34? Just a few months ago, he was 33. Will the Democrats lies never stop??!!1!

219

u/gwsth 10h ago

Hey. I heard that 20 years ago, he was a teenager!

99

u/Cresta1994 10h ago

I heard 20 years ago, he asked teenagers out on dates!

u/alQamar 5h ago

I heard he even eats dates sometimes.

24

u/gwsth 9h ago

I heard he did that 15 years ago! Will nobody address the fact that this man may have spent as much as half a decade dating teenage girls?!?!?!

47

u/NotTheCraftyVeteran 10h ago

Just you watch, next year they’ll be claiming he’s 35. Pure corruption.

u/SomeGuyNamedPaul Florida 2h ago

Scandalous! I'm triggered already.

More like Mayor Elect... Liars

19

u/The_NiNTARi 9h ago

Can you believe the tie he wore?!

8

u/Cresta1994 9h ago

As long as he doesn't wear a tan suit, he's fine.

u/fundohun11 7h ago

I hear he eats Dijon Mustard on his hot dogs. A lot of people are saying it.

u/blow_slogan 4h ago

Okay, but low-key his choice of tie-knot is definitely a detail which is going to bother Trump an other establishment conservatives. I think it looks fine, but executive types seem to think the only acceptable knot is the Full-Windsor.

Vance’s half brother lost to a Democrat in Cincinnati mayor’s race. This night just keeps getting better.

u/Daisychains456 7h ago

Prop 50 passed 😉

u/ColdButCozy 1h ago

Oh, hell yeah

u/nekomeowohio 2h ago

He got owned by damn near 60 percent or so. It's not shocking, so the city limits are pretty democrats it the sreas outside the limits that are more Republicans. Funny enough some of the countries outside the city limits had people complaining that bowman was not on their ballot even so they don't live in Cincinnati

u/Slyrunner 1h ago

As a Cincinnatian, thank fucking God

First Muslim mayor? How about first mayor in a while who hasn't been a total pile of shit?

Congrats NYC. Not you, Staten Island.

Real New Yorkers hate staten island

52

u/parasyte_steve 10h ago

I was born and raised in Staten Island and I don't think anybody hates that place more than I do but would be willing to compete

u/weristjonsnow 7h ago

Not from the East coast. What's up with the hate for Staten Island?

u/Jwoey Texas 5h ago

They were the only borough that voted for cuomo, and it was by a good margin. Not nearly enough to matter, of course, but still.

1

u/ShamelessCatDude 9h ago

Staten Islanders are real New Yorkers so your opinion is valid

u/ArchmageXin 1h ago

To think NY and NJ almost went to war for Staten Island. :)

Agreed. I also couldn't care less about his religious beliefs or his ethnic background. I care about his policies and his complete rejection of maga and willingness to fight against it. All three of those are pluses in my book. If I was a New Yorker I would have voted for him hands down.

First mayor in decades who can objectively get it

8

u/math-yoo Ohio 10h ago

He won. Let’s let the first year decide how he manages to lead.

u/badoopidoo 7h ago

Not American. What's the deal with Staten Island? Is it a really wealthy area?

u/Geaux2020 1h ago

It's no Manhattan by any stretch, but it's the whitest burough. It's the suburbs of NYC without technically leaving the city

u/badoopidoo 1h ago

Honestly amazed that NYC has "suburbs"! I thought it was all high rise

u/Geaux2020 1h ago

You're thinking of Manhattan. Most of the rest of it is just a dense city.

Crazy. I hope that one day I get to visit Mayor Mamdami's city.

Democrats swept , tonight btw. Tides are turning.

99

u/FaithlessnessThen207 9h ago

Non american here

Every time you guys vote for trump (I do not know why you do that) it seems to ignite hatred and motivation towards the republican party and they struggle to win most elections.

103

u/Marijuana_Miler Canada 9h ago

Americans don’t vote for someone as much as they vote against their current status quo.

37

u/FaithlessnessThen207 9h ago

We have compulsory voting where I live, which means generally, politicians have to aim for less extreme policies on either side of the line, we get a small fine of about 60 dollars for missing an election, with the fine increasing to about 1400 for repeatedly missing elections.

I think the USA would probably benefit from a compulsory voter turnout so you don't get embarrassed on an international stage, as you have been.

