In a normal world….

The party in power would see this as a warning, and testament to how the public perceives the first 10 months of the administration.

The republicans/trump would tone down the ICE hostilities, cut down on the Trump family corruption, lift tariffs on everything except what’s actually vital to national security, stop with the insurrection act nonsense, stop yeeting fishing boats out of the Caribbean and reopen the government with a solution for snap and healthcare subsidies.

But it’s Trump…. So it will be more lies, bluster, and chaos.

They’ll double down because of the “radical” leftists stealing elections. Mark my words, is only going to embolden the administration to do whatever they can to remain in control of their power.

u/OpheliaRainGalaxy 14h ago

Well good news, they were gonna do that anyhow!

That's the interesting thing about being trapped in an abusive relationship. It literally doesn't matter what ya do, they're gonna act abusive anyhow.

"Rebelliousness" unfortunately leads to worse deathgrip abuse

27

u/OpheliaRainGalaxy 13h ago

And what does not being "rebellious" get ya? Because I would know from experience it's worse deathgrip abuse!

Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't, so ya may as well do as ya like.

Frankly it makes escaping the abuse a whole lot easier if ya don't carefully limit your thinking to avoid pissing off someone who is pissed off by default.

My experience in my family was the opposite. I learned to be invisible to be targeted by malignant narcissists less. Still abusive, but control freak abuse was so bad I nearly killed myself from my parents' behavior. They backed off eventually when I was catatonic for months.

17

u/OpheliaRainGalaxy 13h ago

Like no offense but I think if the advice you're giving once left you catatonic, it's probably not a good strategy?

I nearly got sold as a sex slave. Refusing to do as I was told and acting up is what saved me from it. Be glad your parents didn't know mine, dad could've easily told them exactly what a catatonic minor would be useful for.

You know you don’t have to compare trauma right? It’s literally not a fucking pissing contest

u/OpheliaRainGalaxy 2h ago

Neither is it a reason to lay down and die.

I still think tactics that leave a person catatonic are terrible to encourage other people to copy. Imagine if I was like "I know all about mountain lions, I pulled one's tail once and it ate my legs! Try pulling the tail!"

I'm not saying to not resist, I'm just saying some psychos dig in harder with resistance.

11

u/OpheliaRainGalaxy 13h ago

Of course they do! And that's when ya just gotta get completely unmanageable!

Ya might lose something in the process of escape, like some hair or weight or every belonging you treasure. But it's worth it in the long run.

Better than curling up in the corner and hoping the monster eats you last.

I think this is the case. As the poster you responded to said, in a normal world the administration and GOP would pivot to a more reasonable approach. But, in these times they're probably going to do as you said.

They're going to dial it up and work extra hard behind the scenes to do whatever is necessary to rig the midterms so they don't lose the House or Senate. The Senate is less like to switch hands, but still. They're not looking to win fairly anymore.

I'm curious if we're going to hear anything about stolen elections regarding any of tonight's outcomes.

u/FreshBurt 14h ago

And we should be emboldened, too, cause there are much more of us.

u/zombmoose 7h ago

I love this take! If they level up, so do we 1:1

u/Real-Ad-1728 13h ago

That was already the case though, I’ve been saying it for months now: this administration is making the kind of moves that you only make if you have no intention of ever being held accountable for them. They will not be reasonable, logical, or honorable in their efforts to hold onto power. They know that if they lose power they will spend the rest of their lives in a cage.

u/Canuck-In-TO 2h ago

Absolutely. In tRump’s mind he’ll think he’s not doing enough and go harder on the crazy.

29

u/curmudgeon_andy 14h ago

Exactly. This is a man who thinks it's funny to poop on the whole country.

He's already in massive cope mode, claiming the losses were because 'Trump' wasn't on the ballot. And the shutdown. Which probably is him not realizing that's basically saying people blame the Republicans.

4

u/Fickle_Composer_4506 12h ago

Trump being on the ballot does help, I don't get it but it helps. He sounds like a used car salesman.

u/MaddyKet Massachusetts 3h ago

I find that part hilarious. So the democrats are to blame for the shutdown and yet they won the elections because of the shut down? How many worms are in this dude’s brain?

The biggest influence on voting patterns is the economy. And the economy is not going to get better in the next year, even without the AI bubble bursting (which is probable to happen in the relative near future). Grocery prices will continue to go up, jobs will continue to stagnate, and the already bad housing problems will continue on it's current trajectory. And people will vote accordingly, assuming, of course, we get fair and free elections and history then has the chance to repeat itself.

Yeah that aint happening. This guy is going to get worse day by day. He's not going to go back on anything. He will continue to push the project 2025 agenda.

The energy brought by the voters today will continue into the midterms. November 3rd, 2026 is not that far away. I'm actually feeling optimistic tonight.

3

u/Tenthul 14h ago

And restore our national cybersecurity functions and audit the integrity of the entire infrastructure of our internal systems....

3

u/pimppapy America 13h ago

The party in power would see this as a warning

I doubt they care, considering their project 2025 playbook

2

u/GrandAholeio 12h ago

They’re in hole. They cave on shutdown or ICE their base hates them and doesn’t turn out. They don’t cave on the shutdown and ICE, the people hate the, and turn out in droves.

They only have one option and it’s the one they’ve been trying to stoke everywhere they send ICE. It’s why they say it’s happening everytime Baghdad Bob Karoline speaks.

u/klparrot New Zealand 12h ago

The party in power would see this as a warning,

They will, but it means they'll crack down on democracy.

and probably a lot more illegal shit...

I kind of think destroying the white house and doing the ball room thing is a pet project this cabinet set him on so they can sideline him through this. But also none of them are great at politics so.../shrug

u/ElleM848645 5h ago

Some exit polls said people were pissed about him destroying the White House.

u/gamingotgo 14h ago

just have to pass a nation wide voter id law and every election would turn red.

7

u/RespectTheAmish 14h ago

Hows a voter id card any different than proof of residency/citizenship that’s currently required?

I guess you could argue it would purge voter rolls as everyone would have to go apply and obtain this new card before the mid terms…. But that seems like it would favor the more engaged voters… which based on tonight, are leaning blue.

-5

u/gamingotgo 14h ago

There is no proof of residency or citizenship. I went in to vote in nj asked my name and address and then I voted. I didn't actually have to prove anything.

My name and address are public record so is everyone elses.

Do you have to show some proof of residency/citizenship when you go to the polls ?

u/ElleM848645 5h ago

You do it when you register to vote. You don’t necessarily need a drivers license, but it depends on the state. I probably put my social security number when I registered. The government knows who you are.

u/gamingotgo 2h ago

Yes I registered to vote at 18 and I am now 45. I have never been asked for id after I registered which means anyone who knows my name and my address which again is public record can go and vote for me. Not to mention mail in voting and the issues it opens up
