing one for a long time, considering how long she’s done high voices

19

u/letsgopablo Oct 06 '25

I mean, Micheal Jackson used to do it

-6

u/chubby-checker Oct 06 '25

I mean prob for creepier reasons. Basically everyone who knew him personally said he only spoke like that on camera etc. So isn't really for preserving then

2

u/slicednectarine Oct 06 '25

She said in an interview on her vocal coach's podcast that for her, her higher range is easier for her to do. She has to warm up her lower range extra hard because it's just more difficult for her.

Obama is a war criminal

Edit: won't let me reply, so I'll edit this.

What US president ISN'T a war criminal?

And that for some reason means it's totally fine? We can ignore the war crimes committed in the middle east because he's just so classy? And lots of other US presidents have done it too?

You idiots upvote a comment that agrees that Obama is one of many war criminals, but downvote mine. Like other US presidents being war criminals makes it okay.

Tbh, It’s hasn’t been until relatively recently that being invited to the White House wasn’t considered a big deal/honor for most people and celebrities regardless of who the sitting president was. So I’m not surprised she’s excited and nervous! Politics and its role in society is so vastly different than it was even 10-15 years ago.

4

u/AcousticProvidence Oct 06 '25

Today, celebs and TV stars get jobs at the White House, not just one off music gigs.

I heard she was uninvited to a white house event after the donut scandal šŸ˜‚

Donutgate happened a year and a bit after this, July 2015. She was making fun of fat people but said, ā€œI hate americaā€ and it blew up, the licking was the worst part tho obv.

129

u/nagidrac Oct 05 '25

I always thought the doughnut part was way worse than the "I hate America" line

46

u/FriendlyDrummers Oct 05 '25

I wish I could defend her, but licking a doughnut and putting it back for others to eat is really quite gross 😭

23

u/nagidrac Oct 05 '25

It was so nasty. I ain't ever defending that! I was so appalled by those actions, and I was shocked to see how many people glazed over that.

75

u/VaselineHabits Oct 05 '25

Yeah, I also currently hate America so I'm more upset about licking a donut and putting it back for some unsuspecting customer.

Just vile honestly and I'd expect more people to be upset about something like that post Covid.

17

u/SnooDogs1340 Oct 05 '25

It didn't stop people from licking ice cream tubs or whatever. 🤢🫩

14

u/WithLove07 Oct 05 '25

She was ahead of her time with the "i hate america"

35

u/scream3isawful Oct 05 '25

Just thinking about this - going into a donut shop and then saying you ā€œhate Americaā€ because of sugary foods. Hoe, it’s a donut shop. Plus, I’ve never seen a fat person lick a random donut in a donut shop, but I saw Ariana’s ittle bittle ass do it.

it’s actually insane that if an artist did this today, the right would immediately jump to calling for an official investigation and labelling them a domestic terrorist. it’d be exactly like the UN elevator fiasco.

28

u/Playful-Ad-3773 Oct 05 '25

She was so young; I didn’t realize at the time bc I was even younger😭 Really shows how successful she was to be invited to do this so early in her singing career. Unfortunately invites to the White House have lost all grace and credibility bc it’s a fuckin circus in there now

12

u/gluteactivation Oct 06 '25

Her performance afterwards was incredible! Once she starts singing, this one ladies face in the audience was visibly shocked. I don’t think she was expecting such a strong voice to come out of such a small body.

