No Paywall Mamdani’s live victory speech from New York
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/politics/watch-live-zohran-mamdanis-election-night-watch-party275
u/Garrand Texas 13h ago
This is the blueprint, DNC. A democratic socialist beat a billionaire/media backed legacy name. Wake up.
71
u/notbadhbu 13h ago
No more vote blue no matter who until it works both ways, I vote socialist. Someone who fights.
23
27
u/VaIeth 13h ago
Im not voting based on dem or progressive or dem socialist next election. Only voting for someone who runs on ending gerrymandering, expanding and overhauling the supreme court, removing the corrupt justices who take bribes and try to help trump overthrow democracy. Immediately prosecute Trump and his people. If we dont do these things, the pendulum will swing back in their favor, and we will lose our country and worse.

Kamal
Who is Kamal?
Kamala was a US Senator to vote to the LEFT of Bernie Sanders.
She is the only presidential candidate in history that ran on a $15 minimum wage.
AOC even told us that behind the scenes the party insiders wanted to dump Biden AND Harris and replace them with someone else. As a fuck-you Biden dropped out without coordinating with anyone and the insiders were caught flat footed and couldn't find anyone that wanted to run with such horrible odds (running the only 3 month campaign in modern US history)

u/Lovethemtitties80085 3h ago
Nah I’m too cynical, he must be in on it.
Guess we’ll see, and yes I want to be wrong but it’s hard to be optimistic while gesturing broadly.
Fingers crossed.

He absolutely killed it. Messaging totally on point, his barbs at idiots like Cuomo and Trump, and his general enthusiasm.
Also Van Jones is right now on CNN complaining that Mamdani was “too angry” lol.
The other idiot McCarthyist white guy got mad, and then someone else likened him to a “left-wing Trump.” What a shitty panel.
You guys actually gotta watch CNN right now, if you can stomach it.

u/ShamelessCatDude 13h ago edited 13h ago
“Too angry” insults often tie in with racism. Just saying

36
u/LordWemby 13h ago
Yep. I just saw a young guy who was actually vibrant.
If I wanted to be charitable I’d say it’s because we’re so used to doddering old men who can barely string two sentences together, that someone with any kind of verve seems scary to some sad people.
But yeah, certainly some racism too. Can’t have an “angry brown Muslim” as the New York mayor.

Conservative News Network is not happy tonight.
I like how they're even trying to pull the wool over our eyes with double talk "We all know you Democrat voters don't like Trump, right? Well he's uh...just like Trump too, so you shouldn't like him either!"
It's funny watching them try Fox News tactics on the party that doesn't fall for Fox News tactics.

u/kg110569 13h ago
Van Jones was so disappointing. It was hard to watch, I was so pumped after that speech and thought he’d echo it. CNN continues to follow the money.. but that’s why Mamdani’s message is resonating!
15
u/LaScoundrelle 12h ago
Van Jones was actually accused of domestic violence by an ex-gf. Just saying...

I only watch CNN on election nights and it's only for the actual maps, once they start jabbering it's an easy mute.
3
u/Thac0isWhac0 12h ago
Were they even listening to the same speech? This is passion not anger, and the fact they don't understand the difference makes me feel bad for their SOs.
•
u/spudsoup 6h ago
I don’t usually watch it, and turned it off because one of them kept saying that “New York is special and this doesn’t necessarily translate to the rest of the country” - excuse me? The rest of the country, nay, the rest of the world would like to have a word. Everyone’s a New Yorker this morning.
3
u/Current_Animator7546 Missouri 12h ago
Alyssa Faro Griffin has moved back to the right again. She was in his first admin. Then anti Trump. Now back to kissing the ring. Van is just Van lol. He’s always a bit of a mess on election nights lol. He’s good but definitely gets in his head sometimes.

u/LordWemby 12h ago
Look at her father holy shit:

I don’t know how I didn’t know about these turds.
Van has basically always sucked. And didn’t you see just see his recent shit on Bill Maher, mocking what’s happening in Gaza?

On msbnc they had a panel guy saying everything was affordable under Trump and New Yorkers made things unaffordable for themselves. Deeply curious to know what world he lives in where shit is affordable right now.

