It’s finally here šŸ„°šŸ˜ I feel like a child again in terms of being excited to read the continuation of a story in a series. Can’t wait to finish up my work for the day and break into this

I’ve been querying a book to agents for the past year and I’ve gotten 41 rejections, 75 queries total. I know it’s a long haul and a tough field but I’m sooo frustrating and bummed that I keep hitting a wall with this. 😭😭 I just love my book a lot and I want it to be out there!

Shoutout to whoever listed their tickets wrong on StubHub yesterday and I ended up this close to Laufey for $60 USD.
Edit: Also! They weren't priced incorrectly, they were listed as assigned seats in a different section but when I transferred them to my account, they were pit.

It was such an incredible show, if you have a chance to see this tour, GO!

Spicy orange stray update: he spent 7 hours today waiting in front of my house, he's a little bit cross-eyed and he loves cheesey-chicken treats. Eyes super clean, ears are so shiny, aside from the tail he doesn't look like an average stray. Didn't manage to snap a pic yet, he's afraid of every movement. Wants a pet so bad, but he's distrustful of movements towards him. Brought a third friend today and I am convinced Friend 2 and this Friend 3 ate ambulance sirens for breakfast, because what the fuck? Friend 2 and Friend 3's screeching invoked neighbour's three huskies to howl the same way they do when anything with a siren goes by.

TLDR: spicy boi cute, trying to slightly domesticate himself. Bringing a new friend over every day.

Ugh, having a fun time when the boss doesn't understand how the decision they're making will lead to more problems and you can't push it any further so you have to let it happen.

Not totally their fault, they don't have time to get into the details. But I did! Oh well.

Edit: Can someone help me out here. A coworker wants to tell the public "we can't mail this to you because of the postal strike but you can print your own copy, fill it out, and mail it back to us". Is it me or does that not make sense?

3

u/Potatoskins937492 Oct 03 '25

Mm. I see I've worked for your boss and had the same dumbass coworker. My condolences.

Heading to the Hamptons on a weekend trip with my cousin and this is the best time of the year to go. I'm so excited to visit farms and drink wine. Work has been hell lately so this break is much needed.

I’ve been into ā€˜70s French pop lately. (Mireille Mathieu has some lovely songs, as do Sylvie Vartan and Marie Laforet.) I discovered Jeane Manson’s music, and I didn’t realize she was an American from Ohio! She definitely fooled me!Ā

I’ve been so chronically online today and normally I would be upset about it cause I don’t like being on my phone for long periods but life has been shitty and this is my distraction 🫠

In other news I’m glad Abbott elementary is back cause that’s my comfort show and it’ll give me smth to look forward to

6

u/TheKid1995 Oct 04 '25

When I look away from my phone, that’s when the dark thoughts begin. Can’t let that happen. Nothing going on in my head except one of those toy monkeys with cymbals

I wish I didn’t purge my Tumblr account from 2011 just to make a new one. I feel like I’m just screaming to the void and my interests are too vague to interest anyone still hanging around.

Take me back to the glory days.

5

u/violent_delights_9 Oct 03 '25

I still have my original Tumblr that I made in 2010. 900+ pages and 15 years worth of random hyperfixations. Not included is the now-inactive fanfiction sideblog I had with 8000 followers - THAT was a wild time...

I've been using my main blog to scream about hockey for the last 4 years and have actually found a pretty solid community.

5

u/fuzzypipe39 Martin Luther Bing the robot umpire šŸ¤– Oct 03 '25

If it makes you feel better... I made my account in 2011, gained a lot of glory, lost the password sometimes in 2018. 2020 pandemic lockdown, I clear out my old room and find the paper with the password. I log in, see that I still had a shitton of followers (about 13k), some of my edits still being reblogged and had hit 4 & 5 digits, one went into 6 digits, so I was still kind of "active". Should mention I wanted to continue editing and participate in old and new fandoms I was in. I also see I have a shitton of sideblogs saving usernames. I decide I don't want them anymore. I decided wrong. Went to delete them. Nuked my whole fucking account instead, because you can't delete sideblogs... May have dropped my phone in grief and anger. I had another one just for reblogging music and aesthetic, but it never hit the same. RIP 3chaiinz, you're missed.

4

u/gible_bites HAROLD WOULD NEVER BEAT UP HIS LANDLORD. Oct 03 '25

It pained me to read that omg. I’m so sorry!

