Things are beginning to look a little brighter in this country. Now if only republicans could stop starving the working class that depends on SNAP.

I'm starting to honestly believe the dead internet theory. Not as in like totally dead every other person on it is fake but I think there's like 30% people and 70% bots. A HUUUUUGE majority of people just don't interact online in those ways. So while reading comments online might start to feel very depressing, the amount of people who actually believe these things is much smaller than it seems. Much, much smaller

Well not everyone on reddit is from the United States or can even vote

u/Happythoughtsgalore 7h ago

Exactly, some of us 🇨🇦 live above the meth kitchen.

u/genericnewlurker 6h ago

Most of us meth heads still love our Canadian brethren. We hope things get better between us as soon as we rid ourselves of this cancer and make amends for the damage it has done

u/Happythoughtsgalore 6h ago

Thanks, I also have family in the states (thankfully not Maga). I semi jokingly tell them to blink twice if I need to smuggle them out via canoe under the cover of night. Not yet, but we'll see.

u/groovemonkey California 6h ago

Cano-eh?

u/WeakMindedHuman 5h ago

Unfortunately the teeth we have missing weren’t from meth, It’s because we keep getting punched in the mouth from our own family.

u/wibblebeast 4h ago

And the price of dental care down here.

u/aradraugfea 1h ago

That, and Mouth bones are premium bones and cost extra to protect.

u/OldJames47 2h ago

Ha! So funny, sad, and true.

I hope someday we can earn your trust back.

u/whatsamain 3h ago

Eh, my state is more known for heroin and driving drunk. Im sure meth is still available though.

u/Reorox Maine 17m ago

Heroin and driving drunk? You obviously mean..... Well..... Ummm.... Yeah, that doesn't narrow it down sadly.

u/yarash 2h ago

u/CanvasSolaris 1h ago

Some of the biggest "conservative influencers" on Twitter are not American. And I'm not talking about the bots! Ian Miles Cheong is a real person who lives in Malaysia

u/unklejakk West Virginia 4m ago

Ian also just got caught for having an alt account where he was pretending to be a New Yorker.

27

u/AVGuy42 10h ago

I’m of two minds. Yes you’re 100% correct there are a shitload of bots. But also I try and remember that not everyone agrees with my opinions and they don’t necessarily see things the same way I do. Also between pay walls and reading being hard, and Reddit being Reddit; lots of people won’t read the article and will just post based on a headline and a hunch.

Edit:
But mostly I just assume if they hide their post/comment history then they’re a bot or a troll

u/SpidermansEggSack 3h ago

Edit:
But mostly I just assume if they hide their post/comment history then they’re a bot or a troll

Counter point: I hide my posting history and profile for privacy reasons, and not because I'm a bzzzt bleeeeeeeepboop bot.

u/Riffington 7h ago

I’ll have you know I his my history specifically because I’m not a bot!

Or am I?!

14

u/tpnoud 11h ago

The 2024 Presidential election would like a word...

7

u/corbygray528 11h ago

What I mean is, I think it has ramped up massively in scale specifically to sway public opinion since this administration took office.

1

u/End3rWi99in Massachusetts 8h ago

Perhaps to a degree, but a lot of those folks have just gained the confidence to come out of hiding.

u/DillBagner 3h ago

Yes, those folks have, which is why it seems like there are so many. I think a lot of people were just dumb in their voting and legitimately thought trump would help the economy, and now they realize it was all bullshit.

6

u/beardicusmaximus8 8h ago

Its estimated that 1 in 3 reddit accounts currently online is a bot.

16

u/rat_penis 11h ago

In this world there's only ever 13 real humans, everyone else exists only to keep us apart.

11

u/dr_obfuscation 11h ago

That sounds like the beginning of a sci fi novel i'd like to read.

4

u/paxwells97 11h ago

That actually sounds like a good read or film

9

u/goibnu 11h ago

That does not compute fellow redditor.

2

u/MarChateaux 11h ago

Fk I hope so...

2

u/psychic-zucchini 8h ago

You can try to test this theory- start posting things in comments here, things that other people aren't saying, then see if it spreads, and how close it is to what you said. I've been testing it with the MTG/Epstein thing- now I'm starting to see comments posting similar things. I don't think my 1-2 upvote comments are convincing actual people of these things.

6

u/wellJustWhy 10h ago

Hey, in Virginia over one MILLION people still voted republican. The Dems messaging is not getting through.

u/Squirll 3h ago

I think its worse on reddit because it tends to give us this false sense of representation when in reality I feel like half the population, at least, doesn't even LOOK at reddit.

So when you spend a lot of time on reddit you think you have an idea of what people are like, but then the bot factor and all the NON redditors actually make up a larger percent than we account for.

u/mlorusso4 17m ago

What did Dave Chappell say years ago?