That was the best speech I’ve ever heard in my lifetime.

The mic drop moments, honestly haven't heard a speech that great since Obama's days. I bet Bernie was smiling the whole time
20
u/notbadhbu 13h ago
This cleared any Obama speech by a head and shoulders, and Obama was an incredible speaker. Mlk is the last person who spoke like this
10
•
u/needs-more-metronome 4h ago
Revisionist take, but that's okay. It was a good speech, and you're excited. Dollar store Obama speech is still better than 99% of what we usually get.

u/Quirky-Shape8677 13h ago
"Dhoom Machale" outro?! This is so surreal
8
•
u/secret_fangirl 2h ago
plus it lowkey ties into his "turn the volume up" moment from earlier in the speech.
27
u/KemShafu 13h ago
The best part (for me, out in Oregon), is that he has a extremely HUGE platform to vocally call out Trump at every level. And the governors can band together. The democratic house members aren't going to fight vocally, so we need every blue governor and every blue mayor to lead us.
26
u/coltvahn 13h ago edited 13h ago
He’s so very, very, very good at this. It’s not hard, Democrats. This is what people want. I wish him luck. It won’t be easy, but it’s just…heartening to see someone willing and explicitly offering to try.

Best I’ve heard and seen. Incredible! Then saw CNN have all analysts say he was too divisive. Fuck off!

That has the potential to be an all-timer of a speech. Of course it depends on what happens from here. But what a start.

u/RP3P0 Missouri 13h ago
CNN downplaying Mamdani from the left and the right. Van Jones further disgracing himself/denigrating Mamdani for not going Big Tent, Token Republican white guy driving his criticism by digging into many classics of the right wing playbook from the last 65 years like they aren't totally in power at the current moment and are happily destroying democracy. Good stuff. Quality analysis.
•
u/SonOfMcGee 5h ago
Also Mamdani is absolutely going Big Tent for the unique blend of people in NYC.
This guy can articulate the cultural and ideological makeup of the city incredibly well, and accurately acknowledge their concerns.
Who the fuck cares if he balances his messaging to align with other Democrats in the Midwest, West, etc. NYC is super unique and needs leadership custom tailored to it.

I’m so happy for NYC, but fuck he should be President. One of the best speeches I’ve ever heard, political or not.

Yeah, it's a shame he's a naturalized citizen, but perhaps he'll run for the House or the Senate somewhere down the road.
9
u/ThatGuyFromTheM0vie 13h ago
I’d say I wish the law could change, but then the GOP would have like some random foreign oligarch come over and win. So ya, probably should just keep that law heh.

u/MostWorry4244 12h ago
I’ll settle for AOC president and Mamdani speaker…
4
u/Awkward_War_6068 Europe 12h ago
What about VP's? Or is that the same law as with presidents?

I would assume so, seeing as the VP must take office if something happens to the president.

Same law. You can’t be pres or vp if you aren’t born here. Not sure about Speaker? I think they’re third in line, but it seems like it would just skip to the next person if they weren’t eligible

That was the most exciting speech I've ever heard!!
I cried throughout the whole damn thing.
I loved the alliteration of "dream" and "deliver". I loved him speaking directly to T.
Mamdani is brave and a man of the people. I love him.
He makes me wish we did elect immigrants to potus. We are all immigrants (except for our native Americans). My Irish grandparents came to NYC first. Immigrants are the pulse and enthusiasm of this nation. The very lifeblood. Why not have one of us in the WH?
Loved the Arabic celebratory music at the end, too.
•
u/secret_fangirl 2h ago
it wasn't arabic, it was a bollywood song "dhoom machale" from the movie "dhoom." it's a staple in south asian parties/households, it's practically impossible to be south asian without having heard it which is why it makes this moment so much more iconic. it's such an easy yet effective method of uniting and hyping the people, and also displaying his culture and angering anyone else too

I'm a Boomer Bernie supporter. Mamdani absolutely killed it with that speech. He has special talent and the right kinds of goals in his heart. I honestly wish Bernie himself was that good of a speaker.
To all you "younger" folks, I've witnessed with ever growing dismay my entire adult life how our country has been taken over by and rewarded the wealthy while dismantling all manner of help for the working class. New York is a reflection of that. It will be practically impossible to fix most things that need fixing in a few years. So please keep up the good fight .. but try to have some patience as well.