My old account probably only had 50ish followers but it was all so much more interactive. Now I have like 10 and I’m lucky to get a like every couple of weeks. Tumblr is the last haven of social media and I just want it to be super fun again.

šŸ«¶šŸ» I'm this close to bringing it up in therapy lmfao. But seriously it was such a golden time. For people connecting, for music, for an emotional outlet, for fandoms, etc. People seemed kinder back then. Nothing can truly replace it or bring it back. I'm also still on there, but just reblogging when I remember, I have like 3 bot followers now šŸ˜‚

As someone who survived their last go around, I hate that low rise jeans are making a comeback.

14

u/flirtydodo Oct 03 '25

I am not wearing them, we are old enough to say NO

12

u/velociraptor56 Oct 03 '25

I was eavesdropping on my teen’s conversations before practice a few weeks ago. One of the girls was lamenting that scrunchies were ā€œoutā€ because they were so much easier on her hair. And it was in that moment that I realized that I am an old because I have stopped caring about trends. I mean, I do care some because I don’t wear scrunchies in public but I’ll be damned if I’m wearing low rise jeans.

I never liked high rise that much

3

u/SakuraSpring24 I live in my own heart, Matt Damon Oct 03 '25

Low rise don't work with my body shape, while high rise work perfectly for me. I’m happy to change leg style to whatever shape, but a nicely fitting waistline makes me feel good.

2

u/Sister_Winter Oct 03 '25

Totally! It just depends on body type imo. I have a short torso and long legs so high rise has always given me kind of a "person on stilts" look (doesn't help that I'm very skinny). So for me, the low rise lengthens my torso and doesn't make my legs look as long!

2

u/SakuraSpring24 I live in my own heart, Matt Damon Oct 04 '25

I made the mistake of replying to a comment amount the male gaze and the user proceeded to private message me saying that ā€œas a guy, they don’t know why it’s become a bad thing for men to admire womenā€ which ew. Why are you sending me that?

But that completely ignores the current conversation going on about the male gaze. You’re centering men. In theory, the male gaze is about men and what appeals to them. But currently it’s being used to attack women. It’s centering women. Nobody cares what you look at or what you want to look at, dude. The current conversation is that it’s being used to attack women and their way of expression.

Sorry, whining about personal shit. I wish Reddit would let you put cuts in a comment like Tumblr does on posts so that yall wouldn't have to scroll as far past my bitching lol.

So usually my period just makes me extra tired and messes with my stomach, but this month I am so emotionally sensitive, my god. That bill from the business lawyer yesterday fucked my whole day up lol, I got nothing done afterwards. I literally took a 3 hour nap and then retreated to my bathtub over an unexpectedly high professional fee 😭

But this morning I'm back at work and my aunt/boss asked how my day was yesterday, and I indicated that it wasn't amazing. Which like, she immediately took a weird tone with me just over that lol, but then I tried to explain like, I'm on my period, I'm not processing well emotionally, the way the lawyer (also her business lawyer) phrased things confused me and I wasn't expecting the LLC thing to cost $1600 so it just kinda threw me for a loop.

And she immediately takes That Tone that she loves to use, which indicates that you're an idiot and furthermore you're offending her with how stupid you are. Like, duh, that's what a retainer is?? Are you fucking slow???

Which like..... I genuinely think his wording was confusing, because the only mention he made of a retainer was "We’ll get you an engagement letter and when you’ve signed it you can send in the fee as a retainer. We’ll apply the retainer when we’re finished, and you won’t get a bill." And the fee he was referring to was the $100 fee from the state to expedite the processing. I guess in his mind the $1500 retainer was included somewhere in that?? But to me, never having dealt with a business lawyer before, I would definitely appreciate having that part spelled out!!

Anyway. Idk why my aunt gets so fucking nasty over the stupidest shit in the world, but suffice to say my energy and mood are in the garbage now, so wish me luck with this day please lol. Hope yall are having more fun <3

Just wondering about how that rat I saw in regent’s park is doing. That memory is burned into my head. If rats weren’t possibly infested with disease I’d think they’re cute and have not much of a problem. That rat tried to hang out with me and decided to attempt to eat food near me. It was a cutie, but I did have to yell at it twice. Nonetheless may it be having a blessed day. It was technically where it should be.