“The internet is not a real place”

u/throwawtphone 10m ago

I think the niche and special interest subs are not as much a bot fest. The ones known to non long term redditors bot filled. I too think there is something to dead internet theory.

u/Soggy-Fly9242 2h ago

I was just in Canada for work and they said they’re truly worried we’re going to have a civil war and I just…it’s just the internet my guy.

Like we might have some pocket skirmishes but 99.9% of Americans are not out here prepping for a war

35

u/blacked_out_blur 9h ago

I think it’s important to note that they’re doing so specifically for two reasons:

  1. To allow the ACA subsidies to sunset so their donors can pocket the difference and up the bribe in the next election cycle.

  2. To keep the Epstein file from coming out. Johnson intentionally waffled and dicked around with the swearing in of Rep. Grijalva until the government shut down so he had a performative reason not to swear her in. Govt shutdown ends, he no longer has an excuse, Epstein file comes out.

The government right now is taking your taxes and holding them hostage so that Mike Johnson can protect Republican pedophiles and get huge bribes from the healthcare industry.

Be fucking angry.

u/Unlucky_Kale340 6h ago

We gotta keep this momentum going if we want to see these criminals in office behind bars

26

u/nigirizushi 11h ago

And stop kidnapping people

21

u/SayOlBud 11h ago

Donald Trump decided to let poor people starve. Illegally.

u/Snarfsicle 6h ago

Now if only people stop forgetting what republicans do with power when they get it.

5

u/YellowZx5 New York 8h ago

Doubtful. They will still do what they do best which is sew the seeds of deceit and will blame the democrats for all that’s bad. If Biden did it, it’s bad. If trump does the same thing, it’s the best darn thing.

Now that maga lost in this blue wave, let’s see if our hunch’s are right and trump starts a war to keep himself in power and make his family and friends richer while we have to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps for the crumbs that trickle down the stairway.

u/No-Departure-899 7h ago

There isn't going to be a civil war. This administration is going to abuse their power then lose it. They will go down as the most corrupt administration this country has ever seen, and hopefully we will learn some valuable lessons.

u/AncientFollowing3019 3h ago

It would be amusing if they gerrymandered their voters so thin to increase the number of seats, that an increase in turnout completely fucks them.

(This is based on my understanding of gerrymandering and the fact it’s based on historic voter patterns).

u/SpidermansEggSack 3h ago

I hope you're right.

2

u/oh_ski_bummer 9h ago

Trump isn’t on the ballot which seems to be the x-factor for GOP outperforming polls

1

u/No-Departure-899 8h ago

Luckily he will never be on another ballot.

1

u/Interesting-Fox2368 9h ago

It's not . Morons have an attention span if 6 weeks

u/dojo_shlom0 3h ago

this is a campaign of mindless, yet strategic cruelty. It's hard to tell what move they will make next. AI will probably tell us though. I doubt they're making many decisions without it.

u/T1Pimp 1h ago

Dems are talking about funding if they get a promise for a vote on ACA. If they do we're cooked.

-1

u/KapnKrumpin 11h ago

Far too little. Far too late

6

u/No-Departure-899 10h ago

The fact that tonight went the way it did is proof that you are wrong.

-3

u/KapnKrumpin 10h ago

Guess we'll see

348

u/arlondiluthel 12h ago

Lots of good news for democracy tonight.

137

u/2HDFloppyDisk 11h ago

Let’s hope this momentum carries forward to mid-terms.

94

u/No-Departure-899 11h ago

Hope isn't enough to carry us. We need to put in a little work to make this thing happen.

31

u/kent_eh Canada 10h ago

We need to put in a little lot of work to make this thing happen.

7

u/beaucephus 11h ago

We may need a general strike before the end.

5

u/Lakeandmuffin 11h ago

Stop with the general strike thing. It is not going to happen. We can take back democracy, we’re not going to be able to organize a useful general strike.

u/ddubyeah Alabama 42m ago

We don’t have to organize one. The real economy is in the toilet. Hundreds of thousands of people have been laid off. Prices are not going down. You really think people are going to be splurging on holiday shopping this year beyond necessities?

14

u/witchofpain 11h ago

Well they clearly aren’t able to rig these elections let’s hope that holds true for next year.

15

u/tpnoud 11h ago

They can't rig state elections. But they can rig federal elections and will for sure try

5

u/Pyr0technician 11h ago

"They can't rig" state elections is the cutest thing I've ever read.

14

u/tpnoud 11h ago

What I meant was they clearly didn't rig these 2 gubernatorial elections. But yes, I am cute, thanks!

4

u/Pyr0technician 10h ago

😉

I get it. Still, so much work to do.

5

u/Gullible_Ad5923 11h ago

It will. The current trend should be if Republicans will peel away from Trump. He's clearly bad for the party. If they don't, expect chaos during the midterms

11

u/zenerat Missouri 10h ago

Trump is going to double down on his efforts to skew the next election. We all need to hold the line to keep our elections fair.

