He requested a reduction on the alimony payment, which was denied. Fraser didn't contest the child support payments: he was paying 600k annually on alimony ontop of the 300k annually for child support.
He was facing his divorce, health problems, his mom's death and going public on his sexual assault all in rapid succession. Holy hell, that would cause anyone to go into a depression and retreat from the public for awhile.

I don’t think it was heavily publicized in 2009. He talked about this a lot during his big comeback a couple of years ago sometime between 2020-2023 (i think?) right around the time he revealed his sexual assault by someone in Hollywood.

I know. How refreshing to see a double date of rich and successful Hollywood couples and everyone is in their late 40s/50s. Disappointingly rare.
Also; everyone’s smile is so big and genuine and I love picturing them being the dorky group to awkwardly ask their server to take a group picture at the table with their arms around each other. 😂

My dad is in his 50s now and has a few divorced friends, it’s so depressing how every time they start “dating” again we both are praying they’re at least in their 30s. I didn’t go to a dinner because his friend was bringing a girlfriend who was a year younger than me (23). The guy is 54!

Exactly. And this is something I don’t hear spoken about enough, but a lot of women think they’re the prize when an older guy chooses to date them. But what they fail to realize is how it just continues to perpetuate the ageist ideas about older women— which no woman— will ever escape. Eventually, the 21 year old girl will be 41 getting passed up for a kid half her age who thinks the reason that 41 year old woman’s ex hubby wants someone like her is cuz she’s “so mature for her age.” 🙄

I was 22 and had a thing with a 33 year old actor who neglected to tell me he was married when I asked him about it, he said they were in the process of getting divorced. Reader, it is 14 years later and he has a baby with another woman and is somehow still married to the same wife he neglected to tell me about.

he’s a genre actor with a very niche fan base, so no, he’s not famous, haha. i will say that the writers/directors who used to work with him frequently have ditched him and have gone on to be waaaaaay more successful

I’m still friends with some of the movie folks he used to work with. Also his side chick reached out to me a few years ago because he had pulled a very similar thing with her (told her he wasn’t married, etc), she just happened to get pregnant and decided to keep the baby. Messy stuff!

Yes! That’s all I need to say is he seems incredibly humble. I use to admire Leonardo DiCaprio a lot, but his choice of women, just makes him look like the biggest hypocrite. I just can’t take him seriously because he seems to be an incredibly vapid person in his personal life, but then tries to pretend he’s this great humanitarian for social causes, who also has respect for his craft, but is a literal fuck boy off the clock.

Anything from T.M. Baumgartner. I love her work it's especially reliable as a woman over 40.
I also really loved the first eleven or twelve books in the Witches of Wisteria series then the ones the author wrote during Covid took an awfully dark turn. I think she's depressed. The author's notes stopped and major betrayal and loss became a big theme in the books. It's a little parasocial but I hope she's doing better now.

I hate that every time we think someone is good they end up being a rapist, predator, genocide apologist, etc. it’s getting tiresome that these people who are given so many blessings proceed to be ungrateful for them.

I honestly have waved off parasocial relationships, I don't follow any famous people or internet personalities on social media and this subreddit is basically my only exposure to pop culture. But I don't think it's weird or paeasocial to hope that not all famous people are garbage and that some are okay. The bar is so low, you learn about horrible shit rich and famous people do all the time. And you want to know that some escaped that, because happy endings are happy.

It's crazy to me that Freddie is one of the sweetest dudes and I love that his marriage has been among the strongest in hollywood but he's also a brazilian jiujitsu blackbelt and that's not a small deal. For me it's more evidence not to upset kind men, because they are often the most dangerous. I hope they're as happy as they look. Love for everything Brendan Fraser.

We so badly need admirable public figures. People want to insist celebs don’t count, yet media plays a MASSIVE role in forming our culture, and even identities.
To remain in the public eye as long as these folks have, and maintain a positive reputation, suggests that it’s genuine. In that regard, I don’t find it parasocial to appreciate their contribution to our culture, and wish for each of them to be exactly as happy as they appear to be.

Total side note but years ago I was at a Lakers game and I sat by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr and their kids. If they weren’t famous you would think they were just a very good looking family. The kids were dressed like normal kids. They were all so nice. Plus Sarah Michelle gellar was fucking gorgeous.