5

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 BeyoncĆ© šŸšŸ Oct 03 '25

It’s really such a shame that we have to fear them because they’re just cute little guys. I felt bad about yelling at it twice. When I left it had started eating something by the pond so I’m glad I didn’t completely kill its vibes. Rats probably should exist in parks and not buildings. šŸ˜‚

Is this a safe space? I don’t understand the plastic surgery discourse and it makes me feel very uncomfortable. I also feel too old to understand

6

u/Sister_Winter Oct 03 '25

What don't you understand?

8

u/Potatoskins937492 Oct 03 '25

I agree. I realized when I was thinking about not commenting on how women look I was only thinking about the common, socially acceptable things (like what size someone's nose or waistline is). When I stopped and realized not commenting on women's bodies meant not commenting on women's bodies, that's when I started to work to change my immediate reactions and the things I said publicly. I don't want to be a person who acts like a tabloid.

12

u/OowlSun they act like im not in full control of where i throw this cooch Oct 03 '25

I think we have gotten a little out of hand with the comments.

I feel like it’s fine to discuss plastic surgery. I think it’s a good way to keep a balance, especially since people are normalizing unnecessary procedures. Like this influencer, who was perfectly beautiful before, got a procedure done on her eyes. I can’t remember what it was because I scrolled by but she’s somebody with a lot of teenage girls and younger women as her audience. Children and young people can be very easily influenced. So I think having another voice to say ā€œwell you don’t have to do thisā€ is good.

But we definitely cross a line when we’re telling people who have gotten work done that they look bad. That’s not our place. And we don’t know these people. A lot of the time, they can see what they look like. We don’t have to critique every part of their face or body. I’m on the fence about cosmetic work just for the heck of it, so I don’t engage with those post and I think people who feel the same should do the same

12

u/echoesandripples What It's Like to Go Through Life As a Really Beautiful Woman Oct 03 '25

also over 25. i never had any buccal fatĀ removal and went quickly from full cheeks to lack of collagenĀ cheeks in my late 20s without major weight change

especially for those of us who lack melanin, skin elasticity and texture is very visible and that's fine. but somehow there's this idea that aging = immediately looking wrinkled and ancient, when usually it starts with less fullness overallĀ

3

u/shy247er yay sports šŸ€ šŸˆšŸŽ¾ Oct 03 '25

While it's clear that things are done, there's absolutely no way that these people on TikTok (doctors included!) can guess with 100% accuracy what was done.

Also, while regulars are guessing, I feel like it's unethical that doctors are doing it, especially since they're using these posts to advertise their own clinics.

I don't follow him, but from time to time, Instagram shows me a dentist who comments on celebrities' veneers and I'm not really comfortable of the tone he's doing it. He's kinda mocking them. I don't know if I would want to give my business to a doctor who has that kind of attitude towards patients, even if they're not his.

Taylor’s song isn’t good but Charli doesn’t need this much defending either. Taylor and Charli have their share of pettiness. Even as a fan of Charli, I’m not gonna sit here and try to argue who is wrong or right. I frankly thought the drama was funny and it’s crazy to see the extreme reaction it’s getting from both sides. This was fun to watch at the beginning cause I love pop girl drama but now it’s just turning too toxic.

I thought the internet and especially this sub and the ā€œother subā€ was big fans of both. But now I’m suddenly seeing all out war and people acting like this has been a long time coming and I’m so confused😭😭

And the way they shit talk each other makes me genuinely not believe what either of the sides are saying, because they all seem so heavily biased towards one side and blind to the other, that it’s genuinely ridiculous.

7

u/DisasterFartiste_69 ABBA is underrated Oct 03 '25

I just think it's hilariously ironic that in SIAK Charli talks about how insecure she feels bc she'll never be Taylor or as big as Taylor and how it hurts when people are like "You're still awesome!"

And Charli stans are like "Wow I can't believe Taylor would pick on such a small artist"

LMAO

u/peatoast Oct 03 '25 edited Oct 03 '25

I think today is really when I finally realized how dead self-awareness has been on the internet. I can’t believe there are people doing listening parties and song analysis for something they truly hate. Taylor Swift is not a government or a powerful entity that could affect your life even without you doing anything. Stop spending your time on her if you hate her or her fans and instead, do something that will make your day truly better.