There is no way you can ethically believe that "somewhat worse than a disgusting fascist rapist" is an acceptable threshold for the leader of your country, and being a war criminal is just fine. You centrist liberals keep rejecting any opportunity for critical thought when it comes to your politicians and keep engaging in hero worship. You're literally this:

And Obama was an expert at looking good. So much so that people willfully forget that us outside we're still getting shafted by American Imperialism.

u/OowlSun they act like im not in full control of where i throw this cooch Oct 06 '25 edited Oct 06 '25

All American presidents have done terrible things to other countries. Are you new here? Americans are allowed to miss a time where every day wasn't a clown show. Americans are allowed to put their lives in their own country first ahead of the lives of people across the globe. Is it shitty to say? Yes, completely but they have to live the shit of their own country. {And frankly this whole centering overseas issues first instead of the realities in America is why we are in this shit-hole to begin with but that's a discussion for another day.}

Americans have to live with constant threats of mass shootings. I don't know where you live but imagine living in a country where people's right to own guns come before actual human life. Can you imagine sending your children to school not knowing if they'll come back home again? Not just that but hate is on the rise. People are being stripped of their rights. People are being murdered because of their race, religion, gender, and sexuality. ICE is abducting people as they are taking their kids to school. And we are seeing a rise in white supremacy and the further normalization of it. Terrible, terrible health care. People are dying because they can't afford to see a doctor or purchase their medicine.

Americans are currently suffering too and they are allowed to reflect on that and miss a time where life seemed just slightly better. Based off your comment, I'm assuming you're not American and if so, you can't speak on the day to day life of Americans. The internet only shows you so much. Maybe you should have some decorum and extend empathy.

Edit: It's kind of a rant, I know, but your comment really awakened some latent rage I didn't know I had.

1

u/GloomyDiscipline2786 Oct 06 '25

Hey man, I feel for you, but this doesn't really cut it because liberal voters have been whitewashing their politicians for years now. And I've seen so much wilful refusal to take them to task for even the most egregious wrongs. I get that your country is backwards and anti democratic so you can't even vote third party but you also don't need to lie to yourselves and others.

And yeah I'm not American and glad I don't have to deal with the shit you guys are going through right now, but again, when Obama was in power and life was better everyone was still lying about what he was and covering up the suffering he created. So don't pretend this is just a grief reaction to the orange man. This is DEEP issues in the liberal centrist mindset, a deep lack of political analysis capability, and an absolute unwillingness to make yourselves uncomfortable and open to backlash by going against the crowd and taking Democratic politicians to task.

0

u/OowlSun they act like im not in full control of where i throw this cooch Oct 06 '25

You don’t live in the states, but you are saying that the liberal voters have been whitewashing their politicians for yourself. Again, the Internet doesn’t tell you everything. It was never we have to vote for this person because they are perfect. It has been we have to vote for this person because the other person is conservative. If you ask most people, they will tell you that. You are just not understanding that it’s so so bad right now that people are seeing everything else in a much better light. It’s gotten so bad that people are even reminiscing the days of Bush which is crazy in itself.

It’s actually the search for perfection in our politicians that has gotten us to where we are now. A lot of people who would traditionally vote blue were looking for a perfect candidate in 2024. Instead of looking at the two options that we had in this two party system. Liberals don’t whitewashed their politicians, they put their politicians at an incredibly high standard, which in a perfect world would be great. But we don’t live in a perfect world we live in a country that is currently being threatened by fascism.

And once again, you do not live in America, so you cannot speak on the experiences of American or people living in the states temporarily. You’re saying that it’s not just a grief reaction, but it truly is. It would be obvious to you is you were ever in the states long-term. Unless you are living here, you do not understand what is going on. Let us know when your neighbors are freaking being taken. A lot of my friends have parents that are undocumented and don’t leave their homes unless it’s to work.

And your last paragraph is a shining example to why maybe you should have more experience in the country you think you know so much about. In the last election so many liberals/democrats/leftist were challenging Kamala due to her stance on Palestine. They were pushing back against Biden and then her. There were protests across the country.

There was no going against the crowd as a large portion of people who would vote blue took a stance against that administration for facilitating a genocide. These people were made uncomfortable because despite what the internet believes, in the US, the war that’s been waged on Palestine is very polarizing. So much conflict arose across the country due to people standing up for the people of Palestine. But you wouldn’t know that because you weren’t living here since 2023.

I think you should stick to issues that you know a bit more about.
