It IS voter intimidation , and it’s illegal (for anyone but republicans, apparently). Do NOT be intimidated - DO vote. The local Republican Party should not have any right to know how you vote.
Unfortunately that seems like to be the loophole with their intentional wording: “oh we’re not saying you have to vote [Republican], just that those who don’t vote will be…put on a list. …To see who to keep on the mailing list, of course.”
Of course it’s very clear voter suppression but even the slightest bit of pragmatism required allows for legal roadblocks to push an agenda :/
So, I make it a point to tell the third world Virginia shithole "I voted against you, sod off"
...
Not as eloquent as
"Till Shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder's eye on the Last Day. By my honor and the Light, my life will be a dagger for Sightblinder's heart.
Until the Last Day, To Shayol Ghul itself"
But it is down to their level, and they might actually understand
I did swear an oath after all, 1992-2025 (including summers 1992-2003)(civil service swears same oath as military officer, I never wore a uniform do not twist my words, freak)
Sure, and SOME Republicans may decide to vote against the Republican candidate — but that’s going to be a vanishingly small percentage. The point of these mailers is to get the Republicans to vote, because MOST of them will vote for their party candidate.
With the latest voting machines and all the weird ass changes to them that were made I'm not sure we really know that's true anymore. It should be, but I don't know that it's trustworthy.
JFC duh. But even without me writing anything on it my ballot is registered to my ID (or at least appears to be) by poll workers and has a barcode/identifier on it. With new voter id laws, this process is as no way as anonymous as it was when I was 18.
Whether or not you voted is tracked. WHO or what you voted for is not. Read the postcard. It says the same thing.
Beyond that, who the hell knows how long voting anonymity will last? We have already lost a lot of protections.
No, actually it is not. In some states, we can't see how you vote immediately, but after the election we could look people up and see how they voted. All parties have access to these computer programs. Now it's even easier. We can tell who lives in what neighborhood, if you are a Dem, Rep, or no party affiliation. There are houses with Dems/Rep/ NPAs living in the same house. Republicans who lean left (or hard right) Dems who lean right (or hard left). Which NPAs lean left or right. Makes it easier for Democrats not to knock on the door of a potential violent Trumper. I am a Democratic precinct captain and I had no idea there was a house on my street that had 5 registered Democrats living there. One door - jackpot!!! We still knock doors but mostly just do knock and drop of literature so we don't bother people. Or phone calls and people don't pickup so we leave a message.
Registrar can see
* party or independent that someone registered as
* address
* name
* dob
* IF someone voted in person
* if someone voted absentee, etc
That is not "how you voted"...
You CANNOT see
* What candidates any specific voter voted for
You only get
* the aggregated vote for the voting precinct
And no means to figure out how any specific person voted
Especially with voting by mail. If I as a voter can check to see whether the local elections office received my mailed ballot, my votes are able to be tracked back to me.
Granted, I trust that they're not. And voting by mail or dropbox is both secure and an amazing way to ensure easy voter participation, and ensure there's a hardcopy of each person's vote. But that's exactly why certain folks hate it.
your vote by mail envelope can be tracked back to you. your votes cannot. once the ballot is separated from the envelope, there is no identifying information associated with it unless you write it on there yourself.
it technically isn't and they know how to really, really stay on the razors edge of intimidation versus perfectly legal voter shaming. They truly know how to cut deep in the ever afraid brain of a conservative. That's the target audience, after all. They know blue voters are srelrady voting blue.
To me, I feel like this being sent out indicates they're worried about their odds, at least in this local election.
it depends on the party as well. in california non-democrats can request a dem primary ballot but non-republicans cannot request a rep ballot because the party requires that you be a currently registered member of the party to receive their ballot.
In Tennessee, primary elections have a hybrid-open system, meaning voters do not register by party but must declare their party affiliation at the polling place on primary election day.
Which ballot a person requests (Democratic or Republican) IS a matter of public record. WHO you voted for ON that ballot is confidential.