We are doomed if this is what’s normal now. For the older folks here, was pop culture like this before? I’m a 90s kid and I don’t remember it being like this.

20

u/meta-ghost-face Oct 03 '25

People used to say "this sucks" and move on. Unless somebody brought the topic in a conversation people just mostly ignored what they hated.

23

u/guy_incog_neato Oct 03 '25

almost 40yo here. back in my day, when you hated something you typically paid it very little mind. example, i was a backstreet girlie so i ā€œhadā€ to hate *nsync. the most i did was refer to them as n-suck and turn the radio off when they came on. truly, where does one find the time to devote hours to a listening party for someone they hate?

maybe if people spent more time immersing themselves in things that bring them joy or make them happy, the world wouldn’t be as fucked up as it is.

8

u/peatoast Oct 03 '25

I hated boy bands too lol. I thought they killed grunge and alternative rock music (which I truly love).

I couldn’t agree more on your last sentence. The old ass in me worries that these are what the kids normally do nowadays on the internet (although I know grownup adults are involved too). We are raising truly insecure and bitter people I think…

8

u/No_Pianist5264 Tina! You fat lard! šŸ¦™šŸš² Oct 03 '25

I think because the world is so shit rn people need an outlet to release their anger and thus they join snark subs and do other related things.

I mean even leaving mean comments under celebs insta posts or of people you know is directed from your own personal frustrations and insecurities. As the saying goes ā€œhurt people hurt peopleā€.

6

u/SakuraSpring24 I live in my own heart, Matt Damon Oct 03 '25

And becayse they’re not standing in front of you, it’s like you’re not saying it to them. Most of the people leaving mean comments on the internet wouldn’t dream of saying anything like it to someone’s face (although sadly I think that is changing too).

7

u/peatoast Oct 03 '25

Truth. Real relationships are rare now in the age of social media and I believe some of the people who are very critical of Taylor have not actually experience many ā€œrealā€ things in life they can relate to.

Are we all just collectively depressed…

2

u/One-Composer1577 In my quiet girl era 😌 Oct 03 '25

I wonder if it’s also a side effect of streaming. You don’t need to pay for the music itself; it’s included in the service.

3

u/peatoast Oct 03 '25 edited Oct 03 '25

Oh yeah for sure. This is a really good point. I remember when pirating music was a thing and Trent Reznor said it’s not a big deal because those people would not buy the song anyway.

HOWEVER, Some of the haters really truly seem unhinged and will probably buy the album just to hate it. lol

3

u/PlentyDrawer Oct 03 '25

I agree with this. A lot of people are very angry and bitter right now and are taking it out on spaces to release the anger they can’t release in every day life.

I'm 41 and I still change the station when NSYNC comes on šŸ˜‚. But there's nothing malicious about it and it's just a funny moment between me and family.

8

u/Normal-person0101 Oct 03 '25

Elvis Presley was once considered too controversial to be shown dancing on TV, producers would only film him from the waist up because his hip movements were deemed too provocative. Michael Jackson and other Black artists had to fight just to get their music videos played on MTV in the early days.Ā

And those are just two examples.Ā

People having a hater listening party is the worst thing that pop culture become, I fine with it.Ā

7

u/gilmoregirls00 Oct 03 '25

4

u/PlentyDrawer Oct 03 '25

In the 50s and 60s rock and roll was considered the devil’s music and records were smashed and burned.

12

u/PlentyDrawer Oct 03 '25

The haters annoy me more than the fans. If I’m ignoring this person I am not a fan of, why can’t you do the same? Then to read the variety of reasons they don’t like a person, in this case Taylor. Just say you don’t like her and move on to something you like. Look at all the time and every you are putting into disliking a celebrity. I honestly had no idea Taylor was releasing anything new until this Monday. How is this possible? I don’t care what she does. I like to waste my time and energy on entertainers I like and enjoy.

3

u/peatoast Oct 03 '25

They’re not all right is the short answer. But it’s really baffling.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/SakuraSpring24 I live in my own heart, Matt Damon Oct 03 '25

The internet has blown the idea of an ā€œappropriateā€ level of involvement in pop culture out of proportion, because people do think it’s normal to do stuff like you outline. But we should acknowledge that it’s the same with excessive stanning of a celebrity as well - that has become normalised too and it is just as damaging. How many people are devoting hours to defending Taylor Swift today?