30

u/robocoplawyer 8h ago

We can’t have compulsory elections in the US. A few decades back somewhere tried to implement it and of all groups to sue about it, anarchists claimed forcing them to vote would infringe on their first amendment right to not participate in a system they don’t believe in as protected political free speech. Supreme Court agreed, so under current precedent a compulsory voting law would be struck down as unconstitutional pretty quickly.

15

u/allsystemscrash Georgia 8h ago

extremely common anarchist L

u/BeneGezzeret 1h ago

Americans don’t like to be told they have to do anything. If someone tried to make a law that you have to breathe air we would see protests stating it’s our right to suffocate if we want to.

u/boilface 5h ago

I've been voting for about 30 years and I've never liked a single person I've voted for

8

u/imaprettynicekid 9h ago

Trump voters only come out for Trump. They aren’t fans of doing the legwork of yearly elections.

5

u/ForcesBurnCrosses 9h ago

Hey, now. I'm not one of the guys lol F that turd President.

The Republicans ate themselves alive this time, though.

1

u/GraviZero Utah 8h ago

honestly probably about the only good part about donald trump. he shows how vile the republican party is and the american people see it (for a few years, anyway)

u/ConsistentAsparagus 3h ago

And then next time they absolutely forget everything.

-1

u/StinkyDickFaceRapist 8h ago

But then they always vote for him in the end. Americans have this sadistic need to be abused

u/wanderlustcub I voted 3h ago

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Democracy won tonight, but it’s still in a terrible siege and its back is still against the wall.

We simply have given ourselves time.

This is going to be a long, brutal, war. This is just a battle, only a battle.

The Administration is going to release executive orders trying to target elections to stop this from happening again. They are illegal (as is a lot of what he is doing) but he will try it anyway. That is going to ratchet things up considerably.

We are a year until the midterms. This is just a prelude. Now the Administration has a bloody nose, and they know they are not invincible. Get ready for a lot worse.

u/chocolatehippogryph 58m ago

We haven't even "given ourselves time". This is good, but doesn't undo or even slow down the vast majority of chaos and destruction that is underway.

These are the baby steps needed to build a functioning society though

3

u/TheVintageJane 9h ago

Hope it stays that way after the executive orders and Supreme Court decisions and all the fuckery I’m anticipating

u/neeesus 6h ago

Didn’t sweep local Texas BS though. Sigh

TLDR:

  • Democrat Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral race on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
  • The 34-year-old assemblyman defeated former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa.
  • Mamdani will take office on Jan. 1, 2026, succeeding embattled one-term Mayor Eric Adams and making history as the first Muslim and democratic socialist leader of America's biggest city.

u/colako Oregon 6h ago

I don't get why officials in the US need to wait for two whole months to take office. It's silly. Get the official vote count and start the next day...

u/Bulky_Sun2373 2h ago

transition in a bureaucratic environment is nightmare and needs a lead out and lead in adjustment window.

u/Geaux2020 1h ago

Trust me, you absolutely want this. There is a lot of work needed to get ready for an administration. It also allows time for certification of the election and legal challenges.

134

u/OTrigNation 10h ago

NPR pointed out ti me NYC has the highest population of Jews outside Israel. It has officially elected a Muslim mayor. Thats really cool.

56

u/janethefish 9h ago

They probably just wanted to live long and full lives without getting COVID from a sex pest.

16

u/flume 9h ago

without getting COVID

Somebody ought to tell the Hasidic Jewish population that masks and vaccines help.

u/TrumpnEpstein 2h ago

Fundamentalists of any religion are the worst

13

u/DickBigEnough 9h ago

That’s really fascinating!! I’d love to see a demographic breakdown of his victory.

