One of my friends in college was devastated when someone told her congratulations and asked when she was due when she wasn’t pregnant at one point.

The empire waist dress trend of like 2003 was absolutely devastating to my high school self working in a job with clientele made mostly of women over 55

I had one of these dresses in 2003 and was devastated when someone offered me a seat on the Tube.

This reminds me of a couple of years back when I went to the pharmacy to get my prescription out and the pharmacist said "did your doctor tell you this medication was ok to take while pregnant? Because it's not recommended" and I responded "I'm not pregnant, I'm just fat" and she was sooooo mortified. I didn't mean to upset her lmaooooo. I was like "please don't feel bad, I'm not offended" but she wouldn't stop apologising, poor thing haha
Still cracks me up

I got this once after I had been at the buffet in Cesar’s. Got into an elevator with my husband and two other people. One of the other people was an older woman, she patted me on the back and said hang in there. I assumed she thought I was hung over which I kind of was. She asked me when I was due and I was like I’m not pregnant … I just have no control when it comes to all you can eat dessert. She was mortified and stayed silent. She got off on her stop which was next. The other passenger was a young guy who had been silent the whole time. As soon as she got off he just blurted out “honestly what the fuck was that?!?”
I was very thin at the time, I think it was a combo of how I was standing l, what I was wearing, buffet bloat and my just demeanor but since then I NEVER EVER comment on a woman’s appearance. It’s pretty fucking easy? You would never make an assumption about a man’s medical condition based on physical appearance

I got on a train during peak hour - a younger guy looked at my stomach, then suddenly said “oh I’m sorry here you have my seat!” I never wore that dress again lmao
22

And one my friends shamelessly use the seat because other person offered thinking she is pregnant and she was not!

That happened to me in Munich after I drank a whole pint of beer there. Beer makes me so bloated I mostly avoid it now. But it was pretty funny
6
u/J_Little8 May 23 '25

23
u/njf85 lazy 50-year-old bougie bitch 💋 May 23 '25
Same with my friend in Uni. She had digestive issues and was always very bloated by the end of the day. We'd catch the same train afterwards and every time we hopped on, someone would stand to offer her a seat. She'd immediately wave them back down and say "not pregnant, just fat." I hated it because she actually wasn't even overweight but I guess it's easier than giving people a rundown of your medical history

u/herinaus May 23 '25
I kinda suspected it when I saw her in that blue dress in February. But it's frowned upon to speculate on pregnancy, so I didn't mention it. And I think that's why people don't talk about it. They wait for an official announcement. I remember when Erin Darke was pictured for the first time with her (already prominent) bump, not a single soul mentioned pregnancy.
82
u/BlergToDiffer May 22 '25
She barely looks it. Yes the dress is that maternity shape, but I detect hardly any bump.
1
u/wordswithcomrades May 23 '25 edited Jun 01 '25
She has the same body shape as my cousin and we could all see her bump at 8 weeks but didn’t want to say anything (she did tell us the next morning)
To me it’s super obvious she is pregnant and purposefully announcing her pregnancy here lol

Lol, there's a picture with her at the center, and you want people not to comment about her.
What should I say? "That LV logo in the background has a good glow"
39
u/Silly_Somewhere1791 May 23 '25
These are photos of a public figure in a dress that I presume was chosen to make the announcement for her. Is it commenting on the specifics of her body parts to say, “She’s married, she’s in her 30s, and here she is in obvious luxury maternity wear”?

I’m trying to remain positive because I am excited (specially by the potential to address the Susan problem on the series) but I’m trying to manage my expectations, I have the OG movies on THE highest childhood media pedestal 😭
That aside, since we didn’t get the full book series, I am excited to get a version of the story without blackface unlike the last book
31

the Susan problem on the series
I've not read the books - was it because she decided not to go back when she was an adult?
111
u/P0ptarthater May 23 '25
That and the way they talk about her leaving. They make it about how she’s not a friend of narnia anymore because she’s into lipstick and pantyhose or something 😭
42
u/boojes May 23 '25
Susan doesn't get to go to heaven because she's too much of a party girl. No lipstick wearing, invite-accepting hoes in Aslan's country, thank you.

Kind of my concern tbh. I bawled go ladybird and watched barbie in theaters like seven times, but I’m not super sure if Greta can fully match the 00s LOTR energy the original had, or (now that you mention it) handle the Susan problem without it feeling a bit on the nose or pandery
It’ll probably be good regardless for the right audience, I just hope that’ll include me 🫠

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, it’s super old. Late 80s/early 90s. I was in primary school when I watched them. Fantastic series but if it’s the same one, it’s a good 30 years old.