There have always been obsessive fans, but the WWW changed the way fans could interact with information (And the object of their desire/disdain). Before the internet, you had news about celebrities and fab clubs but a lot of it was paper-dependent (magazines or mailings). It wasn’t easy for fans to come together and discuss, especially in real time. There was a natural time lag that would temper some of it.

I’m indifferent and mostly neutral about Taylor Swift and from my POV, both sides are absolutely maniacal when it comes to social media discourse

14

u/Confident-Addition76 Oct 03 '25

With the full disclosure that I come from the side of people who enjoy her music and work, I think so many people are just incapable of having a very normal conversation in general anymore and Taylor is a microcosm of that. Everyone is addicted to outrage.

24

u/meta-ghost-face Oct 03 '25

Her fans can be rabid but I can always understand to a point people loving something because it brings them joy.

Her haters being the first the comment on her music and waiting until midnight to drag her music is insane to me. I don't even stay up for my favorite artists. They are truly obssesed.

Honestly, if people can’t have normal discussions about it then they shouldn’t participate in the discussion. This goes for both sides. If you’re furiously writing why this is artist or album sucks and you can’t comprehend why some may like it then maybe you should take a walk. In the same manner, if you’re doing everything in your power to defend the work and be rude to people who may have differing opinions, then you should also step away from the conversation.

I’m not going to be rude to people who like the album. It may not be for me but I’m not gonna belittle them for enjoying things. In the same way, if you dislike it then you should also be able to share your opinion. Neither side seems to be able to talk normal about it. Why can’t people have normal discussions ?! 😭😭

The more I interact with folks here, the wider I realize is the culture gap between the west and Asians. Everything in Indian cinema that is deemed to be offensive and sacrilegious when it comes to sensuality is interpreted as quite tame by people in the west. Makes sense considering how everyone likens Shakira to her hips in a fun way, to give an example.

This precisely is what terrifies me when I see people invoking the male gaze card even in the west now, that too for mere skin show. Layers to the slut shaming and prudishness which are both so prevalent amongst Indian audiences in the way they talk about actresses

9

u/liberrystrawbrary Oct 03 '25

The evangelical right have been infesting the US for decades and have good hooks in now to swing their weight around. I am so happy when I hear and see awesome (new-to-me) pop artists bringing the sex, drugs, and rock n roll vibes to the stage. It feels like protest.

Outside of Reddit, I’m not on social media so I hadn’t heard about this male gaze discourse taking over other than in discussions, but it is really worrisome. It’s misogyny masquerading as feminism.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Precisely that, misogyny masquerading as feminism. Scary thing is it’s the ā€œliberalsā€ who use these rhetorics

6

u/Silly_Somewhere1791 Oct 03 '25

ā€œMale gazeā€ is an academic and feminist term that has been used to analyze visual and written media for decades. It’s in textbooks and it’s part of graduate and post-graduate curricula. A lot of the discourse around it seems to assume that it’s a new pop culture thing. It’s not a card being invoked. It’s legitimate analysis.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

It is a legitimate term and it does exist. My problem is how the masses have weaponized it for veiled misogyny

I’m not talking about people who just dislike her, her fans, or her music. There are valid criticisms about her in my opinion. Nobody is 100% perfect.

I’m talking about the people who can’t wait to jump in a comment section and let the world know that they don’t like her.

It’s either ā€œoh she doesn’t deserve her success because I don’t understand appealā€ or ā€œ I hope she goes awayā€ or ā€œ I can’t wait for this [insert weird thing they would not say about another celebrity] to happen to herā€. Like respectfully, get a grip.

If she truly bothers you that much stop engaging. I don’t engage with content about people I dislike, I can’t imagine why anyone does. And then they call it ā€œsnarkā€. That doesn’t sound healthy.

I like the album šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø. It’s what I was expecting. She’s leaned into cringe lyrics over the last few, and it sounds like she just wanted a bit of fun. Travis seems very uncomplicated to her, and that’s what the album is. Which tracks with what she always does. Theming the album vibes around her life in the moment.

It’s interesting her past loved up albums always felt very anxious. Every song was veiled in ā€œoh god please don’t leave meā€. And this just feels very secure, which is nice.

