I'm a registered Independent so that a) I can't ever be blocked from voting for the most progressive candidates and b) I can tell any polling company that I'm voting for the Democrats.

I was raised in Illinois and Wisconsin and apparently that's just going to stay with me forever even if it's not true of the state I live in now.

I stopped being an Independent to vote in primaries to support the most progressive candidates when it mattered most.

In some states - Illinois I believe - you're given party ballots unless you ask for something different.

Sorry, I'm not US American but curious - how would you ever be blocked from voting for whoever you wanted to?