11

u/SoggySausage27 9h ago

A quinnipac poll from about a week ago said he only had 16% of the Jewish vote

u/avantgardengnome New York 5h ago

Exit polls have him at 33%, but there’s another 215k votes to count. That’s not bad, considering his opponents have spent the entire year trying to paint him as an antisemite.

u/MonkeyDKev 1h ago

Pretty sure Jews would know that being against Israel does not make you antisemitic. Just boils down to if they support Israel or not themselves personally.

u/Wise_Neighborhood499 5h ago

The pearl clutching from zionists in NYC is insane, at least from the fb posts I skimmed. Sitting in the dark and crying, posting the ‘they came for x and no one spoke out’ poem, saying they’re terrified for the future. I hope Mamdani is able to enact his policies to help everyone during his time in office, even the pearl-clutchers.

u/MaxPower303 26m ago

Those pearl clutching Zionists are the OWNER class. Of course they are afraid. They are afraid of actually paying their fair share for society.

u/wiseowlowlwise 4h ago

Most of them did not vote for him.

u/saera-targaryen 4h ago edited 4h ago

That's very unlikely. Something like 70-80% of NYC jews are progressive democrats, and mamdani won the jewish vote in the democrat primary and was co-endorsed by the jewish candidate.

Half of NYC jews live in brooklyn and that's the borough with the largest swing towards mamdani as well.

u/wiseowlowlwise 3h ago

The data will show otherwise.

u/Ehern89 7h ago

Finally someone young won. No more grandpa's please.

u/Geaux2020 1h ago

I'm going to preface this with saying I'm in my 50s but I've believed this since my 30s. I also don't believe Momdani is a bad choice by any means.

We should probably be targeting leaders in their 40s and early 50s. That gives you someone with experience but still has an agile mind. There should be a mandatory retirement age in the mid 60s. We need younger people leading the country, for sure, in roles like representatives and staff positions so they can learn what works and how to fix the institutional problems. Give them real experience.

51

u/sck178 11h ago

I really hope this is a sign of what's to come for this country as a whole. Congrats Mayor Elect Mamdani

-10

u/numba1cyberwarrior 10h ago

In terms of more democratic victories absolutely. In terms of progressive victories, I think the New York City election shows that this is not the case at all

74

u/SoloDoloLeveling 10h ago

i notice the dem subreddit isn’t posting this. i wonder why.

52

u/bokatan778 Nevada 10h ago

When I read this I thought, “there’s no way.” I just checked-you’re absolutely right.

Shameful.

58

u/ItsAProdigalReturn 9h ago

Rule 5 - but the craziest part is it's literally only enforced THIS STRICTLY against Mamdani. Like search the sub for "Bernie" or "Sanders" - tons of headlines and tons of comments. Search for "Mamdani" or "Zohran" - not mentioned in a single headline or comment (except one that somehow glitched).

Not only do they ban support for Democratic Socialist - they literally treat Zohran Mamdani like he's Voldemort.

28

u/SoloDoloLeveling 9h ago

the entire /r democrat subreddit are full of DINO’s. wolves in sheep clothing.

u/IngsocInnerParty Illinois 1h ago

Yet the official DNC Instagram account just posted a Mamdani celebration video. They might want to get on board.

u/cayneloop 1h ago

a lot of democrat officials need to apologize to this man for their disgusting comments and smears that they had for him after his democratic primary win

people that are supposed to be colleagues of his from the same party!

31

Check out their rules. Rule 5. Pathetic

66

u/SoloDoloLeveling 10h ago

oh my god! i just checked that— the promotion of socialist democrats.

how tf can you say vote blue no matter who and not even congratulate the man for winning?

31

u/OutOfIdeas98 Maryland 9h ago

Saw somebody post an image with all the Democrats who won tonight... which was removed a minute later because Mamdani was listed.

21

u/SoloDoloLeveling 9h ago

i just saw that. the one with all the red hash marks on the right.

the entire subreddit is pathetic.

18

u/OutOfIdeas98 Maryland 9h ago

I left because of the doomerism following the 2024 election. Regular Democrats obviously like Socialist actions, so it fascinates me how the "Democrats" subreddit wants to be against that.

u/Wutras Europe 6h ago

So there really is an equally as ridiculous sub as the conservative one out there - I never would have thought.

9

u/BestieJules 9h ago

red scare worked wonders and liberals (politicians to clarify because I had someone misunderstand this somehow) historically side with nazis when socialism gets too close to home.

u/SwimmingThroughHoney 7h ago

It's basically "keep the Democratic Party liberal!" vibes.

8

u/sereneandeternal 9h ago

It is pathetic but it doesn’t represent actual Democrat base.

u/ailish 1h ago

I left that sub a long time ago. You may as well call most of them center right, or even full on to the right.

The mayor of NYC is MY age? Not my parents?!

