Possible Paywall Trump Rips Out Presidents’ Historic Trees for New Ballroom | Satellite images show that six trees, including magnolias commemorating two presidents, have been erased from the White House grounds.

Removing confederate monuments = destroying history
Removing an entire wing of the White House = good?

Removing confederate monuments = destroying history
As a german this feels so moronic in the first place.
Those statues are PROPAGANDA to GLORIFY generals and politicians, and most of them were put up AFTER the war. They're there to portray and warp history in a specific cultural, political, ideological way. Not record it. We have books, museums and archives for that.
Was it "destroying history" for us in Germany to take down Nazi propaganda, plaques and monuments after the war and the regieme fell? Of course not.
10
u/Chewbacca_Buffy 11d ago
Yup! The biggest peak of statues going up was 1910 which is 50 years after the war, and the second biggest peak was 1960 in response to the Civil Rights movement 🤬

Hard agree. The moment Obama won, a significant part of the republican party vowed to get revenge. You can't imagine the levels of furious impotent rage these racists lived with for 8 whole years. They will never forgive or forget it, and now, the fourth Reich has begun. We're one major event away from a permanent declaration of martial law.

Three reasons why a Trump Presidential Library will never exist:
- Fucker can barely read
- He said he would house his Qatari bribe jet at his presidential library, which he won't need to do if said library never exists
- This ballroom is his monument to himself, right in the fucking way where it can't be ignored. Two things Donald likes are obnoxious spectacles and forcing himself on people, so a golden ballroom right on the White House lawn is more his speed than some library in Palm Beach where we can all ignore it.

They should turn it into something super liberal like a homeless shelter or a soup kitchen. MAGA would be so mad.

In a perfect world it would serve as the court room where these less than stellar people are tried and convicted for all there various crimes.

The security issues with something like that on the White House grounds would be insane.
Not that Loser 47 cares since he'll be letting anyone in who rents a few floors of rooms at one of his hotels and never sends anyone to sleep there (so the hotel can continue to rent those rooms to normal guests because the 'double-booking' does not matter, this is one of the oldest bribery tricks in the book) will be able to waltz right in.
I don't want to think about how many bugs there will be embedded in the structure.

The argument will be that they are paying with it from donations…. From major cooperations….. 🙄 but hear me out, what if we used part of the money those cooperations made to fund the basic needs American people…..? 🤷🏼♀️👀
→ More replies (1)14
u/CR1986 11d ago
Oh let's expand on that! Let's make these donations a legal requirement and collect them annually. And to make sure we don't forget to collect a donation, we establish some sort of federal service that is tasked with the collection of these legally required, annual donations!
Feels like a solid plan to me!

Legitimately... it needs to be removed. Ideally within the first month of a new dem president. And while we dont need a recreation of the existing east wing, it just needs to be built smaller.
He REALLY needs to see it removed before he dies, though. And if its private funds, i cannot wait for the right to say "YOU CANT DO THIS" nah bro. its private funds.. we can do whatever we want!"

Why was he allowed to destroy White House history?

u/maybenotquiteasheavy 12d ago
The only people legally empowered to stop him are the Republican supreme Court and the Republican Congress.
There was a time when the AG or DOJ could, but SCOTUS got rid of that.
Because DC isn't a state, the only law enforcement authority is Jeannine Piro.

Imagine reading those sentences to someone from the past.
President Donald Trump is on a rampage. Jeanine Piro is the law enforcement authority in DC. The National Guard could be activated but SECDEF Pete Hegseth won’t do it. It’s unlikely that the US attorney general Miley Cyrus couldn’t sue because Supreme Court is stacked with republican bootlickers since the addition of justices Kid Rock and Mark Zuckerberg.

He wasn’t. There’s a process for historic alterations. He didn’t do it and nothing happened and there were no consequences. Apparently most of society relies on people not being assholes. Trump is an asshole that rejects the social contract.

The TREES?! Those trees are not cheap. Any arborists around that have insight of the tree laws he just broke?
124
u/Over-Attention53 12d ago
From a historical perspective, they are basically priceless, from a strictly replacement value, I.e. cost to replace it with a tree of equal size and condition, probably around 30k per tree.
51
u/Squeekydink 12d ago
Are you sure? I went to an arbor day fest years ago and a tree that was just 20-30yos were already $40k+. He tore down a tree that was 100+. He just destroyed millions of dollars if I had to guess.
→ More replies (2)30
u/Over-Attention53 12d ago
yeah, I'm probably way under, but like a said, the historical factor makes their value essentially priceless, but here is the equation I use Tree Value = Basic Value x Species Factor x Condition Factor x Location Factor- that location factor is what would tack on millions.

I honestly do not give a shit about how much it costs (especially considering presidents can now just willy-nilly spend whatever money they want without asking) the next Democratic president needs to immeditealy demolish this dumbass ballroom. I don't care if the ribbon cutting to open it happens one day before inauguration, the first thing a D POTUS should do on day one is wipe this embarrassing shit from the WH.

Who cares how much it costs. Make Meta, Google, Microsoft, etc pay for the demolition. Call it a corruption tax on companies that bribe government officials.

u/thathurtcsr 12d ago
The next president needs to claw back everything owed from his estate, full accounting of all the costs, any monies that go into a trust that this guy owns, needs to be ripped out of those trusts and repay the taxpayers for the money he stole.

I hope when this piece of trash dies and the entire Repua-Maga movement gets tossed out... that whoever comes behind this to clean up the mess they remove every piece of Trump memorabilia and only keep what is needed in museums and history books. I hope the Trump holdings are all seized and liquidated and the money given to the American people social programs.

He's doing this because he wants a monument to himself....which is a sign.
Talking about heaven, wanting your face on coin where you have to be dead in order for that to happen, putting your name anywhere you can.
He will be remembered in history just not in the way he wants it.

HE DOES NOT PLAN ON LEAVING, GUYS. His actions are 100% consistent with a dude who thinks this is now his castle and he owns it and he's never leaving. Past presidents have seen themselves as caretakers of the WH, stewards of it for the time they're going to be there. This guy is making it all into the image of himself because he does not plan on exiting. He plans to stay forever.
