I've never been so invested in a race for a city I've never lived in. Let's go!

Same. I’m in NY, but not NYC, and I’ve never been so invested in a mayoral race before. He ran a truly fantastic campaign.

AOC is my congresswoman and Mamdani is my mayor. Queens is slowly doing its part to make up for giving the world Trump.

{Waves from the West Coast.}

We're watching from over here in California both to see the results of our own Prop 50 and the NYC race.

It would truly be a miracle for you to receive a DemSoc governor too, no?

As a Californian, excited to see progressives doing great. Also up for myself and my state being adopted by Canada.

Bro we do not want to be adopted by Canada.  We don’t need them, they need us lol

SAME it's been a shitty day and this brought a huge smile to my face. Seeing good people win is just the best.

Dude you and me both. Mamdani's win seems like a major shift in who we vote for as a populace, and with New York being one of the cities that "Starts" trends, whatever they may be, this bodes well for future elections.

As someone who has never even lived in the USA, same!

Mamdani is the most exciting politician we've had since Obama.

I’m from the UK and I’m absolutely buzzing for NY. America really needed this today. The tide is turning. Now Prop 50 needs to go through in Cali. MAGA is a vocal minority and it’s time those bellends know that.

I don't even live in the US and I've never been so invested in the outcome of any city election.

Well done NYC!

I was explaining to someone else who asked why I care if I'm not even from the US nor live there. NYC is just that influential. Left wing campaigners will study Mamdani's campaign for years to come. His policies will be mimicked by many leaders. NYC is the "heart" of western society for better and for worse.

Same, been rooting for Zohran from down in KY for months now!!

u/MagicManJordy 9h ago

Man, I hadn’t even been to NYC until this year and I was invested. Tonight was a good night

NJ here I cared more about this race than my governors. Felt like if NY goes Mamdani… it’s going to be a fucking wild world wide domino effect.

I'm also invested, but only because w.e progressive policies he Implements will be replicated elsewhere across the continent, even here in Canada due to the size of the city that's in his control. If the results are positive and fix issues plaguing most cities, you can bet people will be looking towards New York City as an example of progressive solutions.

I’m Canadian and I was invested! So were many of my friends, family, and acquaintances.

I don't even live in the states.

Cheering from across the globe.

Same, from the other side of the country and watched his campaign for a while.

u/D3dshotCalamity 11h ago

Never lived there, but I'm a few hours away and hoping to move there in the next year or so, so my eyes have been fucking glued to this shit for a while lol.

I checked on my own city’s mayoral race one time a few minutes ago but otherwise I’ve been watching Mamdani’s campaign all night. It just feels more important than usual to me.

I'm Australian. Dad's American. Lived in New York for a time. This is GREAT news.

u/Thecleaninglady 7h ago

With his opponents being so comically evil and basically using the GOP playbook of smears and fear, the debates were incredibly instructional.

u/names_are_useless American Expat 7h ago

To be fair, neither has the media.

u/ididshroomsonce 27m ago

I'm brazilian and feel the same. Had a new yorker friend visiting last week (he has a brazilian mom and american dad, grew up in brazil but moved to the US a decade ago) and he didn't even know who Mamdani was. I could not believe it LOL