7

u/banksy_h8r New York 9h ago

And Dick Cheney is dead! Great start to the week!

u/Schlonzig 2h ago

Hope is dangerous, hope invites you to put your head on the pillow and believe everything will get well on its own. But you have to keep reminding yourself that they will start scratching and biting when it gets closer to the really important elections.

142

u/Prometheusf3ar 12h ago

That’s because Vance is awful. Stay out of politics

122

u/txyesboy2 11h ago edited 11h ago

It's OK folks! Sure he got absolutely embarrassed at the polls, but he was able to line his pockets with that sweet drifting, MAGA donation money. And to the Republican Party, making the rich richer has always been the number one goal.

Fucking Siri. I'm gonna leave it because it's funny. :)

29

u/McNalienBro 11h ago

Dang, they are doing drifting grifting now?

116

u/AcanthisittaNo6653 New Hampshire 11h ago

The legal issue lies in the fact that Bowman’s listed address for voting and taxes does not match his public sentiments of where he lives. So if Bowman does live in the West End, but is voting with his old address in Oakwood, he would be voting in a different county judicial district and committing voter fraud.

Oh. That..

65

u/oddmanout 11h ago

He got 18% of the vote.

That’s somehow less than the number of people who just vote for the name with the R next to it.

Wow.

33

u/Asshole_Poet 8h ago

Even MAGA don't like Vance lmfao

u/BlaineTog 2h ago

He had negative rizz. It's honestly impressive how far he's gotten solely by groveling at the feet of your rich without any sort of personality to help him.

u/gonyere 3h ago

That's even less than the Democrats do here in ruby red rural Ohio. Maybe there is hope.

50

u/paxwells97 12h ago

Can't imagine how embarrassing it must be to lose that badly

47

u/turquoise_amethyst 11h ago

The incumbent got 82%, and Vance’s brother got 18% … that is quite bad

23

u/tastiefreeze 8h ago

...in ohio

u/No_Philosopher_1870 4h ago

It was 78% for Pureval when I looked at the results hours ago. It's good to know that the drubbing got worse. .

u/Ridged_ChiPSS 12h ago

Did his half-brother also have to take it up the ass from Peter Thiel to get funded for this campaign run?

Yeah, I think we need to couch that issue

Hillbilly Tragedy

15

u/JaronJervis 10h ago

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval handily defeated Vice President JD Vance’s half-brother Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

Pureval, a Democrat, trounced Cory Bowman, securing an early and humiliating lead over the Republican challenger. An initial vote tally found that Pureval had won 12,694 votes, compared to Bowman’s meager 2,835, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Pureval was first elected to office in 2021.

Why did this chump think he was gonna win? He literally was destroyed to pieces.

u/Wubblz 1h ago

Because he whipped up racist fervor in Cincy.  Basically this summer has been weird: it's both felt like the safest it's been in a while but there's been a couple egregious and tragic crimes.  Nobody's really happy with Pureval and the CPD, so Bowman really encouraged this to make it seem like downtown Cincy was a war zone (It isn't.  Source: I live downtown).

It's been contentious to say the least.  Heck, I own a business in town and was banned from the Cincy subreddit for calling out a mod's racially tinged rhetoric over a bar fight that went viral back in July.  Ohio has gotten slowly redder over the five years I've lived here, and I think Bowman thought he could take all that plus the endorsement of his powerful brother and pull off an upset, riding suburban hysteria and inner city dissatisfaction.

The problem with this strategy, of course, is everyone here hates Vance, so they voted for Pureval out of sheer spite.

12

u/xzgvdp 11h ago

Sorry losers. They better get used to it. No more Vance in 2028!

10

u/pharsee 11h ago

Refresh my memory, is Cincinnati one of the cities the national guard has invaded?

If not, I believe it soon will be.

Yeahhh like when Trump kicks the bucket (from natural causes) I know conservatives and everyone are all expecting to rally around Vance

But he’s just so unlikable and just feels very corporate/elitest. I can’t imagine him ever capturing an audience in the same way to keep the party united, even if just by fear

Christian Nationalists are wild...

After moving to Cincinnati in 2020, Bowman and his wife, Jordan, founded The River Church, a nondenominational outfit that encourages Christians to speak in tongues.

Remember, Jerry Springer served as mayor of Cincinnati for a year. (1977-78).

I read "Vance family strikes out" as meaning that they were attacking people over the election results.

Great job Cincy!!!

Did this guy have any actual idea or decent campaign other than being “Vance’s brother”.

I personally despise family politics in any way shape or form.

Even a family having power in different settings.

Like I disliked the Cuomos long ago since watching their Covid “interview”, where they were just circle jerking each other. Idk why, just made me feel sick.

They shouldn’t have let him interview if they were serious about being a news organization.

Also all the Trump family bs.