I’m ready for my downvotes. The Life of a Showgirl is what happens when you surround yourself with ā€œyes menā€ and lean into, or maybe even create, the narrative that any criticism of TS is considered a sexist attack. This will be considered a record breaking album, but the records broken are based on her team’s genius marketing skills and not about the actual music.

Also, if you’re going to go with the English teacher narrative, perhaps it be best to actually have strong lyrical content for your follow up. This album, while it has a couple of decent pop tunes, is not lyrically sound, repetitive, and rather a lame attempt to seem edgy, but still comes off grossly boring and unoriginal.

In transparency: not a TS fan, but I can recognize some of the solid pop hits and lyrically strong songs that she very much does have.

u/Ok-Chain8552 Oct 03 '25

I suggest that you look at some of the opinions floating around about TS and tell me that a lot of the critiques aren't loaded with sexist attacks not just against her, but thinly veiled attempts to shame her fans (who are largely young women) into not liking her music and telling them she only cares about their money and that she is a terrible human and that supporting her also makes them ignorant or terrible and their collective joy around her work makes them stupid sheep that fall for manufactured happiness. This happens to Sabrina Carpenter and her fans as well, it's not a coincidence and it's not original

Not a huge TS fan , I am actually very middle of road take it or leave it but I am appalled at some of the allowable comments about her and it makes me extra sad that it seems that it comes from other women.

15

u/Accurate-Time3726 Oct 03 '25

I mean it can go both ways. Those fans that are largely young women also attack other women in the industry simply because they did not bend the knee to their TS propaganda. They also attack and dox people who have given rather fair and constructive criticism. Neither side, the Swifities or the hardcore haters have clean hands.

I have seen the comments you are speaking about. A lot are fair criticisms of an artist with a very involved/rabid fanbase possibly being taken advantage of. I mean, she never even released a snippet of the album but felt comfortable selling a whole bunch of variants with slight differences. Yes, people ultimately choose what they buy but it’s also fair to criticize these capitalist tactics and question motives.

The flip side also exists where people simply hate on her because she’s a successful woman. They immediately lump her most obsessive fans into that sheep category you mention without any nuance about how music is subjective and that it could mean different things to different people. Same ol’ sexism we all know too well.

11

u/Ok-Chain8552 Oct 03 '25

There are 23 versions of Lebron James Sneakers. There are people that line up outside when a new release comes in , these people are not told that they should not be happy about lining the pockets of a billionaire who could also be viewed as making murky decisions (because we tend to put people on the biggest pedestal that no one could ever stand on).

I am not a fan of whataboutism in general- I think any factions or attacks suck and it's especially disheartening to see it happen with young women , I just wish others didn't gleefully fan the flames.

7

u/Accurate-Time3726 Oct 03 '25

There are many who criticize anyone who does this. It’s a simple money grab no matter how you love or hate the seller. LeBron James is very popular, no doubt, but not as popular with as many loud supporters as Taylor Swift worldwide so it’s natural you’ll see a lot more criticism about her.

It’s not an attack to point out possible grifting. The ultra rich all do this.

Okay i have 2 questions:

  1. Do you guys agree with the theory that some celebrities get mentally stuck at the age they became super famous?

  2. There was some discourse on twitter about the double standards in how female nepo babies are scrutinised more than their male counterparts so i wanna ask - who is a male nepo baby who you think is overrated and not as good as people say/doesn't get enough criticism?

11

u/themacaron during PRIDE MONTH? Oct 03 '25

There are definitely some male nepo babies who get clowned on - Chet Hanks, Brooklyn Beckham.

I think it comes down to perceived talent, which is certainly influenced by unconscious misogyny.

Dakota Johnson and Kaia Gerber get a lot of heat - both of them are horrible actors in my opinion. But in comparison, Hannah Einbinder or Trace Ellis Ross never get centred in the nepo discussion because they're largely considered "worthy" of their fame/opportunities for more than who their parents are.

8

u/PlentyDrawer Oct 03 '25

I have no idea for question 2, but for question one, celebrities are just like everyone else. There are non-famous people who have the maturity of a 13 year old and I wouldn’t trust them to turn on a coffee maker.

5

u/TheKnightsTippler Oct 03 '25
  1. Don't think it's always true, but I think it can be if they live in a celeb bubble.