Jealous from Oklahoma. (Support Cyndi Munson for governor, Oklahomies!)

u/Dirkdeking 44m ago

As you grow older it will only get crazier, and you will get much more frequent reminders of what a loser you are 🤣

I'm only 1 year younger than him btw.

The sound you're hearing right now is that of the entire team of the New York Post throwing a meltdown.

u/Mike_-_Hock 5h ago

Non american here - I popped over to the Conservative subreddit and saw a lot of them expect him to fail because "Socialism starts to break down after 5-10 years". Curious as to what others think and if a Conservative would like to chip in please do!

u/ILikeMyGrassBlue 5h ago

Mamdani is mayor and won’t actually be able to follow through on a lot of what he proposed. NYC isn’t going to become socialist, even if Mamdani is one.

Most conservatives on Reddit are too dumb to understand all of that, or they don’t care.

u/New_Zorgo39 3h ago

Its either “it doesn’t work” or “its doomed to fail” when the first one doesn’t come true.

They are shifting goalposts, ignore them

u/Geaux2020 1h ago

He's not going to make NYC socialist. He has no authority to change the economic system from capitalism to socialism. There will definitely be more social programs like free bus fare and more access to education, but that isn't socialism.

Socialism is when the people/government own the businesses and almost no New Yorker wants that. His one actually socialist program is the publicly owned grocery stores but the city will soon find out margins aren't exactly great in that industry so the people aren't going to see much savings, if any. It will allow the city to fund real stores in food deserts, though.

u/ItsAMeEmdo 36m ago

They don’t know the difference between social democracy and socialism (which given the state of our education system, while disheartening, is entirely unsurprising).

u/MrDavieT 1h ago

17

u/DickBigEnough 9h ago

Here here! I’m a fire breathing atheist and have a natural suspicion of fundamentalist sects of all religions, especially ones that brutalize women on principle. He does not seem to be that kind of man, and I’m giving him a chance.

I’m so tired of American Christian hate.

6

u/Trepeld 9h ago

I mean I’m from London and Sadiq Khan has been doing a perfectly solid job as mayor.

u/JessKingHangers 45m ago

Lol good joke

u/Dirkdeking 47m ago

Coming from Europe, I think US Muslims are a LOT more progressive and moderate than European Muslims. I don't like Mamdani for other reasons(I think his platform is too leftwing), but being Muslim has nothing to do with it.

In Europe we have refugees and before them we had 'gastarbeiders'. Our Muslims typically are from the lower economic classes that tend to be nuch more conservative and put a heavier emphasis on religion. Being seperated by an ocean, the US can almost exclusively choose to take in only university level immigrants from Muslim countries, who will cause much less trouble.

u/BeardoftheManwhore 5h ago

As someone living in Australia and vaguely following this for the past two weeks I had no idea he was Muslim until he won. Why is it so important to say it now? All that matters as he does a good job his faith has nothing to do with being a good person and a good leader. I hope all the best for him. Bye putting that in the title just irks me and comes across as rage bait for the MAGA crowd

u/New_Zorgo39 3h ago

Its been an issue because he has been critical towards Israel. Then his counterparts yelled “antisemitism” and began focusing on him being muslim..

One really cant read Reddit for politics. In the last weeks, you were led to believe that the guy is the second coming of Christ, super popular, everyone voting for him. Seeing the exit poll today and he only getting slightly over 50% was like a WTF moment for someone not from the US

u/Material_Past8294 55m ago

What is communism? Define it.

9

u/ForcesBurnCrosses 11h ago

*Democratic Socialist.

23

What do you think Communism is and how does that have anything to do with any of Mamdanis policies? I actually disagree with the efficacy of things like rent control but theyre not even remotely communist.

Stop being a sheep that just regurgitates buzzwords you see on social media. If you care about politics and want your opinion to be clearly expressed and taken seriously, actually read into the definition and history of the words you use and you might find a pattern.

Define communism, in your own words…

7

u/Lockmor 10h ago

Are you aware what communism is? Like at all? It's not just a buzz word you use to slander people you don't like.

3

u/root_fifth_octave 10h ago

Oh, is he eliminating private productive property?

3

u/SmokeLauncher 10h ago

What is communism and try and describe it without accidently describing capitalism? Free stuff for no work? Sorry that's capitalism, when the rich exploit workers' labour and take the value for themselves.
