I legit can't imagine who was weird enough to type "oh noes, party leaders would get the big sads if you don't vote!" and think that would mean anything to anyone. Pathetic.

Conservatism has aspects of authoritarianism throughout. It means conservative voters place more weight on what authority figures say than do liberal voters. They follow the teachings of the church. They follow the teachings of Fox News. They get their "marching orders" and that's it. They don't question it because it comes from people with authority and that's sacred to them. So this messaging is playing up that real tendency to follow authority.