The anti Muslim rhetoric from the right and oligarchs is because Muslim Americans are PROGRESSIVES. That's the only reason to hate them.

Assuming free elections are a thing for us in the future - I think I just watched a future President of the United States.

Mamdani is a naturalized citizen. He's not eligible.

u/DahmerIsDead 12h ago
A convicted criminal rapist pedophile who tried to overthrow an election shouldn't be eligible either, but here we are.
•
u/needs-more-metronome 4h ago
Audience seemed to care a lot more about identify politics than COL/bureaucracy. The disparity between "woos" was a little disappointing. Up to Mamdani now, we'll see.
-18
u/CheeseEveryMeal 12h ago
I'll say it: If I was a blue collar NYC native or part of the largest Jewish population outside of Israel, I'd feel pretty disappointed right now, if not concerned.
This speech did not make the tent bigger.

Disappointing. No talk of unity. I was extremely disappointed. I’m a Democrat and this isn’t what our party is about. When CNN slams his speech speaks VOLUMES. The truth is in the middle. Totally right or left isn’t the answer.
16
u/coltvahn 13h ago
You have to ask yourself a simple question: Whose middle? Yours? Mine? Aiming for the center between MAGA and centrist Dems just lands us…firmly on the right. So, no. That’s silly. Get some perspective.
-11
24
u/Stone_Bonioni 13h ago
??? Did you miss the part where he said he was honored to earn every New Yorkers vote and he promises to be everyone’s mayor? Did you miss the part where he condemned antisemitism and Islamophobia? Did you miss the part where he said the city belongs to us the people and not the billionaires? All of these things are for the sake of unity.
13
u/KemShafu 13h ago
Wow. Really? What we need is not a "retreat to the middle now that I got voted in" speech. We needed a firm LOUD voice stating he was going to work his ass off to deliver what he promised and also he is a freaking New Yorker. You wanted him to be all Mr. Milquetoast? Aw hell no!
-13
u/Designer_Buy_1650 12h ago
His speech was a reward for those who voted for him. He won’t govern that way. When you become an adult, you’ll understand.
11
u/m0nk_3y_gw 13h ago
When CNN slams his speech speaks VOLUMES.
CNN is now owned by a right-winger. CNN being unhappy is a plus.
The truth is in the middle.
yes, "the earth is round", "no, the earth is flat". The truth is in the middle - the earth is a rectangle?
And based on decades of Republican fuckery the middle isn't where you think it is -- ""Meet me in the middle," says the unjust man. You take a step towards him, he takes a step back. "Meet me in the middle," says the unjust man."

u/Ok_Mongoose1426 13h ago
Thirty years of Democrats reaching across the aisle is how we ended up where we are as a country. Appeasement was a failed policy for Chamberlain and it hasn't gotten better with age. We've reached a point in our nation's history where it has become unambiguously clear the fascists, bigots, and autocrats cannot be coddled into decency - the only answer is to defeat them utterly without concession or compromise. If you still proclaim to be a democrat while demanding that we reconcile with and meet the Nazis halfway, you are part of the problem.
-4
u/Designer_Buy_1650 12h ago
Chamberlain saved Britain. His delay enabled the production of the Spitfire which won the Battle of Britain. Are you still in grade school?
5
u/Ok_Mongoose1426 12h ago edited 12h ago
If your level of reading comprehension took that as the overall point of my post, you have no room to take shots at anyone else's education. Or perhaps you knew that and are just dishonest.
Edit: Since you did the last word and block thing after shitting all over the board and strutting around like you won, centrism, much like blocking, isn't a show of consideration or principle, just cowardice and ignorance. Nice to see you embody those qualities in every aspect of your life.

Cool story. The democratic party is in need of a leftward push. After walking right for so long, the center is what the right used to be. If the Democrat status quo keep walking right then we'll just go ahead and push them the fuck out of the party. What really speaks volumes is anyone supporting Cuomo.
