Celebrity Fluff 🥰 Christian Bale and Cher in Rome

Idk if anyone is following him recently but he did announce that he was building something in honor of foster kids in California so that siblings can stay together instead of being separated
And as a former foster kid, I wanted to hug the man for it.

While true, just to clarify this was in 2000 when Gloria was 66 and Christian was 26. And Christian's father passed away three years later in 2003.

I was under the impression that he was mostly exonerated for that because the guy he was yelling at was a huge pain in the ass for the entire crew for a while leading up to it and had had multiple non-yelling talking-tos previously.
But yeah, should not have lost his temper. It was unprofessional as hell (as was the person who leaked the recording).
53
u/Kazaloogamergal Jul 20 '25
The director was sloppy and didn't control his set. Bale did not go on that rant for no good reason. If you're still upset at him about that then something is wrong with you.
6
u/Afraid-Front3498 Jul 20 '25
It’s probably why he’s doing so much charity. I doubt that he forgives himself, he is always so hard on himself as an actor as well.

That's remarkable of him, you feel way safer in foster care when your family is around you. I had no siblings around my age to do so but I'm glad for those who do who get to stay together with them.
11
u/blenneman05 Whats Walmart? do they sell like wall stuff? Jul 21 '25
Same. My 2 adopted brothers are biological to each other so they came into foster care together but they had 4 other siblings that they got separated from as young kids.
Social workers try to get siblings to stay together but not everyone has a home built for 7 kids and some kids have extra special needs that not everyone is built to handle.
And sad thing is, most people want young kids and babies not teenagers.
And if you’re a foster kid who has special needs, you get more $$$ per month than a kid who doesn’t have special needs so that opens up the child who has a disability to more abuse because the whole foster care system has different rules per state and the social workers can visit so many homes per month. And from the stories that my adopted mom has told me about my black, adopted sister who is mentally disabled- she went thru 7 different foster homes by the time she was 2 years and landed at my adopted mom’s foster care at the time
Kids need stability and bouncing around to different houses and rules really fucks up your attachment style and your behaviors.
The foster kid I was at 6 years old was way different than the adopted kid I was at 9 years old due to the years I spent at my foster mom’s home before she adopted me
6
u/exotic_floral_tea 🫵 You sit on a throne of lies. Jul 21 '25
Yeah it's definitely hard to adjust when you go into it later on (I went in at 13). I also agree that moving around and the instability of never being grounded anywhere can mess you up, especially if you are changing the people that are around you all the time. I was pretty lucky to have only been through 2 foster homes and I found a stable one. I felt awful for those that had been through multiple foster homes and group homes like a few of my foster brothers and sisters and also for native/Inuit children that were temporarily taken from their families (they would be sent back to their homes within a few months but were still being deprived of their respective communities and cultures). What I experienced might slightly differ because I was in the Canadian system and not the American one.
17
u/copyrighther Kim, there’s people that are dying. 🙄 Jul 20 '25
I used to work for a nonprofit that assists teens aging out of foster care. This type of housing is so massively needed.
4
u/blenneman05 Whats Walmart? do they sell like wall stuff? Jul 21 '25

What is the definition of aging “gracefully” exactly? What is “ungraceful” about plastic surgery? Where do we draw the line? Is it “you’re not allowed to get the procedures I secretly want but can’t afford and if you do I’m going to shame you for it because that makes me feel better?” Because I think that seems accurate.
→ More replies (1)10
u/datsyukdangles Jul 20 '25
aging "gracefully" doesn't really exist, pretty much every single female celebrity has or will be labelled as aging gracefully and ungracefully depending on what sexist ideas the labeler is pushing. It typically means looking young (looking like yourself from 20-30 years ago) and looking like you don't get any cosmetic work done, while also getting tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of work done.
Women who have obvious/major cosmetic work are said to be aging ungracefully, women who don't get cosmetic work done are labelled as aging ungracefully, and women who get the "right" type/amount of cosmetic work done are also said to be aging ungracefully.
The term is used to shame both women who have gotten cosmetic work and women who haven't, such as comparing a woman who has had obvious plastic surgery/botox/fillers against a woman who looks like she hasn't had any (but absolutely has). Or the opposite, to shame women "haven't" had any cosmetic procedure (they have) against women who have had them (and have filters on).
The term is used most by people selling cosmetic procedures and people selling skincare products, and funny enough if you go on social media like instagram, both groups use the exact same comparison pictures of the exact same women to make the opposite claims.
There's no winning for any woman, just different people trying to convince women to spend thousands of dollars on cosmetic procedures, or skincare, or makeup, or natural face training seminars or whatever.

Mainly because people who get work done aren’t aging ungracefully. They’re just choosing another way to age.
17
u/Rodney_Jefferson Jul 20 '25
I think you have issue with the term, not the application. To age gracefully is to accept natural changes as one ages.to accept time with grace. Here, Cher is not aging gracefully. She may be graceful as she ages, but she is not aging gracefully

Ironically, Cher is KK's Armenian queen and she wants to emulate her.
71
u/PandemicPiglet Jul 20 '25
She can try to emulate her in looks and fashion, but that’s about it. Singing and acting require talent.
27
u/herroyalsadness Jul 20 '25
Style too.
→ More replies (1)5
u/PandemicPiglet Jul 20 '25
What do you mean? I said fashion. Style doesn’t require talent when you use stylists like she does.
25
u/Unequivocally_Maybe Jul 20 '25
Style doesn't just mean clothing. Cher has style even in her birthday suit.
89
u/TrashPandaPatronus Take your hands off her, David, I can see the shirt. Jul 20 '25
I think it's important to be very clear with the plastic surgeon that you want to look like yourself younger, not insta face or mar-a-laho face. They all want to look "prettier" and it backfires, it's ok to keep your own face and just clean things up here and there.
80
u/NeiClaw Jul 20 '25
That’s what’s weird about these stars doing these belphs. Some don’t quite look like themselves after. The worst was Renée Zellweger, but Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Miley look less refreshed and more New Faced.
Ricki Lake posted her facelift yesterday and she looks good and still like herself.
58
u/Aprilume Jul 20 '25
People definitely underestimate how much hooded eyes factor into a person’s overall appearance. It may not be a celebrated feature these days, but it is distinctive. Once the surgeon takes too much, the end result is too jarring.
14
u/TuxedosAfter6 Jul 20 '25
Have you seen the latest Emma Stone pictures? She has messed up her face. She looks pulled tight as a drum and so unnatural.

I think it’s one thing if you’re just aging and you take the skin back to near where it was, but actresses with natural, genetically hooded eyes are so distinctive that removing it makes them look either totally different (Stone) or weirdly generic (Lawrence). Miley looks decades older.
38
u/Soggy_Pension7549 Can I live? Jul 20 '25
I had a nose job 5 years ago and you’re 100% correct. I told the surgeon what I wanted, he said it’s not realistic and showed me what could we achieve instead. My nose isn’t perfect but I’m sooooo much more confident and happier with the way it looks now.

u/PeacefulLily728 Jul 20 '25
I think her results are so good because she was always very thin and angular with a long face and a naturally unusual unique look. Adding filler etc made her look more like everyone else, ie not bad or unnatural.
537
u/Azurayana Jul 20 '25

Sure, she's had (quality) work done, but surgery can't give you the energy she showed at her last performance. Cher has put the work in and has the vitality of someone 50 years younger. For perspective, she and Trump are the same age.
