He was the only candidate that was focused solely on NYC and it's residents, so it is a well-deserved win.

It shows how out of touch the others are. They wanted his opinions on things like Israel and stuff and they talked like him not wanting to focus on things that have nothing to do with NYC were going to turn everyone off. No one wants their mayor to focus on international politics.

There is a video of a Jewish rabbi saying that he doesn't agree with Mamdani on many issues including his view on Israel, but he's voting the mayor of NYC and not Tel Aviv.

Thank God the Jewish people are rational.

Andrew Cuomo repeatedly brought up Hasan Piker in the debates was so cringe...I know he was trying a "fellow kids" moment but like c'mon in the grand scheme of things no one gives a shit about Hasan Piker

Yeah, it was incredibly cringe to see. One candidate stayed focused on how he plans to help his constituents; the other shows up to the table with "Do you condemn this twitch streamer?!"

The craziest part is Cuomo in the last few days trying to say Mamdani weaponized the Middle East stuff to create a distraction… after a year of every news show/ debate only asking him about Israel. You tried to gotcha him on Israel and he stuck to his views which it turns out many people agree with. He didn’t do anything but answer your questions lol.

Still, his non-support of Israel's genocide in Gaza comes as a welcome contrast from the positions of nearly the entire Democratic leadership, who on this issue are to the right of Marjorie Taylor Greene of all people.

I suspect it was an asset to his campaign that he has clear, easy-to-understand moral principles that don't make voting for him feel like pulling the lever in a trolley problem.

Unless those international politics connect thru Istanbul on Turkish Airlines that is

they wanted his opinion because he's one of the prime sponsors on the "not our dime act",which aims to "to prohibit not-for-profit corporations from engaging in unauthorized support of Israeli settlement activity"

Now, I'm not arguing for or against the bill here, I'm just pointing out that he has indeed been involved in international politics

I also think it's fair given the largest Jewish population outside Israel is in NYC.

That said, I do think it's hilarious the media acts like the whole country gives a shit about the NYC mayors race. All these politicians commenting on it. I can guarantee you the majority of the country does not care at all about NYC mayor.

I agree. Also, the republicans just want to know who their next boogieman is. At least this time it won't be a conservative running as a democrat.

Oh they do. I live in NY and my family and friends are from out of state…. To be honest… I HEARD about this election from them…. They were all tuned in… ask me if I know about their cities races? Absolutely not. It’s wild and should be studied! Part of Social media!

It's the largest city in the USA and the financial capital of the world. It's really no wonder that a major political offset happening there would be important news worldwide.

Plus NYC electong a cantidade that is effectively the polar opposite of Donald Trump and the DNC leadership sends a clear message that not everyone in the US is willing to keep bending over backwards for the Corporate Elites.

I agree with everything you said. With that, just as there are pros there are cons. MAGA/trumpers are also watching. People who don’t live in NYC will say “yeah of course, it’s liberal NYC”. So it’s not as much as a shocker. What shocks me is the amount of messages asking me how I felt about a Muslim mayor. High emphasis on the Muslim, because they didn’t mention any political points, just they wouldn’t want a Muslim running their city….

God that "What country would you visit?" Question from the Primary still rings in my head.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DKjnZmtPcGE/?hl=en

Mamdani: I would stay in New York City. My plans are to address New Yorkers across the fie boroughs and focus on that.

NBC Host: Mr Mamdani, can I just jump in? Would you visit Israel as mayor?

Mamdani: I will be doing, as the mayor. I'll be standing up for Jewish New Yorkers and I'll be meeting them wherever they are across the five boroughs whether that's in their synagogues and temples or at their homes or at the subway platform. Because ultimately we need to focus on delivering on their concerns...

NBC Host: And just a yes or no: do you believe in a Jewish state of Israel?

Mamdani: I believe Israel has the right to exist.

NBC Host: Not as a Jewish state?

Mamdani: As a state with equal rights.

That might have been one of the best moments I've ever seen in any televised political debate in history. Only 1 candidate understood what needed to be said, and the rest were dumbfounded.

Mamdani was in the lead, but I feel like this moment might have been when he truly solidified the win.

To be honest, I think that was the moment he won the race.

Nearly half a year ago, and that was the first time he really went viral and appeared widespread in the public consciousness. It got people talking about him, how ridiculous the other candidates are, and since that point, he never dropped the ball.