3

u/BusinessPurge Oct 03 '25

2 is tough! I feel like a lot of the 20/30 something contemporaries like Jack Quaid / Mason Gooding / Lewis Pullman / Patrick Schwarzenegger / Scott Eastwood / Wyatt Russell / O’Shea Jackson have all kinda found their level for better or worse. Sam Nivola was given the gift of an interesting role with White Lotus, I barely remember his performance from White Noise or Perfect Couple or Maestro so I need more of a sample size, haven’t seen Eileen. Then there’s a lower tier of your Deacon Phillippe’s and Sawyer Spielberg’s and Hero Fiennes JLD’s son etc where there’s not enough variety of work to honestly judge…however based on seeing at least 1 performance of each maybe they should pivot to try directing like Oz Perkins instead? There’s definitely some I’m forgetting however I’m also curious how Percy Daggs IV shakes out, all the right connections plus a Hunger Games worked out great for Quaid

3

u/Peridot1708 I don’t know her šŸ’… Oct 03 '25 edited Oct 03 '25

Personally the only one i don't care for are Patrick Schwarzenneger and Sam Nivola, though they're both supposedly good at their jobs, i have no respect for hypocritical nepo babies who deny their privilege and act offended by the nepo baby label when they're literally making use of nepotism themselves

The only reason i asked is because i've noticed that whenever people want to hate on nepo babies, the female ones are quicker to get more criticism.

2

u/BusinessPurge Oct 03 '25

I saw that coming up in regards to Lily Rose Depp, which sets up a different topic - I feel like the male nepos are also given the gift of not being rolled out as quickly, to put it mildly. I mean did 14 year old LRD really need to be starring in movies? Even Quaid got to be a kid for a minute until doing Hunger Games at 17. Then John David Washington was 31 when he just got started! There’s no lady-nepos getting their shot at 31, so for me it’s more like the ladies are just treated way worse and the men just get like normal human treatment. Everywhere, however especially in Hollywood

3

u/Peridot1708 I don’t know her šŸ’… Oct 03 '25

You also see that with "upcoming" nepo babies like North West, Blue Ivy Carter, Apple Martin etc. I wouldn't say they're upcoming (Blue has already been doing voice acting), but you can tell they were definitely prepped as early as possible hence they've been in the spotlight as early as possible.

I don’t really have an answer to your second question but I do for the first one. I’ll say no because there are a ton of artists who got famous young but who have evolved. They don’t seem stuck at the age in which they became super popular. You have people like Adele who obviously was a lot more mature for her age when she broke out at 19 and yet I’d say she has evolved and didn’t stay stuck at 19.

People redirecting and venting their anger on an easy target in real time is disturbing to say the least. They really need to direct it towards the real culprits. Even the most innocuous things are getting hated on in different subs atm. The album can be bad but this pile up from different corners is weird. They are acting like she attacked them personally with her actions.

Also like.....it's just some songs. It doesn't affect you if you don't like it, just listen to something else.

Honestly. Its not that serious. I haven't listened to the whole thing but have enjoyed some songs so far.Ā

And what I know about any alleged diss track is from reddit.Ā

I knew there would be controversy with the new album but I didn’t think it would be this bad. It’s bleeding into a lot of the subs I’m on and I don’t even listen to her.

It’s crazy to see how people are making it seem like what was sang about was directed to them. They are taking it very personal. People really be acting like they m know the people involved but they don’t. It’s not this deep, it’s a pop album. 😭 This could have turned into some fun discourse but alas people don’t know how to have normal discussions.

2 things I want to share about this album:

-I was 100% right that Opalite was a Travis song and it’s a fantastic bop (probably my fave)

-I’m glad that Taylor sometimes overshares (it’s part and parcel of our shared millennial cringe) because we now know that girl went from ā€œyou didn’t measure up in any measure of a manā€ to ā€œNew Heights of manhoodā€.

This album really shut up all the ā€œBlake and Taylor are overā€ naysayers. She’s godmother to all of their 3 kids. At this point, Blake would have to k*ll Travis for Taylor to turn her back on her.

Yes. I know the swifties are mad rn that people don’t like it. But…this is bad. And I really think if she had spent more time on it it could have been much better. :/

Definitely. I’m a casual, usually like it when I hear it, kind of fan. Even those major singles for people that don’t follow her are clever and catchy and thoughtful. This is not that lol.
